Unless they're going with the Detective Pikachu model where all of the dragons are given live action adaptations that are heinous, terrifying, and incredibly loyal to source media, they honestly shouldn't bother
Since I'm betting they are going to cast to show how woke they are I say no just don't. I'm tired of film makers catering to stupidity, and seeing a black viking just going to be annoying especially for a main character. If they decide to try to stay true to the original though then sure give it a go.
I already saw an article that Nico Parker would be playing Astrid. Instead of blonde and blue eyes she's a lightskin black girl with brown eyes and brown curls. I as a black girl find the whole inclusion thing nice, but considering they're on thin ice and have to watch every step they make to keep their fanbase of 13 years happy, I think this is just a really stupid decision. Vikings are white, simple as that. Just stick to how the actual characters look 🤦♀️
@nandabarendrecht8630 Yeah I love it when we see inclusive, but this changing characters from their original isn't really inclusive. They should just take some stories from African countries and make them into movies. I bet there are a few good histories or legends that will make great movies.
I hate race swapping and no, it's not because I'm a racist bigot who screams how everything is "woke" nowadays. It's because of how incredibly lazy it is as a form of representation. I think if you're going to represent a certain group, it should be with original characters. Changing the race of pre-existing characters is lazy and an insult. It doesn’t feel like the group they're trying to represent can even "claim" the character as their own. People who grew up with this series are always going to associate Astrid as a White girl with blonde hair. This new version will be forgotten. She won't be seen as the "real" Astrid. That's not representation, not really. Make an original character who's a minority. Make them just as interesting and important and memorable as any other character. Enough with the laziness.
If they take their time with it and do something special, I'm down. They really can't be trying to replace the movies we got though. We had a great begining and end.

The originals where the best, you cannot remake them, especially if it’s going into the hands of Disney, you know it’s gonna be bad based on past mistakes they made.
why??????????????? the original is only ten years old and has a huge fan base. they could just put it back in theaters and, due to the non-existent production costs, would probably make a lot more profit than with a lazy and extremely expensive remake that will probably lecture the viewer for two hours with lazily packaged modern morals. it's not even a typical disney like "doesn't matter if we destroy our heritage. at least we can squeeze out a few more pennies before the ship sinks." I mean even economically, it's probably just a stupid decision
@@Paranormallights oh right I'm so sorry I mean this absolutely changes the whole point. being three years older than the rounded age absolutely justifies trashing a beloved movie franchise and replacing it with a live action cash grab
1. It is racist to say that you can only empathize with a person if they are dark-skinned, because that is how you treat people based on their skin color, she just does 't fit in the role 2. When it comes to culture, there were simply no dark-skinned Vikings, thereby ruthlessly destroying culture and taking it away from people. In the VIANA live-action film adaptation, the main actress doesn't know that you can "put yourself in it better" because culturally it wasn't like that, which is completely fine. It's just an insult to the long-standing fans of the films
Also remember there are more then 3 books of how to train your dragon. What if the stopped harry Potter at book 3. Think about that. How to train your dragon has 12 books. . Cowell has published twelve full novels of how to train your dragon. Harry Potter has only 7 books.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! I don’t know how to feel about black washing characters. Part of me wants to hate it if a character is an established character meaning who they are has been determined by the original source. And there is an exception to this. Example: April O’Neil from the recent tmnt movie. Her character was black and I first thought that were just being woke but then I found out April O’Neil’s skin is never set in stone she is depicted as both African American and white. Actually the writers of the TMNT comic series intended for April to be Asian. Look I am open to casting different characters in f races. But so far not many studios have claimed they casted different options of races for men or women for a role. And movies studios like Disney may claim this, but Disney is so woke with their remakes I don’t believe them anymore.
I still have hope this will be good sins the original director and writer of the original classic trilogy idc about the actress for Astrid but I think she will do good because I liked her in the live action dumbo movie and even if it ends up terrible I will still love this franchise including the third film sins that’s one my favourite ❤️ 👍
Ugh yeah but she just doesn't FIT😫 i kind of could live with Ariel changing skin tone but Astrid, a viking, black? There were no black vikings..we shouldn't change the original characters that much in appearance, no white actor should play a black character and the same goes for the other way around...no changing pleeeeaasee Come on, hate on me🫠
Pertinentally a ruse to rile everyone and get people talking, build traction, views. A risk to be sure but better a hype that might not be than a few fans calmly stateing worry of how good it will be in the current movie world. After all dispite my countrys idocies of it and horrifying screw up of the premiere of Dragons 3, Dragons are loved. We would be passionate about this. I wouldn't put it past DreamWorks to make it look like conformity then show us the gold. I hope at least. ☹️?
The amount of salt in the comments is hilarious. Y'all really have no happiness in life, do you? The live-action remakes aren't meant to replace the original. No one is taking them away from you, Children. So calm down. You're allowed to like the live-action AND the original, for different reasons. Like, Dumbo. I like the original because of the simple story, it's barely an hour long - short movie. The live-action was directed by Tim Burton (a name I can trust in movies), it had Danny Devito (a legend), and was a lot longer than the original. It had backstory and was super dark in parts, like when they basically murdered hundreds of people in the big fire scene. The only thing I didn't like was the butchering of Baby Mine, but I can overlook that. It's just a song. I am hopeful for the remake since I believe the people involved will make it a passion project. They understand what their expectations are. Plus, if the movie is a success, DreamWorks will probably do more live-action remakes, and I really want to, one day, see The Road to El Dorado back in theaters.
It's not the 'take it away from them' that they are fearing. It's the new version being absolutely shit like most films in the last five years have been. Surely you can see the imagination, quality, style and magic of films is not like it use to be. Remakes or not. Also, most films are remakes nowadays. You have to admit that's killing creative invention. The original Dragons inspired me to not die. That is a BIG deal. Something no modern film can inspire anyone because most have no heart. We are not fearing the taking away of Dragons. It's being made to potentially witness another great production house crumble. Wake up. Films are dying. With it a magical element of modern life that's shaped and inspired generations. That is what we movie lovers are fearing. Calling us children is purely unnecessary and ignorant. Stories have power. Watching that power be butchered is hard. Show a little kindness.
No one is afraid of it replacing the original. We don't want to see this live action version spit on its animated counterpart. The third movie already insulted the first two movies and everything they stood for, so yes, I'm skeptical of this live action movie.

why??????????????? the original is only ten years old and has a huge fan base. they could just put it back in theaters and, due to the non-existent production costs, would probably make a lot more profit than with a lazy and extremely expensive remake that will probably lecture the viewer for two hours with lazily packaged modern morals. it's not even a typical disney like "doesn't matter if we destroy our heritage. at least we can squeeze out a few more pennies before the ship sinks." I mean even economically, it's probably just a stupid decision
13 years
@@Paranormallights oh right I'm so sorry I mean this absolutely changes the whole point. being three years older than the rounded age absolutely justifies trashing a beloved movie franchise and replacing it with a live action cash grab
@@Paranormallights Fair point but the statement remains true
@@profess_re 😂 Good on ya!
Disney? Its dreamwork who made the movies😂
We need this please make more live action and cartoons me and the wife and the kids. Love it.
I like the idea but they need someone else to play astrid
Hilariously impossible, and curious but I'll say better it was the animated trilogy
Glad I know this is going to exist so I can avoid it. I’ll just continue to enjoy the original.
0:46 “children book” yeah I can tell her I am you know blood spilling for a dragon is for kids
They’ve done it again. Casted a black actress for a role based on the Vikings which were all white at the time
As long as this ain't Disney, Imma be hopeful
No way
They better not make toothless ugly like they did to sonic!
At least people will have the option to choose between watching the good version and the not so good version.
There were no black vikings..we shouldn't change the original characters that much in appearance, no white actor should play a black character and the same goes for the other way around...no changing pleeeeaasee
Come on, hate on me🫠
Pertinentally a ruse to rile everyone and get people talking, build traction, views.
This will either be the best thing ever or the worst
I really wish they could just make a animated httyd instead :/
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im tired of all theese remakes, but i would like to see live action toothless. But i still think it too fast. Mby in 10-20 years?
is this real or rumor
its real
i think if they have mason thames in it they wont butcher it
The amount of salt in the comments is hilarious.
PLEASE DONT MAKE IT REALSTIC !! DONT RUIN IT !!
This franchise is a LEGEND and as epic as LION KING
this will be fk up for sure if it become live action version, Lion King and Tom & Jerry was fk up by live action version
Just Ruin if want to Ruin another epic franchise just for money
Here we go again, another live action we dont need but somehow it will do better bc real fans cant control government bots from watching and giving them reasons to make more. They’re gonna change the plot or stick to same thing doesn’t matter let that masterpiece the way it was as animated we dont need live action
