- In the 1980’s, more than one million South Asians from Cambodia - victims of war and genocide - were granted asylum and resettled in the United States. It was the largest refugee resettlement program in our country’s history. Many of the Cambodians came to Bronx, New York, at a time when most people were leaving the borough. Their history and experience is documented in Eric Tang’s “Unsettled: Cambodian Refugees in New York City Hyperghetto.” Asian American Life Host and Correspondent Ernabel Demillo shares their untold stories and how this hidden community is being rediscovered.

Long beach, ca has a cambodian community.... i was interested where the rest settled.... some ny, virginia and massachusetts
My mom and uncle were one of those Cambodians who settled in the bronx.

The bronx was crazy in the 80s and 90s. Cambodians been through some ruff ghettos in New York, and New York state. Queen, Bronx, Flatbush, Syracuse, and Utica. Some tuff as ghetto in NewYork

I and my family landed in Boston, MA 1982 then we moved to Long Beach, CA in 1989 and now I'm living in Lynn, MA.

Millions of Cambodians were slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge we came for better life. We was thrown in the hood and made gangs to protect ourselves.
Black people never accepted anyone. They were negative people back in the 80's 90's. They were racist towards my family.
It's all started when the French invaded and colonized Vietnam. This led to the Vietnam War and the US continued the war, which spread to Cambodia and Laos.
Then VN invade Lao next cambodia we both are under VN rules.

I’ve notice that Khmer always gets the back hand if things it ducks that’s why it was hard for us to strive because the hatred and discriminative society smh but now we are strivingyesssss amen we need Khmer pride🇰🇭
They just need to gather more, get dressed up, and throw parties at these social clubs. It's extremely fun over in NY. Sad that they cut off 24-hour places not everything is Mob-related or bad. The pandemic also changed a lot for businesses.
