Absolutely incredible film, first saw this Christmas 2019 last month on Netflix while normal tv played the same damn repeats . I am glad I did. Donnie as IP Man is incredible... I'm assuming the guy behind the ref is a translator but they basically just said the same thing in the same language. Funny
It's an interesting science to really dive deep into, people who don't know about boxing would probably think that wearing the gloves makes the punches hurt less due to padding, but in reality a boxer with gloves on can safely hit much harder than bare fists without risk of breaking your hands.

When this movie got produced I was in Shanghai. The referee is Antony Wood a close friend of mine. He is doing Praying Mantis and I had my Wingchun school for five years l in Shanghai from 2009 to 2014i..was a great time at the set.

I've seen boxers with more life in their eyes than Ip man and the fight was called off.

he got up quite quickly after the second knockdown and he does understand the judge’s instructions so i think even in modern times the fight would continue. by the way this is a very special fight. look at the size difference of the two, its like a heavyweight vs lightweight. also ip man is born in 1893, so in the movie he shoud at least be 45 years old. thats far older than most competitive fighters today.
