Being that you posted this online 6 years ago, you'll probably never see this comment, but being that I just discovered you (and Rachael) two days ago after hearing a replay of the interview you did with NPR's "Fresh Air", I felt a need to write this. I'm a 1977 graduate of Boston's Berklee College of Music and have written a number of songs myself over the years. I was told by a 30-something singer several years back that my music sounds like it came out of the 1940s or 50s... something which I took as a compliment being that songs of those days still had interesting chord progressions, lyrics which told a story, and melodies which were truly melodious. I just want to tell you and Rachael how much I LOVE what you're doing these days. Your songs are relaxing, very interesting to listen to, and have wonderful melodies and harmonies. My only problem, Vilray, is trying to decide what it is I like the most about your music.... the wonderful mellow tone quality of your guitars (even the solid body), your fantastic whistling ability, or the totally laid-back sound you achieve when you sing. All of the aforementioned are great, so there's really no need for me to select just one favorite. Please continue to provide your unique sound to the music world. It's nice to see that there are still some musicians left who fight the recent trend to perform songs which contain few chords, have boring or nearly non-existent melodies, and lyrics which are far from creative in the stories they supposedly tell. I'm only sorry that it's taken me so long to find you and discover all the good things your music has to offer. Best wishes for future success... you deserve it!
My dad played jazz tunes like that when I was a little boy.. I'm In My mid 50's..thanks so much for this...it brought back fond memories of him.You are a great treasure in this world today.
Most Excellent Vilray…Your seemingly effortless chord changes are a joy to watch. And you have such a great vocals to match it. Your execution and delivery of these songs is truly wonderful. Love it. It’s my new benchmark to aspire to. Thanks for sharing man. John
This tune is from Top Hat, one of my favorite movies starring Fred and Ginger. Your rendition is absolutely lovely! Thanks for performing this beautiful tune.
Don't change - love everything you do. But would you consider doing a more recent number like Charles Brown with Johnny Moore's 3 Aces or on his own from the the '40s? Thanks -
this man is too underrated
Not rated at all ..actually .
I'm so jealous of your neighbours
Amen, this is so brilliant.
Man just imagine waking up and hearing this being okay outside
