Jesse C.Moore Jr. - Black UCI Alumni Oral History Project

Jesse C. Moore Jr has prayed many prayers for others that God will bless people with things they never ask for. I say that because that’s what happen to me. A guy living in Detroit, Michigan working at Cadillac Motors straight out of high school never dreamed of going to college. I sat on a hill looking down on the area I worked in and said there is got to be something better for me. After taking a trip to visit my father in California I decided to come back and go to school. I attended Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, Ca. Besides attending school I was a walk on baseball player. I was blessed to make the team, play and recognized as: Most Inspirational my Freshman year and Team Captain my Sophomore year. An alumni of Palomar Junior College Scott Thayer was playing baseball at UC Irvine and recommended that I consider attending because at the time they hardly had any black ball players. I was invited to UC Irvine by assistant coach Dave Lyons. I ended up making the team and opening day I was starting. UCI open my eyes to so much from living in Newport Beach for two years, adjusting to a different demographic, traveling throughout Southern California to building the confidence for independent living without struggling one day. I’m very grateful for the opportunity, my experiences and appreciate the great alumni I have met. I see the need to give back to students so they can have a great experience. As co founder of the Black Alumni Chapter I have met like minded people with the same passion and commitment. It’s important we build something special that will impact future UCI Students and support faculty and staff.
