    I recently watched Footloose and Darkman on 4K.
    Thank you Fuzz.

    A lot of the audio stuff is generally catered to audiophiles with home theatres..where as most of us have a soundbar and maybe a pair of rears that generally outperform our livng rooms haha
    If i go anymore than 20% volume on my Samsung soundbar/sub/rears I get a knock on the door from my neighbours lol

    Personally, I like grain. Whatever reflects the original film, I’m down with that.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I don't have a problem with grain. It gives a certain warmth to the image. And that's the thing about 4K... it tends to get us a lot closer to the original theatrical presentation and director's intent than we could get with blu-ray (particularly for older movies shot on film), in part because of the wider color gamut and HDR, which is not present on blu-rays. A standard blu-ray has limitations that ultimately alter the presentation from what was originally shown in theaters. The 4K format has rectified many of those issues.

    No need to apologize about your audio setup. A lot of that extra stuff is artificial. I watch most movies using simple but quality headphones. I feel that keeps me dialed into the audio and avoids extraneous noise.

      Other addressing me as “dude” your reply is reasonable. You do have a point. But I’ve learned that the “best” isn’t always the best. Sometimes assumptions are made. As an example, I saw Oppenheimer in the absolute top tier cinema presentation. Yet when I watched it at home, it was better. That made me rethink what is important. Sometimes “best” is a concept in our mind. And by the way, I NEVER watch movies on a laptop. If you assume that about me, I’ll assume you watch all movies on a cell phone. Take that!. Ha ha. 😂

    Happy to see that you enjoyed Darkman! It's definitely a must own 4K disc from Scream Factory.

    So for starters - I know you always “do you” my friend…
    I love Atmos but it seems like only 40% of films put out have it and of that maybe 15% that really do it right. When done right - it’s a truly amazing immersive experience. And that’s also if you have the right set up on your end.
    That said - I think I need to give Southern Comfort a rewatch. I went into it expecting something Walter Hill wasn’t trying to do. I’m newer to his work having only seen “The Warriors.” Which I thoroughly did enjoy.
    Darkman - agree with your sentiments.
    The Last Castle I need to check out…
    Footloose - again…you nailed it. I did a side by side comparison vid that really showed IMO the bluray to be better looking to my eyes than the 4k.
    Great inaugural 4k Takeaways vid! I always love comparing my thoughts to similar collectors such as you.
    Looking forward to you continuing!

      I've checked out Atmos at the local AMC theater a few times, in like their high-end Dolby Cinema theaters. And it does sound pretty damn amazing in a theater setting like that. I could see myself eventually upgrading my receiver and speakers at some point to at least have a basic Atmos setup.
      As for Walter Hill movies, check out The Driver as well. Studiocanal put out a 4K that's pretty solid. I really liked it. I think Warriors is probably number 3 for me right now, in terms of favorite Walter Hill. For that matter, I may have to do a Walter Hill Top 10 list at some point.
      Thanks for watching and weighing in as always my friend! And yeah definitely check out Last Castle. If you like prison films, you'll probably dig it.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz - I do love my Atmos set up. It’s not an actual “theater” obviously but I did all the research, got the right receiver for the job (allows for up to a 11.4 set up) and even made sure I positioned all the speakers correctly. When I get a great Atmos film…I can tell it.
      I’ll check out “The Driver” at some point as well as “The Last Castle.”
      Appreciate you as always doing what you do here. I truly love your content - solid job!

    4k review videos have become very important to me, especially when it comes down to whether or not to double dip. I have watched a lot of different 4k review channels and I do have my favorite. Searching for Physical Media. With that said, you did very well and I respect your opinion. You have definitely earned my trust. You know what your looking for, so if it's good enough for Fuzz, its good enough for me. Looking forward to more of these video in the near future. Btw. I am very interested in Southern comfort and Footloose. I to like my eighties cheese. 😂😂.

      Thank you so much Dwayne! I really appreciate that. Yeah James is one of my favorites for 4K reviews as well. He does a very thorough job, and I love his native screen shots. He's got a great channel.
      I put a link in the video description for the Vinegar Syndrome box set of Southern Comfort, if you're interested. And I think my next 4K Takeaway is going to be coming fairly soon (within a couple weeks), since I will be giving my thoughts on the James Cameron films once they come out (I'm hoping to get my Takeaway video out as soon as I can once they're released... i.e. within that same week of March 12). I'll be watching them right away so as to not take too long putting out the video. I'm very excited for those titles.
      Thanks for watching, my friend!

    Have not picked up Footloose yet. Saw many reviews of it and have held off. But, considering the only release I own is DVD, this will be an upgrade regardless. I still want the steelbook of it as I really like that design.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah if you only have it on DVD, I'd recommend picking up the 4K release, since you get both the previous blu ray and a new 4K. So regardless of which version you prefer (blu-ray or 4K), you'll be covered either way. This was a tough one to review, because some aspects look better in 4K, while other aspects look better on blu-ray.

  • @screamingeekmedia

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah that's the only downside with Scream Factory titles -- they tend to be a little pricey. I often wait for the price to come down a bit before I pick up their titles.

    I am one of those that thinks audio can greatly enhance the fun of a movie. My favorite example of this is Brightburn with Atmos. In my setup main listening position eyes are 6' away from 65" OLED and have 7 ear level speakers, 3 subwoofers, and 4 ceiling speakers capable of 105db at 5Hz. First time my uncle watched that movie was on my setup. He came away loving the movie and thinking it was the creepiest movie he has seen in a long time. He couldn't stop talking about it for weeks. He got it and went to watch and show his wife at his house. He has just a basic soundbar. She feel asleep and he found it boring.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like an awesome setup! I bet it does sound amazing. And I don't disagree at all that audio can significantly enhance a film. I've been in the Dolby Cinema room at my local AMC theater and seen a few films with the Atmos setup, and it indeed does sound damn good! I don't get to use my 5.1 system as much as I'd like, but when I do, I occasionally find myself wondering how much cooler it would sound if I had some overheads. Someday I may well upgrade. I can tell you this though... I always enjoy the Atmos and DTS-X mixes more on my system than just standard 5.1 mixes. they always have more punch and beef to them.

  • @frommatorav1
    @frommatorav1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I do like the upgraded sound on most 4ks and can tell the difference on my 5.1 setup. My L C R speakers are high quality and in their correct position but my surround speakers are a little jank right now because of the living room configuration. My wife won't let me run speaker wire along the floor or doorway, so for me to position it correctly, I'd have to do a rewire through the attic. I haven't felt confident or inspired enough to attempt that yet. My receiver is Atmos and DTS X capable, so I do plan on adding a couple of height speakers at some point, too. In my room, they would be easier to install than the surround speakers. After stating all that, I find myself using headphones a lot because if I don't, my wife can't sleep because it's too loud at night. I mostly watch movies after she goes to bed because I'm a night owl and she isn't.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I totally agree with you about being able to hear the difference between different mixes on a 5.1 surround setup. I've noticed the same thing. Even though I don't have Atmos height channels, from what I undersand, object-based surround sound mixes like Atmos or DTS-X tend to just adapt to whatever configuration you're using (even without the height channels). So I have found that I most definitely prefer Atmos or DTS-X mixes wherever available. They have a lot more punch and presence to them, and I can totally hear the difference on my 5.1 setup. In fact, I've found I actually prefer DTS-X mixes over Atmos mixes. All the DTS-X mixes I've heard are outstanding... Universal does a lot with DTS-X (like the Fast and Furious movies, for example... they sound ridiculously good in DTS-X!).
      And I also can completely relate to the headphones thing. That's when I watch a lot of movies too... at night, after my wife and son are asleep. So I don't always get to use my 5.1 system as often as I'd like.
      Thanks for watching and weighing in!

      I don't think I've seen that one out there on 4K anywhere, but I'm not totally sure about that. It's possible there could be a release in Germany or Uk or something that I'm not aware of. But I don't think there's a U.S. release on 4k... at least, not yet.

    The last castle is unironically on my to-buy list as I love a good prison movie.
    I also watch a lot of my movies using headphones because the noise of the movie would otherwise disturb my neighbors… I do plan on upgrading my headset but I really don’t know which one to go to! Currently I use the Sony pulse 3d headset which isn’t really going the job for me with both games and movies.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! I too love a good prison movie. I've always had a lot of fun with those kind of films, and The Last Castle is a great addition to the genre. You'll probably really enjoy it too if you like prison movies.
      As for headphones, the Beats Studio Pro headphones I'm using are awesome for movies. Really meaty, rich and full-sounding. Very spatial and immersive for headphones. But they also have a pretty hefty price tag (although they appear to be on sale right now for a really good price... $200 now, normally they're like $350 I think). These are the ones I'm using: www.amazon.com/Beats-Studio-Pro-Personalized-Compatibility/dp/B0C8PR4W22

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Thank you for your headphone recommendation! Somehow this headphone is extremely expensive here costing around 350 euros, and the amazon link you sent me sadly doesn’t ship to the Netherlands.

    Thank you for reviewing The Last Castle! For me, one of the most underrated movies...ever. Yes, I said ever. Everyone does a great acting job, yes, including activist Mark Ruffalo. Redford shows what a character with integrity can look like. Great show!

      Thanks for watching! Yeah I agree... great cast. And even I can stomach Mark Ruffalo in this one Lol! (I'm not the biggest fan of his either) -- But yes, a great movie. @TheOriginalFuzz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheKingofLimbs44 Yeah definitely check out Brubaker when you can then. It has a little different tone than Last Castle, but it's a very cool prison film -- dealing with prison corruption, but from a little different angle. Early Morgan Freeman appearance as well. And Yaphet Kotto is in it too (who I've always really liked). Great film! You may have to hunt down an import blu-ray... not sure if there's a U.S. edition still in print or not. I have a Japanese import blu-ray of it that I think I bought on eBay. But Amazon may have some international versions.
