    I think that so many people don't trust Bailey ( or some dealers as they just repair it how Bailey tell them to, again with problems) anymore to do the job so it leads the owners to do the job themselves, sealing it up but maybe not cutting the floor out.
    Bailey would have a big financial problem I think if everyone did go down the warrenty path.
    Great videos been watching them for over the last couple years since I got my first van, nd it was one of your vids that I learned how to reset the water heater by unplugging the coffin shaped plug so thank you for that.
    have now got a van that has alde heating and wow what a difference to the blownair.
    In the comments below someone asked could you not make a video of repairs to the van where you replied you only have an iPhone, to be pretty honest I think that would be ok (was long as the sound is clear) as and I reckon you would get lots of views from it......theres only one video on TH-cam that shows the floor being repaired on a Bailey alter and that is only the inside and does not go into the edges .
    Thanks again for the great vids and the education that you gave us on vans

    I had exactly the same on my Bailey converted outside broadcast unit (I think mine may have been the Alu-Tech protorptype as it has no windows, other than front). I stripped it all back and added 9 mm ply alround the floor, mastic taped around the skirts and bitchamined the wood on both sides. Useful video, thanks.

    Nice video, we're thinking of potentially a bailey will bear it in mind, get myself a meter.

    Two 2008s baileys I looked at had rotted floor along sides on rear half. Looked like your example from underneath. This quick visual is good place to start, if floor is good then its worth spending more time giving interior a good going over.

    My friend had the exact same model and the same problem. I checked it with my own professional meter. The problem was a leaking roof joint strip. Pretty common on these. They are designed to fail. The area of damp will depend on how the van is parked eg how level the ground is. My friends was slightly leaning to the off side while in storage so gave the same kind of readings. Damp under vinyl takes months to dry out. Readings are slowly dropping but are still at 30% at the highest. I've had a new Bailey. Never again.

    Glad I found your channel as I have an 18 month old Bailey D4-4 which is beginning to show this exact problem. I ran a hose over the lower rail and it was peeing from the top, past the cowelling down the L shape which goes under the lip which connects to the floor - thus, awash with water. Yes, STILL a design floor but I think I can solve it myself by taking the outer rail off and putting some real quality sealant on the top joint. Gonna do that all around the van as we haven't even been out in the darned thing yet due to problems with my car. Just about to and this happens - Oh, and mustn't forget that the assembly chimps in the Bailey factory skimoed on the sealant they used on the back of the shower panel so it has come away already and also over tightened one of the screws on the Shower surround so it comes away from the wall. My dealer was very offish and as per what me and the Mrs has had to do when dealing with any tradesemen, we're going to make the repairs ourselves as we know we'll do it properly. The Alutech would probably get over the problem if they extended the overlap from the side panels over the sides of the floor panel. But that would be too easy. We are pretty furious as we paid £22k for this and have all the gear now. We will prevail though. Thanks for posting - love to see a fix - who knows, maybe I'll do one!

    Hi, can you please confirm that in your video when your checking the interior your checking it through the vinyl, as it looks like and sounds like glass fibre.

    how do you replace the rotten wood

  • @keithbowers5548
    @keithbowers5548 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    2021 Grande SE. Wall sides don’t go far enough below the floor edge. The lower side rails are not adequately sealed and allow water to get in, down to the wall edge which is flush to the floor. Water gets into the floor edge and soaks inward. I have removed all the rails and inner rail put building damp proof strip between the wall and the floor so it can’t get to the wood. Re-sealed and refitted the side trims, problem solved. The initial problem on your video appears to be roof strap or “T” bar as you have called it. 10:00

    Everyone I spoke to that had a Bailey caravan has had water ingress issues. So have I with mine. It looks like I will need to replace rear quarter floor panels. My van is a 2016 alutech model, and whilst at present the interior is still looking as good as new. Would I buy another Bailey caravan? Never, and we paid £1800 for it at 1 year old. Have I been robbed along with all those people that also owned up to problems with their vans, I’m pretty sure some that answered my question saying they never had an issue were either lucky or didn’t want to say the issues they had. Ask me if I would buy another Bailey. Never ever again. I’m so fed up with issues with these I,M seriously considering giving up caravanning. Years ago we had a swift Cornish 2 hearth van and it was 10 years old when we bought it, dry as a bone up to the day we traded it in for this pile of shite I now own. 😢

      It’s horrible to hear this, it shouldn’t be the caravan that is making you think of giving up , if there was some promise of things being better or at least some acknowledgment of a problem it would be a start, and not this burying their heads in the sand mentality..

    This is a cheap fix for Bailey if they would extend the walls below the floor. I don't understand why they haven't done this. The government now has a minister for commen sense I think Bailey needs one

    • @atlanticcaravansUK
      @atlanticcaravansUK 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s the same with Swift and leaking past the cant rail into the van, if the roof panels overlapped the side panels water couldn’t get in. I can only think there must be some technical reason for it.

    • @steamdrivenandy6880
      @steamdrivenandy6880 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could be as simple as the GRP panels and the machines that handle it can't be any wider and therefore the van walls can't be any taller or extend any lower. If you ran the whole width of the side past the floor edge there'd be nothing below to support the side and it would be bolted from the side into the edge of the floor, so probably not nearly as good structurally. If you just had the edge of the exterior GRP panel over sail the floor edge and on a bit further, it is very thin and would be prone to damage.

    I can't believe that they build caravans with wooden floors exposed to the road surface, water spray must damage them

    • @atlanticcaravansUK
      @atlanticcaravansUK 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, no, it doesn’t, but you’d think it would. The damage we see is from water running down the side of the van and being channeled onto the floor.

    The quality of these caravans are appalling, I think they should have to have longer guarantees for a start but in this day and age these stupid water ingress issues shouldn’t be happening , I was looking at buying a caravan but the amount of issues with damp I see on various caravans has put me off totally.

    Don’t understand that competent caravan and camper builders can’t design a jointing system that doesn’t leak when new or 30 years old. Have they never talked to a boat builder, leaks are pretty detrimental in their situation, have a overlapping roof, double seal window and panel joints, solid mechanical connections instead of simple little screws and make all fittings and fixtures stainless. Not that difficult !!!
