Kelebogile Sebole you’re really not gonna get an accurate idea of the cost of living from knowing mine because it all depends on where you’re placed; how far you are from everything else and your lifestyle. You really just need to pray you’re as lucky as I was. My school is 300m from my place. So I don’t spend any money on transport but you have K2 whose school is in a different city and she spends 200 000 getting to and back every month.
Thank you Palesa. This was really informative, especially coming from a fellow south african. I'm currently waiting to hear about my placement for the spring intake. So it's good to know before coming.
I think this might help people in other countries trying to send money home. I live in Germany and I use world remit to send money to my south African account. it's very convenient. You dont need alot of stuff, you literally just login and link your diaspora account ( Asian countries included) and choose your SA bank. There's options to send straight into your account or at a money collection point. The charges are very reasonable. And you can link more than 1 SA account.
This is a much needed video, thanks Palesa. I have few questions regarding your methodology of sending money to S.A. QUESTION 1) I saw that you have two KEB bank books, one for the Easy-One account. What is the other KEB bank book ( the dark green book) for? QUESTION 2) Did you have to open 2 KEB accounts. For example, a general account (savings, cheque etc...) and Easy-One account? QUESTION 3) How much are the charges (rough estimate, e.g for sending 1 mill won) for sending money from NH directly Easy-one account ? I heard that doing the transaction is much cheaper if done online compared to going to the branch. Thank you. Please forgive me If I overloaded you with too many questions.
1. The other book is just for my normal account if I give someone that account number the money goes in that card (Korean card) you don't really use the book unless you maybe lose your card. 2. Yes, It's two accounts.. ( different account numbers too) the other account has a card. Your easy one is a one way transaction you can only send money to SA so there's no card. 3. KEB ( South Korea) is R191 for every transaction no matter how much you're sending. Then your South African account will also charge you R100-R150 I send on my phone , I don't know if it's cheaper that way or going to the branch because I have never sent via the branch.
Hi Palesa I'm like two years late on this video but thanks so much for this. It's really helpful. I just wanted to ask you though if you could do a price comparison between NH and KEB when it comes to sending money to SA from Korea. Like I know with NH the money's converted into USD first and then to Rands which is expensive as heck. But if I send money from my NH account to my KEB account and then to my South African account, don't I also get charged for all of that?
Use Crypto - you won’t pay all the currency conversion fees. Save in USDC and you won’t be subject to the ZAR debasement. Don’t leave your savings on the exchange though - self custody on a LEDGER.
I’m literally planning my Korea move through your channel...thank you so much for all that you share ❤️

I went and opened a KEB account yesterday after watching this video. Thanks a ton.
I use the same banks. KEB is really efficient. I would love to do a storytime extending on why KEB is better than NH.
How much is your average cost of living based on TaLK salary? Like how much do you spend on utilities, transport and food?

Kelebogile Sebole but it is more than enough considering there aren’t any expenses really other than to feed and clothe yourself.
