Absolutely thrilled to see Raising Robots make it onto the top 10 games of 2023 list! Such an honor for us, especially since it just hit stores this December. Thanks for the recognition!
As of now this would be my top 10 for 2023. 1) Age of Innovation - Terra Mystica has been my favourite game for about a decade and this has managed to dethrone it (I will still happily play TM any time, though, it's definitely not leaving my collection - however Gaia Project is definitely leaving as this one brings the bits I enjoyed from GP without bringing along any of the detractors). 2) Nucleum - I don't think I need to elaborate on this one as you guys covered it. 3) Earth - don't think I need to elaborate here either, lol 4) Coffee Rush - this has become one of my go-to end of the game night games, it feels a lot like Overcooked in boardgame form, except you play as baristas putting together drinks trying to serve customers before their order drop below your board. It's adorable and it's fun. 5) Apiary - another one you've already elaborated on 6) Pirates of Maracaibo - this one replaces Maracaibo for me, I get to have the same experience in a shorter time, there's nothing I personally feel is missing from Maracaibo, and there's less of a rushing problem in this one. 7) Books of Time - It's a gimmick that really works, building those books, turning those pages. 8) Bonsai - another lighter one that's become a go-to end of the night game for me. I enjoy the visuals of building the bonsai trees, chasing the scoring goals and figuring out when to cash in on them. 9) Djinn - I just enjoy its whimsy, I like the path movement mechanism, adding second actions to certain spots, trying to weigh going your more optimal paths versus chasing the djinns you need for set collection bonuses. 10) Kutná Hora - could definitely climb with further plays, the economy in this one is really interesting.
I just subscribed to your channel because of how much my tastes align with Ryan's. I would definitely take game recommendations from him! Everyone's lists were really good, though. Some gems across each of them and stuff for me to research and learn more about. My Top Ten of 2023 is: 10. Darwin's Journey 9. Amritsar: The Golden Temple 8. Sky Team 7. Expeditions 6. Barcelona 5. 3 Ring Circus 4. Scholars of the South Tigris 3. Voidfall 2. Nucleum 1. The White Castle Honourable Mention to For Northwood!
Many great games! And some diversity. More than half of my top 10 of 2023 weren't even mentioned. My #1 Ceres isn't that well known yet and might or might not be easily available in the US yet. My #2 is Apiary, I can only agree with what you said about it. My #3 is Imperial Miners. Such a great filler game that works well with all player counts (1-5). Quick game that also provides lots of challenges for a heavy euro gamer like me. #4 Earth, #5 Expeditions #6 Terraforming Mars the Dice Game #7 Legacy of Yu #8 Evacuation #9 Battle Card #10 Moon
Thank you so much for all the kind words about Apiary! I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying it - it's so gratifying that the "fun" is coming through so strongly!
Great choices MvM. 2023 was a fantastic year and personally my favorite year for new releases within the last 5 years. Nucleum, The White Castle, Darwin’s Journey, Scholars of the South Tigris, Voidfall, Barcelona, Earthborne Rangers, Horseless Carriage. Absolutely outstanding year for new releases. Personally I have not played a more addicting game than The White Castle in quite some time. A truly elegant design.
Still waiting on my copies of White Castle and Evacuation. Bundled them together when I pre-ordered back in September and Evacuation stock to the US was delayed. My 2023 list: 10 - Distilled 9 - Scout 8 - Earth 7 - Scholars of the South Tigris 6 - La Granja Deluxe Master Set 5 - Darwin's Journey 4 - Revive (2023 release in the United States) 3 - GWT: New Zealand 2 - Nucleum 1 - Voidfall
Nice list! And sorry about your delayed deliveries. It looks like you skew a bit closer to Ryan's tastes, and the heavier side of things, but love the breadth of your list overall!
Jeremy makes a great point with the focus on fun. You can easily get caught up in the search for new innovate games, but forget that fun isn´t necessarily the same thing.

All great choices here, I definitely want to check a lot of these out. I own a few, Scholars, Dune Uprising, neither which I have played yet. But Dune Imperium is my favorite game of all time, and Wayfarers shot into my top 3 after only playing solo. I love Garphill games. I imagine I’ll really enjoy both of the others even more, based on what I know about them. I also own Wild Tiled West and The White Castle, but haven’t played yet. Darwin’s Journey I backed immediately, and still haven’t played. Planning to table it this weekend for solo play. Games I really want to add to my collection or at least play are: Raising Robots, Apiary, The Witcher, and Distilled! Soooo many great games this year!
Interesting choices, but nothing for me this year. There are so many games that I own and love that anything that does not tick all my boxes will never get my money anymore. The only one that I loved was so expensive that I couldn't buy it, Voidfall. Oh, well, thank you for the video as always.
It didnt feel that great either... I didnt like the fact that every turn in Voidfall you could do just actions game rules allow you for that turn. That felt wierd. I bought ONLY Witcher, because Im fan And play it before. And even that is missing Monster trail, without this expansion you dont need to play it second time 😅
Hey Everyone, Really enjoyed the video, subscribed to channel. You have a great blend of personalities, which makes the choices dynamic and interesting. A few things would be really helpful, for me, when discussing the game to know how many players can play base game and the general range of the cost, as these heavy games are significant $$$’s. I know a few times players #’s were mentioned and you all did good with mentioning solo options. I have a lot of 4 player and some 5 players, but gaming group and parties have me seeking that 6-10 range, which for heavy games are very rare. Great lists, too great for my $$$’s, but going to dig deeper right now to make my short list! THANK YOU!!! Evacuation, kutna Hora, art society, scholars of Tigris, and Darwin got me pumped!! 😊
Hey Tim, thanks for watching, commenting, AND SUBCRIBING! We really appreciate it, and thanks for the kind words. We'll take to heart your request of game stats to be included in some way, and try to add some sort of graphic -- particularly when we do these sorts of numbered lists. Sounds like you enjoy the same sorts of games we do! I'm off to get another play of Scholars of the South Tigris in this evening, and introduce it to my wife! 😁
My top games of this year: 7. Apiary 6. Voidfall 5. The Witcher: Old World 4. Evenfall 3. Dune Imperium: Uprising 2. Scholars of the South Tigris 1. Expeditions But I do want to point out that 2022 was for me a better year than 2023.
Emily - Have you played Hooky (Rio Grande Games)? Since you enjoy deduction style games I would think you might like this one. I haven't played Fiction yet but definitely want to. Hooky also has some elements of Wordle and we really like it a lot. Really enjoyed this video and hearing everyone's reasons for their choices.
God bless Jeremy for naming Kutna Hora. This game doesn’t get the love it deserves. My personal GOTY. Wonderful list everyone. So many good games this year. EBR and Art Society both made my list too
Probably the most diverse list as a whole. Some crossovers with other channels, but more games here unique to your lists. It would be interesting to get the rankings of all the channels and where they put each game, then like MVP voting for sports if x game gets so many 5 spots they get y points and in the end see which games scored the most points to make the Collective Content Creator’s Top Games of 2023. (Why do I do this to myself?!)
Well I got some data! 43 top 10 games of 2023 lists compiled from 7 channels, making the 'Top 10 of the Top 10 Games of 2023': 10: showing up on 6 different lists, coming in at 10, 9, 3, 1, 1, 1...Darwin's Journey 9: showing up on 6 different lists, coming in at 4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1...Barcelona 8: showing up on 7 different lists, coming in at 10, 7, 7, 7, 5, 2, 1...Sky Team 7: showing up on 7 different lists, coming in at 8, 8, 6, 6, 5, 3, 1...Last Light 6: showing up on 7 different lists, coming in at 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 2...Ticket to Ride Legacy 5: showing up on 7 different lists, coming in at 9, 5, 4, 4, 2, 1, 1...Thunder Road Vendetta 4: showing up on 7 different lists, coming in at 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1...Sagrada Artisans 3: showing up on 8 different lists, coming in at 10, 7, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2...World Wonders 2: showing up on 10 different lists, coming in at 10, 10, 8, 8, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...Apiary 1: showing up on 21 different lists, coming in at 9, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 5, 5, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1...Earth
Other fun tidbits: - I don't know how to frame it, but the lowest number of mentions for a game being 5, Evacuation tops the lists with the highest scores, 5 mentions coming it at 1, 1, 1, 1, 2; Unmatched Tales to Amaze comes in second with 1, 1, 1, 2, 2. Yeah Earth had (6) 1 rankings, but also mentioned 21 times, so 4/5 for Evacuation is impressive. - Hegemony has the biggest disparity in it's rankings, mentioned (6) times 1, 1, 1, 8, 8, 8 - From above, Ticket to Ride and World Wonders both didn't log a number 1 in their mentions, but enough mentions to make the top ten top ten - If scored like a track and field event i.e. finishing 1st gets 10 points, 2nd 9, 10th 1 point etc. your new top ten top ten is: 10: Darwin's Journey (41) - number 10 on the top ten top ten and number 10 on this version of the top ten top ten 9: The White Castle (42) - new to the list! Was the 13th game just outside the top ten top ten 8: Ticket to Ride Legacy (47) 7: Unmatched Tales to Amaze (48) - not on the original list! similar to the next game it logged 5 mentions and with 1, 1, 1, 2, 2 it scored big 6: Evacuation (49) - not on the original list! As stated above it had 5 mentions and 4/5 were ranked at 1, so scoring major points 5: Thunder Road Vendetta (51) - placing 5th on both lists 4: Barcelona & World Wonders (52) - Barcelona would break the tie given 2 less mentions on lists 3: Apiary (54) 2: Sagrada Artisans (59) - moving up from 4 -> 2 1: Earth (153) - too many mentions to overtake
Certainly for quantity at least! I liked all of them but I think Rats was the best of the year despite DJ and Nucleum generally getting more reviewer praise.
Great titles. Only one I choose not to entertain anymore is Voidfall - the lack of theme in the gameplay just ruins it for me. The end doesn't jive with the start! Jeremy's list is awesome!
A day late commenting on this one, but I agree with Jeremy! Darwin's Journey was my number one for the year. It was my most anticipated for 2022 when I thought it might deliver last year. When it didn't it became my most anticipated for this year, and it absolutely delivered. I had zero doubts it would though, as, for me, at least, ThunderGryph Games has a solid track record of putting out well produced games. Darwin's Journey was easily their best game to date though. I am excited for whatever new content they have in the works for the game and I am also excited for their next collaboration with Simone Luciani and his next game, Galileo! Really Darwin's Journey is just that good. I agree the money is quite tight in that game but you don't know the real squeeze until you've played with the Fireland expansion and the first time penalty adds +2 coins to the cost you have to pay to go where there is already a worker. I further agree, that if you don't already have it, do seek out a complete copy though, which isn't hard to do considering the publisher has everything available on their (recently refreshed) website!
Maybe I missed or did you guys fail to mention Earth, CoB, TTR Legacy, In the Footsteps of Darwin, World Wonders and Wild Tiled West. Would like to hear your take on these in your honorable mentions.
CoB is going to largely get a pass on top tens unless they are talking about reprints (it's great though). TTR Legacy- I think you have to enjoy the base game. I loved Pandemic so I loved Pandemic Legacy. I find TTR to be a pretty light and random game though. Earth is Marmite this year. I played it and it was pretty bland for me. Light, nothing new, and I was completely uncompelled. Others content creators like Rahdo and Dice Tower have had it hit number 1 though.
I thought Nova Roma would have snuck onto someone's top 10. Enjoyed hearing everyone's lists nevertheless! I'm so tempted to get Voidfall but am scared by its size and complexity 😅
The Dice Tower crew revisited their top 10 games of 2022 recently. It was interesting to see how things had either changed or stayed the same after a year of catching up on missed games or letting games marinate.
Hmm clearly I need to try this Witcher old world game. Why is this the first I'm hearing of it? "I'm dreaming of a White (Castle) just like the ones I used to..." "I'll have a Blue (Moon game) without you..."
Earth is a massive favorite of ours on the channel, and we included it on our 2022 lists. In fact the joke we made early in this video was about Emily putting it on every list she could for the past few years. 😁
Well, we can agree on something...and we can disagree on something. First of all, thanks for watching, and hope you stop by our channel more often.😁 Yes, The Witcher is great, and I'm not sure why more media doesn't give it more attention. It's quite an accomplishment as a game in its own right, but particularly in the world of not-so-great IP games (typically). We actually played Earth very early, and it started delivering in 2022, so we ended up including it on our lists last year. We all really enjoy Earth, and feel it deserves the praise it gets whatever the year. With that said, I hope you'll still tune into MvM every now and then. 😏
Is it just me, the camera angle changing continuously (zooming) was quite distracting. That said, really appreciate the list and content. Nice to see the gang together :) Also, love seeing Raising Robots and Apiary on the list :)
It's just you. 😉 Seriously, thanks for the feedback. I'll try to dial it back a little. A peek behind the curtain though, sometimes we use those to cover some edits and/or take a quiet sneeze, dropped phone, or check on the audio equipment out of sight. 😁 I haven't tried Raising Robots yet, but really want to. And yes, Apiary takes the unique award for being on all four of our lists. Love it.
Actually, I mentioned that we'd thought we'd included it in 2022, but we actually hadn't. It should have been included by a couple of us, but Emily in particular. She and I put out a clarification video later this afternoon. At the end of the day, still a bunch of great games this year...including Earth.
guys...guys...I don't need more games, I have too many, stop making me interested in more games.....
Facts
Absolutely thrilled to see Raising Robots make it onto the top 10 games of 2023 list! Such an honor for us, especially since it just hit stores this December. Thanks for the recognition!
I just kept playing it over and over again! Easy choice
Yeah for real - it legit replaces Wingspan for me!
3) Earth - don't think I need to elaborate here either, lol
4) Coffee Rush - this has become one of my go-to end of the game night games, it feels a lot like Overcooked in boardgame form, except you play as baristas putting together drinks trying to serve customers before their order drop below your board. It's adorable and it's fun.
5) Apiary - another one you've already elaborated on
6) Pirates of Maracaibo - this one replaces Maracaibo for me, I get to have the same experience in a shorter time, there's nothing I personally feel is missing from Maracaibo, and there's less of a rushing problem in this one.
Finally someone gives some credit to Pirates of Maracaibo. Nice list by the way
I just subscribed to your channel because of how much my tastes align with Ryan's. I would definitely take game recommendations from him! Everyone's lists were really good, though. Some gems across each of them and stuff for me to research and learn more about.
My Top Ten of 2023 is:
10. Darwin's Journey
9. Amritsar: The Golden Temple
8. Sky Team
7. Expeditions
6. Barcelona
5. 3 Ring Circus

Still waiting on my copies of White Castle and Evacuation. Bundled them together when I pre-ordered back in September and Evacuation stock to the US was delayed. My 2023 list:
10 - Distilled

6 - La Granja Deluxe Master Set
5 - Darwin's Journey
4 - Revive (2023 release in the United States)

Nice list! And sorry about your delayed deliveries. It looks like you skew a bit closer to Ryan's tastes, and the heavier side of things, but love the breadth of your list overall!
Kutna Hora, Darwin's Journey and Nucleum are all bangers. So many tableau builders I need to try. Fantastic lists everyone!
Jeremy makes a great point with the focus on fun. You can easily get caught up in the search for new innovate games, but forget that fun isn´t necessarily the same thing.

The only one that I loved was so expensive that I couldn't buy it, Voidfall.

I bought ONLY Witcher, because Im fan And play it before. And even that is missing Monster trail, without this expansion you dont need to play it second time 😅
Hey Everyone,
Really enjoyed the video, subscribed to channel.
Thanks a lot, Ryan!
My top games of this year:
7. Apiary
6. Voidfall
5. The Witcher: Old World
4. Evenfall
3. Dune Imperium: Uprising
2. Scholars of the South Tigris
1. Expeditions
But I do want to point out that 2022 was for me a better year than 2023.
Shout out to Wisconsin!! I’m from Milwaukee and always love the Wisco love. I was already interested, but definitely checking out Raising Robots now.
EBR and Art Society both made my list too
Did exactly what Jeremy said about Darwin's Journey - missed the collector's edition so bought *all* the available modules and upgrades to get close!
Nice! That one was one of my blind spots this year, but I did set it up yesterday to start learning it.
Earthborn Rangers - my man! Your whole list was legit dude - no wonder you like Oath to Embers! We like a lot of the same games.
Emily’s sweater is amazing.
It really is.
Probably the most diverse list as a whole. Some crossovers with other channels, but more games here unique to your lists. It would be interesting to get the rankings of all the channels and where they put each game, then like MVP voting for sports if x game gets so many 5 spots they get y points and in the end see which games scored the most points to make the Collective Content Creator’s Top Games of 2023. 9: The White Castle (42) - new to the list! Was the 13th game just outside the top ten top ten
8: Ticket to Ride Legacy (47)
7: Unmatched Tales to Amaze (48) - not on the original list! similar to the next game it logged 5 mentions and with 1, 1, 1, 2, 2 it scored big

2: Sagrada Artisans (59) - moving up from 4 -> 2
1: Earth (153) - too many mentions to overtake
Darwin's Journey, Rats of Wistar, Nucleum (+Anunnaki: Dawn of the Gods) - this was Luciani's big year.
Certainly for quantity at least! I liked all of them but I think Rats was the best of the year despite DJ and Nucleum generally getting more reviewer praise.
Great video! I want a follow up to hear if anything gets shuffled or dethroned by one of the “blind spots” 😊
We might do that!
i havent been by yalls channel in a long time - is jeremy still there? great vid - thx yall!
Welcome back! Jeremy Howard is, but he's the only Jeremy at MvM. 🙂 What did you think of our lists, and did you have any favorite games from 2023?
Great titles. Only one I choose not to entertain anymore is Voidfall - the lack of theme in the gameplay just ruins it for me. The end doesn't jive with the start! Jeremy's list is awesome!
Thanks for the robot love. Hi from Wisconsin!
I just watched a playthrough on Before you Play's channel and I think this is one I need to try, great job!
@@jaayse3690 Thanks for the support!
You folks do it great. Thanks.
Avery enjoyable video, all four of you bring something to the table. It will be interesting to hear your honourable mentions.
I further agree, that if you don't already have it, do seek out a complete copy though, which isn't hard to do considering the publisher has everything available on their (recently refreshed) website!
yeessssss!! The video I have been waiting for!
Dang no Hegemony! Great list still
You guys are GREAT‼️
Maybe my favorite type of comment! Thanks for watching, and you too are GREAT! 😁
Merry Christmas
Thank you! And a Happy Holidays to you too!
What # would [redacted] be if Emily had allowed it on her list?
one
I tried and bought How Dare You at Essen and I always have a ton of fun with this game and with various groups. I really want to try Distilled
Love the shoutout for Raising Robots. I can’t understand why people sleep on this!
38:25 when I see a typo, I think maybe there are other aspects of the game overlooked. If I have Wits & Wagers, I'll definitely pass on that one.
Phenomenal lists everyone
Blocking in worker placement games is outdated and negative interaction. Bumping is the next step in the evolution! 🏆
Nice Bamf! Shirt Jeremy. I have that same shirt and it’s fire!
Great choice, Ryan. Nucleum #1
I just knew Ryan would pick it as his #1. He'd been absolutely gushing about it the weeks leading up to recording this.
So is there really no way to obtain Vale of Eternity until March 2024 in the US? I'd love to play it ASAP
It’s very tough with games that come out so close to the end of the year
Very tough indeed!
The Dice Tower crew revisited their top 10 games of 2022 recently. It was interesting to see how things had either changed or stayed the same after a year of catching up on missed games or letting games marinate.
I wanna do something like this on the channel. Thanks for the comment
The omission that surprised me was Dragonkeepers. Did you guys play it, and what did you think about it if you did?
I wanted to play this so bad before the end of the year.
That Yu-Gi-Oh Hoodie is the hardest
Was there ever a follow up to this list?
We will do one for 2024, and most likely do our reflection on our 2023 list around the same time.
Hmm clearly I need to try this Witcher old world game. Why is this the first I'm hearing of it?
"I'm dreaming of a White (Castle) just like the ones I used to..."
"I'll have a Blue (Moon game) without you..."
Vale of Eternity is a really solid game but I wish it had a different theme.
Would love to see a top 10 SOLO games of 2023
It's coming I'm just sick right now!
@@meepleSick for Xmas :( Hope you will be better soon
Some of the photos shared are from a prototype of Voidfall that was scraped several years ago.
You are correct. Some pictures we have to use from.....somewhere game night pics, archives from previews, things like that.
I am shocked that Earth is not on anyone's list.
Earth is a massive favorite of ours on the channel, and we included it on our 2022 lists. In fact the joke we made early in this video was about Emily putting it on every list she could for the past few years. 😁
Finally a review site that played witcher (seriously why is no major review channels playing this game?). And an added bonus, no overrated Earth!
Well, we can agree on something...and we can disagree on something. First of all, thanks for watching, and hope you stop by our channel more often.😁
Yes, The Witcher is great, and I'm not sure why more media doesn't give it more attention.
I also think Earth is very overrated. But I think the same if wingspan so I'm certainly in the minority.
Faraway is so good! but technically a 2024 game, no? only released few copies in Essen and not available yet I think
Thanks for the great list
Is it just me, the camera angle changing continuously (zooming) was quite distracting. That said, really appreciate the list and content. Nice to see the gang together :) Also, love seeing Raising Robots and Apiary on the list :)
It's just you. 😉
Seriously, thanks for the feedback. I'll try to dial it back a little. A peek behind the curtain though, sometimes we use those to cover some edits and/or take a quiet sneeze, dropped phone, or check on the audio equipment out of sight. 😁
I haven't tried Raising Robots yet, but really want to. And yes, Apiary takes the unique award for being on all four of our lists. Love it.
@@meeple thank you and really enjoy the content. Happy holidays to you all :)
I'm really surprised that you picked so many times Witcher :) I mean I'm glad but still surprised ;)
Septima, Kutna Hora and Sky Team are my top 3
The amount of Earth comments is funny. Might have to pin your response at the top.
Oh, we did more than that. 😉 See our first "apology" video ever...
Surprised Witcher. I passed on that one. Was close on it.
Where's Earth?
Definitely want to check out Darwin’s Journey now
If Emily is an big deduction fan she should try Hooky, really great
NO EARTH?!?!?!
Dune uprising is MUCH BETTER than dune imperium.
Apiary made everyone's list...
Nobody with Earth in their Top 10? Wow.
See their 2022 video if you want to see that
Actually, I mentioned that we'd thought we'd included it in 2022, but we actually hadn't. It should have been included by a couple of us, but Emily in particular. She and I put out a clarification video later this afternoon. At the end of the day, still a bunch of great games this year...including Earth.
No agreement on what the #1 game is? Hmm.... Tells me there is no singular standout game.
Huh, surprised none of you mentioned Earth. It seems to be on most people's lists.
Emily did and it was her game of the year last year and her favorite game of all time
Nyah.
😃
So many English exclusive games :(
👹🤡💩💩💩💩💩😊
