Then add constant Yamato cannon attacks and Science vessel ☢️ on overlords and you got so much pressure it is very hard to move against the base …. Or do as this guy and finish them off within 15 minutes
I usually Go UED First to get rid of the Valkyries harrasing my overlords and air units and yamato Spams in General , after they're dealt with i can send a control group of Guardians and one of Devourers with some ground units as cannon fodder and Arcturus's base falls pretty quickly, after that is mostly crashing wave after wave of units versus the protoss untill they fall like a true Zerg

Thanks for the walkthrough. I have finally completed it! I took down Protoss by swarming them early with hydralisks. Afterwhich, I built an impregnable defence base. I burrowed several hyralisks to guard the position where the ghost usually does their nuclear launch. Also, I burrowed hydralisks slightly further out from the base to counter the battlecruisers by surprising them when they arrived. It is interesting to note that hyralisks consume very little resources and are incredibly useful against both land and air units. Subsequently, I hunt the map for all the resource spots available to extract. I specifically like using Nydus canal because it is good for evacuating and sending drones. Having five or more hatcheries together at the main base is a MUST for creating as many useful units as possible. Armed with all these strategies, I defended the base for many hours using very little resources because the hydralisk and guardian does a very great job at defence. As such, I amassed plentiful of resource (more than 10K worth of minerals and vespene gas respectively). Finally, when it is time to assault, I use hydralisks as shield for my guardians because of their cheap cost as compared with guardians. I also employed scourge (suicide air units) to destroy air units trying to get to my guardians. Overlord serves as good tanks and allow sight on invisible units which are imperative. To conquer and hold firm to the ground, I use hold position very often. With this combination (hydralisks + guardians + overlords + scourge), we can sweep the map clean by advancing the units in one batch (12 units) at a time. However, do note that we need to use guardians to take out the siege tanks first before advancing the batches of hydralisks.

I know I'm mad late here, sorry, but I'm at that part in the video and came to the comments to find out why? Is it just a joke-y way to show commitment to mass hydras?
I just beat it in over 3 hours in the Dominion-UED-Protoss order. The UED felt like it was the toughest nut to crack since getting to their last unit-producing buildings were all the way huddled in the back.
I think they improved the AI significantly since this video. Because most the time when I face Protoss if I group my army like this, I will get decimated by their Reavers....same goes for Terrans...they will use Siege Tank like REAL HUMANS...they know where to place them and kept a distant... They know how to group Anti Air and Anti Ground Units together now...
You mean that Blizzard is actually modifying the AI that controls the single-player story missions in the Remastered edition of the game? That fundamentally alters the experience of the story campaign and not in a good way, given those strategies are supposed to be unique to the multiplayer side of the game.
I think that might have more to do with how fast he attacked. He didn't give the AI time to build up it's forces. I've noticed that in other missions. If you attack quickly the AI doesn't have nearly as many units, especially high tech tier units.
I have noticed the same thing. Remember playing this mission without any trouble multiple times years ago. Always started with UED, then Protoss then Mengsk. Now as soon as I enter UED base with 5 fully upgraded Hydralisk controls Im being decimated straight away by 5 tanks, 8 Battlecruisers and many other units waiting for me in their base. Definitely certain things about AI were changed in remastered verion.
No, you just take too long to attack them. If you take waaay too long, they will crush you from all sides with huge fleets of battlecruisers, nukes, 10+ wraiths etc. Turtling is pretty much the worst thing you can do in omega
It sounds really unlikely that they would change the AI after all this time. Maybe they did with the release of Remastered, but definitely not after that. Altering the AI would make the missions harder than originally intended, and I don't think that's what Blizzard is going for with these re-releases.
Stu shoutout to you though it's a big thanks to you. It helps me a lot how you show to push and destroy like the first one protoss base and terran white bases using hydralisk with full upgrade except for the red terran base so what i use is devourers and guardians to push through that base without having to worry about siege tank and spider mines so i manage to complete the game Thank You.
Beautiful zerg rush. For us mortals who lack your skill, in case someone finds it useful: I always do the same strategy for protoss and UED, mass hydra + few ultras. It's important that you end each opponent with one blow, otherwise while you rebuild your force the remaining ones will upgrade and become much tougher. In my latest run, I failed to eradicate both the protoss and the UED and needed 2-3 pushes for each. This resulted in huge attacks with 2-3 BCs from white and mass nukes/tanks from red. I keep red for last, always same strat: 12 guardians, 12 devourers, 12 mutas to replenish losses, start from top to bottom. All in all, much easier than to slay the beast.
My goodness, I love this character and how perfectly evil she is. Powerful, manipulative, ruthless, cruel, confident, extremely smart (I mean she already know about the fleets before Arcturus tells her. Oh, and as for Kerrigan knowing about the fleet: she's a telepath. There is a bit of a plot hole in the original regarding this, though. She should have been able to know Arcturus was going to leave her to die by the Zerg.
Looking at this, and remembering how much I struggled with this mission 20 years ago, feels like they nerfed it lol GG, loved watching it and comparing it to my old memories!
Haha same... but I feel like we all got a lot better. Back then I didn't realize how important it was to have A LOT of workers mining minerals. (2 per single patch and 3 per gas). lol
thank you Stu for this walkthrough. i was stuck on this level for a long time. following your example in the first few minutes set me up well. thank you. just one question, why blow up your Spawning Pool? i did, and realized i couldn't build Sunkens anymore.
Because this mission seems to be easy I play with self limit of no expansion on free bases (but the enemy bases may be taken) and attack with ling hydra only. It is very difficult to kill Arcturus without air support but it can be done. He have 2 bases and if you attack alternately he will not be able to defend both. The key to this mission is that you do not launch an attack until that target may be destroyed in one go. This is hugely dependent on numbers and upgrade level.
When I completed this mission (I finished UED last) only UED was present on mission end summary screen. Mengsk and Artanis entries were missing like they were never there.
This was always one of my favorite missions: it really captured the feel of "I am the final boss" without being something you can beat without feeling like a complete pushover. You still have to use skill, mengsk is a tough but to crack and Artanis is on top of those psi storms and darchons.... But you can just pump out so many units with seemingly limitless resources
I don't know about the plot of Brood War. Everyone but Kerrigan and Duran is taking stupid pills and even she lets defeated enemies limp away and rebuild about half a dozen times. Mengsk loses his homeworld twice, his entire army three times and at the end of it he's STILL in power! In the base game campaign the people who lost, lost.
Nice! I was kinda impressed by the difficulty of this mission and then this dude just does a hydra rush. I don't remember how I fared with this mission 20 years ago, but just bought remastered and knocked out the mission in 4 hrs on my second attempt =(. I didn't look at any walkthroughs though. My first attempt I tried guardian/devourers and every one of the enemy just had too much splash air defenses. It may have worked eventually but was just costing so much that I gave up on it. The second attempt I did lings/hydra with some guardians/devourers for support. That worked pretty well on every base. It took me 4 hrs cuz I piddle around a lot, clean up every enemy building, scout every black area, etc.
I remember playing this mission as a kid, turtling as kids do, and not having trouble. I've since re-run the map multiple times being aggressive and moving out almost ASAP against each enemy and wound up getting stuck and eventually overwhelmed since all the AI come and assist each other and attack in unison if I am not pushing.
There's something wrong here. Why don't Mengsk and UED attack? I know it was a fast rush, but still...not a single attack from R and W! Have they nerfed this mission lol?
I just played this level and usually there are a few minutes between attacks. UED attacks around 5:30, encounter with Dominion at 2:40, could have been an attack or just being seen while scouting- hard to say when it's offscreen, 11:04 UED again. 16:47 Dominion again (Already attacking the UED by then) and probably attacking the Dominion by the next attacked cycle. It probably just seems like they don't attack as much because the game is so short and they haven't had a chance to perform beefier/more threatening attacks like with Nukes or BCs
I would need to build a massive air army with careful micro to win this mission, even so it takes me a full hour, and the first 30 min is stressful af, as devourer in BW did not perform as well as I thought it would be, and difficult to control them in general. Guardian in return got targeted often as well. Protoss is the toughest to kill thanks to reaver and archon and scouts. Both Terran are surprisingly not that hard to deal with in comparison. Update: tried again to play mass hydra, Protoss becomes the easiest to kill (I killed the toss first), but both Terran takes forever to kill, losing tons of stuff, main base got wiped out twice, as well as rebuilding all expansions at least three times. Rallying large army is difficult af, if only I could have a 200 supply hydra charging the Terran base, or zergling even. Two fxxking hours. Jesus. There are many outlying small bases that can be used as expansion apparently, but they aren’t easy to hold either. Plus, what’s the matter of having mineral field separated from gas…. Guess it is just 1998 thing: more “natural” feeling rather than esport-y.
Last time I went mass hydra against the north (air) terran base first, then switched to 2 groups of guardians and 1 of devourers for the other two. Still took over an hour.
Sounds like to me you both need to make more workers and more hatcheries. I'm "slow" at it and I kill Dugal first with hydras and lings, then the protoss second with hydras and lings. Next I kill Minks with 1 group of guardians, 1 group of devours and 1-2 groups of mutas. Expanding fast to that first south expansion mineral field helps speed things up as well.
Goddamn you play fast ^^ I just tried now with zerglings only .. took me about 40 minutes and i haven't taken arcturus' base yet. Have to make some mutalisks to deal with the tanks, they make it impossible to get into the base with the lings...
i know this is a year late reply, but... i found save scumming creates a very odd problem. the ai is able to continue commands issued from one save to another on reload causing the bases to get stacked with troops. i mopped up toss pretty easily then failed the attack on dippy doo...only ro reload to reorganize and got slammed by a wall of seige tanks that were not there previously...it was nuts..
I took UED out first since, their attacks begin to be most annoying when they start letting out their valkiryes and battlecruisers, then I decided to take out protoss, kinda pissed me off archons mind control and templers psy storm over my hydras, left Mengsk for last and nothing like a shitloads of devourers and guardians could finish the job.
My order was: Protoss -> UED -> Mengsk Protoss was easily defeated. UED had the battlecruisers, and Mengsk had the Ghosts who kept nuking my base. My suggestion would be the following: • Use Guardians along with Defilers. Defilers will help you kill the air units that target your Guardians. • Try to clear out tanks before sending in your units. • Keep using your Overlords to reveal invisible Ghosts, air units and Dark Templars. • Mass Hydra is good for defense and offense. • Once you clear out an enemy base, build a Hatchery there.
To make it more poetic, I sorta did the same thing, but I beat Mengsk second and Dugalle last. I wasn't as spot on as demonstrated in this clip, but I don't think I had any significant reaver problems, just needed one extra squad or two of hydralisks and zerglings.
Hydras are so great because they're one of the few units that control really well (unlike dragoons, for example). Also the counter to hydras are area of effect attacks which the computer doesn't use very often, except for the siege tanks in Mengsk's base, which is why I build guardians to take those out.
@@StuGames So there is some value in compressing units, even if damage is less Looking at Liquipedia, it seems like 2 hydras have double the dps as a single dragoon, but need a speed upgrade and get less range after upgrades.
@@suddenllybah You also need to look at the damage type. Hydras deal reduced damage to small units, which is why in competitive matches, they are never built to counter mutalisks!
I wonder if they will ever make a movie out of Starcraft in our lifetime? You'd think with the ties to Universal they'd have done it long ago. SooOOoooo many people all over the world have enjoyed this franchise. I just don't understand. They'd totally make gazillions of dollars!
@@michaelphelps1000 1. I don't need the buildings and I want to build hatcheries there later 2. adding the larva makes the guardians clump up together (google "mutalisk stacking" for more info)
One more thing. I've tried to starve the enemy, but it is impossible. If the basic mineral fields run out, the ai doesn't send its workers to new ones, yet the money just keeps coming in. It seems to me their command centers have a separate button: click and get 100,000 crystals, or something. Because if I destroy their main buildings and kill the workers, then the ai does run out of money.
Why don't whites and reds attack?! During this time, I would have been bombarded with nuclear missiles and cruisers. The remastering seems to have a different level of difficulty.
It still trips me up The N64 port (which I wish I had for historic reasons) censored the swearing. Including Kerrigan sassily bragging that she's the "Queen bitch of the Universe". While one could blame Nintendo's tendency for censorship at the time (which largely died by the GameCube era, ironic as THAT was the "kiddy" console at the time), here's the trippy part: Starcraft 64 came out in 2000, months after Nintendo and Rare (then Rareware) released Perfect Dark (spiritual follow up to Goldeneye 007). In that game, an enemy gunman can die with their last words calling Joanna Dark a "bitch" under sexist context. Yet Kerrigan couldn't brag about herself? What happened there? Did Blizzard just NOT trust that Nintendo was changing then?
AFAIK there is no dificulty selecting in SC - and based on previous mission Stu is HYPER aggressive and since he attacks so early Toss doesn't have so many of them so it's easier to overrun them. It's contrary what my playstyle(to plang long) is but the more time you play mostly benefits them, not you.
Uf...
Why complicate things? With zerg, in missions its unfortunately always the same thing: Mutalisks, GUARDIANS (cheat unit), and Devourers 2 Spires for maximum speed on upgrades! Job done! I tried all kinds of things. Thats the most easy way.
yep. i'm watching this cause i suck at problem solving. i tried mass Zergling vs Protoss and then mass Ultralisks, and then mass Guardians, but their Air Force is too strong so then i just decided to War of Attrition defense prolonging game long enough that hte bot stops thinking and stops attacking me ... they had too much attacking me :( it never got ot that point. Guess ima copy pasta the Hydralisk strat. No point in Zergling getting mass slaughtered by High Templars lightning ,, or Ultralisks just to get mind controlled by dark Archons ,, or by AA killing my Guardians :( :( :(
Zerg campaign is the best example of why all Blizzard plots so shitty. Some time later another such example is final campaign and last mission for Scourge in Warcraft III (against Illidan). They just cannot make plausible plot, so always need Deus Ex Machina.
I find it ironic kerrigan gets all the credit for this victory, when its the cerebrate who did all the work. Only to later get killed by her.
Kerrigan didn’t need to kill the Cerebrate

When I completed this mission (I finished UED last) only UED was present on mission end summary screen. Mengsk and Artanis entries were missing like they were never there.
Thank you! I’ve tried at first destroy the red Terrain and he was hard. It’s much easier to start from the Protoss
This level still takes me a good 90 mins XD
Well played.
End epilogue in the original was darker, they added more context in the remastered version
Hydralisks are the answer to everything in single player Starcraft
Damn I hate this mission. Cannot play as fast as you but damn I remember playing this mission for weeks when it first came out
I remember playing this mission as a kid, turtling as kids do, and not having trouble. I've since re-run the map multiple times being aggressive and moving out almost ASAP against each enemy and wound up getting stuck and eventually overwhelmed since all the AI come and assist each other and attack in unison if I am not pushing.
thanks. all i learn in this zerg mission is zerg is a not chilling class. it's a rush type. haha
I recommend this combination
zerglings+ hydrarisks+ Ultrarisks also queens
You know a Brood War mission is hard if Stu's speedrun of it is 20+ minutes lol
8:15 why did hydralisks Destroy his spawning pool?
To make room for the hatcheries.
My order was: Protoss -> UED -> Mengsk
Protoss was easily defeated. UED had the battlecruisers, and Mengsk had the Ghosts who kept nuking my base.
My suggestion would be the following:
• Use Guardians along with Defilers.
Interesting that Hydras are meta in this kind of game.
.... I guess the speed doesn't matter in a non LT style map.
Hydras are so great because they're one of the few units that control really well (unlike dragoons, for example). Also the counter to hydras are area of effect attacks which the computer doesn't use very often, except for the siege tanks in Mengsk's base, which is why I build guardians to take those out.
@@StuGames
So there is some value in compressing units, even if damage is less
Looking at Liquipedia, it seems like 2 hydras have double the dps as a single dragoon, but need a speed upgrade and get less range after upgrades.
Well, after the Warcraft flop they might have second thoughts.
What game plan would do you do later?
I'm doing some more Diablo 1 now, no plans after that!
@@StuGames one question more, why did you destroy spawning pool and colony and add larva to the squad of mutalisk ?
@@michaelphelps1000 1. I don't need the buildings and I want to build hatcheries there later
2. adding the larva makes the guardians clump up together (google "mutalisk stacking" for more info)
So the trick is to do wipe before they are getting nuclears? Can be done if the are doing that? (i mean 3 nuclear strikes in 1 attack at some point)
This mission is easier than mission 8.
Agreed. The CPU brings the HEAT in level 8.
Did Destroying your own spawning pool trick the AI into leaving your base alone?
I usually get rekt by reavers in this missions
One more thing. I've tried to starve the enemy, but it is impossible. If the basic mineral fields run out, the ai doesn't send its workers to new ones, yet the money just keeps coming in. It seems to me their command centers have a separate button: click and get 100,000 crystals, or something. Because if I destroy their main buildings and kill the workers, then the ai does run out of money.
How many Hydralisks do you need to complete this mission?
Shu: Yes.
This is why hydras are my fav SC unit
Why don't whites and reds attack?! During this time, I would have been bombarded with nuclear missiles and cruisers. The remastering seems to have a different level of difficulty.
This guy is so fast they're all dead before the AI gets tech.
@@dirtbones, I agree about his coolness, however, in this mission, AI initially have technologies
Can you do inconsumates the 3rd mission ... Or all of them. It is my fav scenatio
Well, Kerrigan showed them all that they should be hydrated
Why do your hatcheries and hives look like lava covered?
A year late but it's because they're playing the remastered edition.
Is this on super easy? Where are the reavers? Mass hydra shouldn't be walking through the Toss base.
Can someone explain why he deliberately destroyed his spawning pool and spore colony?
To have more space :D in one place. (Double click to select all on-screen)
The best unit always-----> Hydralisk.
This fucking mission is the hardest.
POV: “Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak” - Sun Tzu, The Art of War. - *have gone wrong in forsaken wasteland*

Why did you destroy your own spawning pool?
didn't need it =)
Why complicate things? With zerg, in missions its unfortunately always the same thing: Mutalisks, GUARDIANS (cheat unit), and Devourers
2 Spires for maximum speed on upgrades! Job done!
I tried all kinds of things. Thats the most easy way.
First the galaxy battle the UED now they teamed up with the UED against the Zerg.
Sehr gut. Und irgendwann kommt ja das Warcraft 3 Remaster.
Insane skills T.T
yep. i'm watching this cause i suck at problem solving. i tried mass Zergling vs Protoss and then mass Ultralisks, and then mass Guardians, but their Air Force is too strong so then i just decided to War of Attrition defense prolonging game long enough that hte bot stops thinking and stops attacking me ... they had too much attacking me :( it never got ot that point. Guess ima copy pasta the Hydralisk strat. No point in Zergling getting mass slaughtered by High Templars lightning ,, or Ultralisks just to get mind controlled by dark Archons ,, or by AA killing my Guardians :( :( :(
Waaaooo you are zerg 😱
thy terans dont use nuclears , they always do against my zergs :D
Good tactic,I took 3 hrs to take them up 😥😥😥
Zerg campaign is the best example of why all Blizzard plots so shitty.
Some time later another such example is final campaign and last mission for Scourge in Warcraft III (against Illidan).
They just cannot make plausible plot, so always need Deus Ex Machina.
Anyway, all presented speedrun is great and I had fun to watch it.
pro just power overwhelming and destroy everyone with a single hydra
I this mission I usually used guardians and devourers to attack the enemy base.
tried my best , only manage win mengsk , cannot win against protross nor ued Bc and valkries and goliaths
Mission completed in under 20 min gameplay time. “Rush” is not accurately enough
I WILL COPY YOUR TECHNIQUE
Eu gastei 4 horas e ainda perdi, to me sentindo o pior jogador do mundo :(
The "remaster" sucks ass on briefings. The character portrait sucks so hard.
yeah... and everything in the game looks more like a cartoon
"walkthrough"
ain't no way for me to walk this through
