jitterball Its the way the Crossplane engine fires,,, theres a couple new ones even an M near my place and the all sound like vicious Nascars VS the classic indy car sound out of a kawi or BMW... every R1 Crossplane sounds like that...

jitterball Personally I think it sounds more like a V8, but yes, the crossplane design creates a very unique sound.
+Cavedog the r1 sounds great during idle and when you're just riding around town,but when it comes to high speed flyby,imo the i4 bikes such as the zx10r sounds way better,but hey to each its own
