we added about 4-5 inches of polyurethane foam that we placed at the head of the bed to make the be longer. It is glued together to be the same height as the mattress. It can be pulled out each morning
We have a slide. It covers the dinette and the couch. It’s only about 18” extended, but it really opens the coach up. We love it. But we wouldn’t extend it if we’re boondocking in close quarters. I love these videos. Keep them coming!
Maybe you could find a small storage ottoman cube that fits on the side of your bed for the dog to use as a step. It could be moved out of the way when it isn't needed as a step, and it would give you a bin for toys or shoes.
That's along the lines of what we've been thinking, we just have to make sure it's sturdy enough to hold an adult's weight when we invariably forget that it's down there when getting out of bed in the morning! 😂
My wife and I were considering a Class C, but ended up buying a trailer instead. It is interesting hearing your comparison between a trailer and a class C. I searched TH-cam for pros and cons of the class C, but did not find much on the topic. We still think about buying a class C in a few years when we retire.
We're actually going to do a full discussion on everything Travel Trailer vs. Class C in an upcoming episode. We touched on a few topics here but have a ton more to talk about. Thanks for watching!
I've only recently found your site and I enjoy watching your videos... My wife and I have talked about class C's in the past and you both are helping with our thoughts... I appreciate all the leg walk you both have been doing...Good luck in your search to get the best class C for you and your family... We look forward in seeing your final choice...
Thanks guys! We've actually stopped looking at Class C's because we've decided to go full-time again instead of staying in a house and getting a C for part-time use. Check out our latest couple videos for all the details. 👍👍
What size sheets does the almost queen use, please talk about gas mileage and how are you keeping warm inside? Thank you so much for sharing this I’m seriously thinking about and class C but making a school bus my own design peeks my interest also. Can’t wait til your next video. Just subbed so I don’t miss anything
We were able to fit queen sheets on both the 60x74 mattress in the back and the cabover area where the kids slept. I'm not sure what the dimensions of the cabover are, but having a really stretchy fitted sheet helped a ton. We got around 8mpg cruising on the highway around 65mph, but obviously that's going to vary a lot depending on terrain, your load, how you drive, etc. As for heat, there's a propane heating system built in so no worries there.
we are looking at hiring a Class C for our 35 night road trip as Aussies in America. We have decided to stay in a AirBNB for the first couple of nights picking up the Rv the night before we leave so we can stock it and work everything out before taking off. I don't know how people do it otherwise especially with kids. Can you guys comment on Fuel useage? it has a 208L tank from what I can see, trying to work out how economical they are. obviously with Fuel prices crazy at present its hard to work that out.
Nice. I just watched a few of your videos... even the black tank empty video. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it. Very informative from moving day to renting, to looking to buy, new or used. I'm sure I'll be looking at more of the past videos. I'm interested in the lifestyle part time where I've looked into getting a full size Mercedes van and customizing it for versatility (cargo and camping). Thanks for uploading these videos.
In other Class Cs, they do have steps that slide out, so inside the rig has only a step or no steps, that is a variable. The width of the door can vary too. You can get sink covers. Remember, that is a Very Basic camper, designed to be pretty unbreakable. But the price is right and, with your kids the ages they are, unbreakable is good.
I feel like most of the motorhomes we've been in, A's and C's, have steps down to the door. It's just really different from Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels where the door is up at the living area height. It's just something I'll have to get used to regardless of what we end up buying!
Loved it so much information my wife and 3 kids are going across country in the cruise america. Rv 30fter thanks again i would like to know how is it on gas
Wife and I (early, active retirees) are seriously considering buying one of these rigs. No pets and not very modest (so we don't have to worry about closing bath doors and such). Question we have is would you prefer to buy this used rig (approx $25,000) and make mod's 1) tankless wtr htr, 2) bluetooth system, 3)extra propane port, 4)wireless backup camera etc) or pay $50,000 for one that has these mod's already built in ? Thanks for the great vid's !! Keepem coming. Oh, 1 more thing, wondering about the gas MPG?
Thanks for watching Gavin! The mods that you're talking about doing are nowhere near that $25k price difference. If we buy one of these we'll definitely be upgrading the head unit to incorporate bluetooth (probably $300-400) and installing a backup camera (we already have one). You're also not going to find a new unit for $50k, and any used one you find isn't going to have a warranty. We're honestly really surprised that these rigs aren't more widely talked about in the RV community because of their value! As for MPG, we got around 8 with mostly highway cruising around 65mph. That Ford V10 is super powerful too, we had NO issues accelerating to merge. It's not sluggish or bogged down at all.
Thank you so much for your feed back. Was not implying to get a new rig for $50,000, but a used one similar in age. We're looking at Vegas's and Axis's (small class A's) (2016-18) for that price. Again thank you sooo much.
I have been watching your adventure in RV shopping the last couple of months, and am waiting to see what you end up with. We have a 2002 28 ft class A Safari Trek that we bought a few years ago, which works out great for us as an empty nester couple traveling a few weeks at a time, though I can't imagine squeezing 5 people into such a size coach. One thing to remember about kids, is that they grow and take up more space, and this happens far faster than you realize.
Trust us, we know all about kids growing - ours are growing like weeds! We don't want or need a ton of space though, and our next RV will just be for vacation-style trips and not full-timing. When we hit the road again it'll probably be in a fiver or a bigger Class A.
IAM THINKING about renting one of these how did you survive the cold nights before you guys went to bed how was the heater for the living area and bathrooms etc comfortable OH SORRY I MEANT THAT I WANT TO BUY ONE AFTER RENTING AND I WOULD NOT BE IN THE COLD SPOTS ILL LOOK FOR YOUR COMMENTS NEXT WEEK
We had an electric space heater in there and it's such a small space that it had no trouble keeping up. There's also a propane heating system built in but we didn't need to use it.
They're just about the same size based on queen sheets fitting on both, but the real issue there is that the cabovers have a max weight limit and the two of us together would be too much for it to be safe.
Too funny about the bathroom and that "high rise" toilet 😂! I really was adament about purchasing a Class C but I'm starting to favor travel trailers. When your Class C breaks down, you are without your home AND your vehicle while it's being repaired 😢!
That's one reason we went with a travel trailer for fulltiming. We're going to do a towable vs drivable episode very soon and that point is already on our list to talk about.
@@Five2Go I will be watching for that comparison video. Thanks so much; your videos are always informative AND joyous! The both of you have so much personality! Take care!
We were talking about replacing the couch with something more comfortable. It would be easy because there's nothing below it and we'd only lose the two seatbelts there that the kids can't use anyway. If we replaced the dinette (which we wouldn't), there's heating and electrical under it as well as the two LATCH anchors we used for the car seats. That's not an option! 😂
If we do get one of these and replace the couch we'll try to reuse the seat belts and anchors that are there. We'll just have to find a couch or recliners that will allow us to do that!
We were plugged into 30amp in that campground and used an electric space heater. There's a propane heating system built in but we didn't need to use it.
I told you that the toilet is so high to reach🤷♀️, I couldn’t get up into the bed either ☹️. If you open the bathroom door and lock it in that position you get more space and close the curtain and you have that whole area.
The bathroom is definitely a challenge! I didn't say it in the video, but the reason I was closing the door instead of latching it into the hallway position is because the kids were asleep and I was trying to be as quiet as possible. That and I wanted to see how tight it was. I'm wondering if there is an unobtrusive way to build/store a little stool in there to bring the floor level up to the height of the toilet platform. Almost like you'd have to step up into the bathroom from the doorway. The sink would be really low then (which isn't bad for the kids), but that would be less hassle than a really high toilet...
It has regular wall outlets that all work when you're plugged into a campground or running the generator. There's a tiny little solar panel up top but it's just a trickle charger for the house batteries.
You have to add solar yourself. The only manufacturers out there making solar rigs from the factory are doing the little off-road trailers. There might be some Class B's with solar too, but they're more expensive than C's and most A's. The only way to get totally off-grid with solar is to do it yourself or find an aftermarket company to build the system for you.
The heater worked great, but we actually decided to use an electric heater overnight to save on propane. The rig is fairly small inside so it's pretty easy to keep warm.
You guys make the best RV'ing videos ever. Love the sincerity and intelligent appraisal of all you do. Great work.

I am loving your chronicles with this rental.
Thank you so much!

But if you take out the Dinette then you would have to figure out how to strap down the children's car seat in a couch

It's not that hard to bolt and add seat belts. We did it in one of our old RV's. Nice review and share 👍.
If we do get one of these and replace the couch we'll try to reuse the seat belts and anchors that are there. We'll just have to find a couch or recliners that will allow us to do that!
Steps for the dog works.
what about heat?,,u draining the lp tank and battery,,or did you get a little buddy heater?,,,,u guys r cute,,,r plugged in?
We were plugged into 30amp in that campground and used an electric space heater. There's a propane heating system built in but we didn't need to use it.
hi, what size motorhome was this?
30

Right now, I can’t even fit on our toilet. That’s changing soon, though. But it’s like your own built in squatty potty!
Tell me about the power outlets and does it have solar power
It has regular wall outlets that all work when you're plugged into a campground or running the generator. There's a tiny little solar panel up top but it's just a trickle charger for the house batteries.
Were can I find a really good solar power motor home for cheep

Give the dog a mat. It’s irrelevant consideration to let the dog sleep on your bed, which is gross.
