Apple Fire Grows To Over 20,000 Acres On Second Night Near Banning

- 08.02.2020 | 1:00 PM | BANNING - The fast-moving Apple Fire grew to over 20,000 acres and was 0% contained on a second destructive night.
The fire that is believed to be the product of arson broke out Friday around 5:00 PM in the Cherry Valley area outside Banning.
Within two days the fire has grown to 20,516 acres with 0% containment.
Authorities said several buildings and vehicles have been destroyed by the fire.
By 11:00 AM Sunday morning over 1,360 personnel were manning six firefighting helicopters, 307 engine companies, four water tenders, and 24 hand crews to combat the blaze.
About 2,000 people from 400 homes were under evacuation orders in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
Electricity in the area was being shut off to help prevent the fire from spreading.
Arson investigators are working to locate a suspect who witnesses said caused the fire.

That's exactly what it is!!! The first fire started right on the fault line and then within 10 minutes two other fires started near the fault line. Please do your research and God bless America...

You know most of you have a sick sense of humor over this fire as I am sure with many others as well. Then and women fighting these fires are taking their lives in there hands and the people that volunteer to help fight these wild fires are nearby citizens living in close proximity are also putting their lives on the line. It is daily and 24 hours not an 8 to 5 job. In the heat and smoke of a great big huge wild fire burning up the countryside of dry brus and trees and other vegetation in its path. I have family living close enough to watch this burn from a neighboring mountain and town. Give this a little wind and switch 20,000 acres become 40,000 to 60,000 acres by just one measly little blown away spark.

Calif cut their budget for Forestry. What that means is there isnts enough money to pay the required number of CDF agents for work ...They cud be out there cutting away at all the underbrush. When this isnt done it grows for years(!!!) So when a fire starts it gets explosive. Hotter than a normal fire. Cant control it. Those budget cuts i mentioned?? It'll hit the Lake Fire burn area if it swings north. The only way it'll reach Big Bear will be if it jumps 20 miles. Most likely it'll get pushed out east into the scrublands towards Pioneertown.

During the day, they have been flying super tankers dropping water and phoscheck (sp?). These are older DC-10's and 747's converted into tankers specifically for water/chemical drops. These aircraft cannot fly night missions in that terrain, but they HAVE been using them during daylight hours.
Wind was pretty bad out there when it started. There was a fire off hwy 18 a couple weeks ago that was contained easily because no wind pushing it.

Jesus H Christ lord, did you have to set the bush to burning during a drought....LOL After so many years we still fight fires the same old way. It is hard to fight fires in that terrain...so why not at some point thin the trees every so often to slow down/stop the spread....home owners love me some trees to shade my home. how much does it cost to fight these fires versus how much it cost to cut down every other tree. Worried about erosion by thinning ? think of the erosion once all the trees are gone and burnt so badly they won't grow back...better to light one small candle than it is to fight a raging fire and subsequent mudslides.
