Love the way you do your teaching. Very easy for me to follow, and your enthusiasm is definitely contagious. Your videos are a good length - not too long, to the point and not “over the top” and loud. This one is a great example. As a beginning quilter I wasn’t even considering appliqué projects, but you clearly showed that this technique is very doable, and gave me clear directions in an efficient way. I love quilting and gardening videos, but I have to be selective with my time. I groan when I see 30-60 minute videos pop up on my subscribed channels. I can count on Merry Mabel to be instructive, efficient and even calming.
❤️ the Rooster . Red, white & blues are perfect for my project. I break down quilt quality shirts, jeans & random things made from clothing that I've picked up at a goodwill or yard sale. I have a tub full of different lightweight blue jeans & other type fabrics. This is what I've been looking for. Making an Americana 🇺🇸 stye wall hanging for a display. Thanks so much for the knowledge you give. Btw your voice is so relaxing & calm... 😃
Oh my goodness this was such a fun video, thank you so much for sharing. You truly are a joy to watch. Thank you for your joy in crafting and again gorgeous projects. You are a true joy to watch and listen to. 🙏💖
Rooster or owl for me, but truly, they are all totally adorable and I can think of people I could give each one to. Thanks for sharing this. I so appreciate your encouragement.
thanks so much. I have a pattern and I have been afraid to tackle it. This video showed exactly what I need to know and what I need to do step by step. Going to get it started. Thanks so much.
I use fusible webbing for appliqué versus freezer paper. I think it keeps things in place better and is easier to then quilt with, that’s my personal preference. I don’t find it to be that stiff and for a wall hanging it doesn’t matter. I like the owl pattern, very cute!!!
I can’t thank you enough for this!! I have projects I’ve set to the side for fear of doing it wrong. You’ve given me some confidence so thank you ❤your pieces are gorgeous
Oh, I love your style! I also need to organize my brain and usually I just assign numbers on a piece of paper and then "describe" the fabric and also put a piece of paper with the number on the piece of fabric itself. But I love this visual way of assigning the fabric to the parts and I also love the pressing of the freezer paper onto the pattern piece. Thank you for helping my brain!
Honestly, I just finished a third project with raw edge applique and said, "never again!" They all look really bad; but the third one looks better than the first one because I just didn't even worry about it. I think I just don't have the patience for this technique. Your patterns look really delicious; the owl is my favorite. If I were going to do one; which I am not! 😜 But I hope people who do this better than I will take advantage of your adorable patterns! I love how quickly you move through your video; obviously you think about what you are going to say and your editing is great. Thanks for great content.
Made me laugh. Obviously if your third attempt is "almost" working.....you are almost there. I say, do the OWL and see how amazing you are!! Thanks for your sweet words.
I love that you don't talk and sew in one video, but go back and voice-over the video. We don't have to listen to the machine and other distracting noises as you work. Thank you for this fun video.
Excellent tutorial! I do quite a bit of appliqué, but never have tried without a usable on it. Nor have I ever use freezer paper in this manner. I will have to try it and see how it works. I always add decorative stitches from my fancy machine to add more sparkle and use heavyweight thread like weight 12 to wt 40. is there a link to these patterns?
“Majored in circle cutting”. LOL But I want to know if you use fabric scissors or paper scissors ? I’ve had some trouble with stitching too close to the edge and the fabric pulls away from the stitching after washing. Do you use a shorter stitch length?
Maybe sew a titch furthur in? I've never had it do that (I usually sew about 1/8th-ish inside. 2.5 is what I generally use. 2.0 at the smallest. I also quilt inside with texture, that may stabalize and support it. As for scissors? I use sewing scissors when I cut out the pattern on the fabric. My sharp Kai scissors.
This link will take you to our patterns on our website. That is a starting place. www.merrymabelmarket.com/quilt-patterns/raw-edge-applique If you want to create your own patterns you can find a friend who draws or enlarge a coloring book. Also - maybe a little experience with a pattern will help you see the possibilities of how to divide up the fabric for contrast etc. I hope you have fun!!
www.merrymabelmarket.com/quilt-patterns/p/good-morning-rooster-applique-pattern Here is a link to the pattern!! If you really make it, send us a picture after it is all done and we will post it on our website. It really is a joy to make.
After placement of the piece,,, you can take it off. Just have a pin close so you don't get confused. It comes right off... watch again at around four minutes and forty five seconds into the video. I talk about taking the freezer paper off.
At the end, we show all of the quilt patterns. We would love to hear which one is your favorite.💖

So, the freezer paper sticks to the fabric when ironed? Or do you use webbing
The freezer paper sticks. Yes.
Can you suggest the best way to find patterns or make the.? Ive seen people use coloring books and enlarge the pattern.

What happened to the freezer paper? Did you leave it on??

@@merrymabelmarket thank you sorry I missed it! Love them all especially birds
@@cheryllaycook6036 No problem. I love making them. They are so fun!!
I was suprised you use a straight stitch instead of a zigzag
Ms. Mabel, I can’t find where I sent my address to You😢
No worries! Please send your mailing address to fun@merrymabelmarket.com and we will send you the prize!
@@merrymabelmarket okay Thank You, I sent it to You Ms. Mabel
It look beautiful., but the fabric seem fraying…
Raw edge applique is supposed to fray. It will fray more when washed. THAT is the whole idea.
I love the frayed look
