I am really enjoying this course, but someone needs to go over some of the English translations. For example, 'Maria had cooked when her husband arrived at home' is not something that anyone would say. As a result, it is not clear at all what is being said here. One cannot use 'at home' unless the person is already there (i.e. one would arrive home, not arrive at home). This mainly applies to home, as one can say, for example, 'he arrived at a home (for the disabled)'. Does the sentence mean: 'Maria had already cooked by the time her husband arrived home' or something different?

They were at home when I left, or they were at home a few seconds ago. They were at home now sounds incorrect. However, in German, things are a little bit different. Soweit ich weiss, "gerade" in diesem Fall kann benutzt werden. Sie waren gerade zu Hause (aber jetzt sind sie nicht mehr) oder: Sie waren zu Hause, als ich verlassen hatte.
