I used to get a special cake at a bakery in my home town, champagne cake. It had custard in there too. I wonder if this might be similar. They were rectangular sheet cakes, so delicious. The crumb on the cake resembled chiffon, but it was always white. Place closed down and there is still speculation if the recipe lives on. Family isn't budging on it. So sad it will die, likely, with the man who baked it.
