- BLUES EARN VITAL FIRST HOME WIN
At the sixth time of asking Leek Town finally picked up their first home league points of the season to lift themselves away from the lower reaches of the table with an important 1-0 victory over lowly Blyth Spartans but had to endure a nervous end to the game after spurning a number of second half chances to make the win and scoreline a lot more comfortable than it was.
Coming into the game the Leek fans were reeling from the news of Olly Harrison’s transfer to big spending Hednesford Town, who seem to be trying to piece together last seasons title winning side after already signing Rob Stevenson and Dan Trickett-Smith from the Blues a case of ‘if you can’t beat them, buy them’.
It meant a reshuffle and change of formation as Leek manager Josh Brehaut went with three at the back, in Tom Curl, Liam Edwards and Ollly Heywood with Liam Buckley and Joe Woolley as wing-backs and a midfield of Adam Porter, Lucas Weir and Ollie Shenton with Tim Grice and Max Woodcock up front.
The 490 spectators witnessed a fairly forgettable first half as Leek tried to come to terms with their new shape whilst being relatively untroubled by an average Blyth side lacking confidence, although Joao Gomes-Carrington had two separate efforts on target that Dino Visser had to save which he did with ease.
