Very very well-done video. You made it interesting by not doing a countdown from 10 to 1 and by including all sorts of interesting related facts. I’m impressed, since I’m usually very critical of you tube videos!
I know that you are only including large cities, over a certain population, however, among small towns, my state takes the cake! If you Wikipedia Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.... there’s an entire paragraph about how gay it is. It’s pretty damn laid back and super fun too. I grew up going there with my family and I still visit there every year. I am straight, but the gay community there keeps everything so nice and the vibes are always so chill and positive. It’s really a nice beach and I know that people don’t normally think of Delaware when someone mentions going to the beach, however Delaware has 14 miles of beautiful, clean beaches and 7 miles of it is an undeveloped & natural protected state park area and the rest is dotted with cute little quaint beach towns with nice boardwalks and shops, restaurants and attractions. It’s super nice. And JUST north of Ocean City, MD (which kinda sucks!).
Maybe do one with towns and smaller cities included, there are many municipalities in those categories that are very high %. Provincetown, MA comes to mind.
The real percentage is around 10% most likely. I have seen a lot of gay people deep in the closet and their closet adventures make it seem like there are fewer gay people than there actually is. If you count those openly gay AND those who are still not open about it, it comes to around 10%. Then bisexuals can skew the statistics a bit too. It's easier to lead a straight life if you can find sexual attraction in the opposite sex even if you also find a sexual attraction to those of the same sex.
With the amount of women who have told me they are secretly bi and the amount of "straight" men who have secretly asked to give me a bj, I'm pretty sure 10-15% of the population has a medium to strong attraction to the same sex. 🤷♂️
New Orleans is a "party" town. I've got photos taken during Mardi Gras that I took because I didn't think anybody would believe this was going on in the street and on balconies. LOL. I'm not complaining. It was a blast. I hear Mardi Gras is more "family friendly" now. That's probably why it's dying. That's a shame.
I'd like to know exactly where these statistics came from, what questions exactly were asked and what the answer choices were, how the sampling was done, etc. Lists like this are fun, but usually the science is dubious and tends to confirm the bias of whatever group paid for it. From the gay male side of the question, back when I was better looking, my own experience seemed to indicate that the Kinsey percentages of gays and bisexuals were exceeded in reality - which would indicate that, unless there has been a drastic change over the past several decades, the statistics quoted in this video must be based on some very narrow definitions and some very dubious methodology.
Exactly.......how could Kinsey have discovered that the percentage of LGBT in the U.S. were 10% way back in 1948 and now only 4-6%??......Nah! Something’s WAY off.

You got that a bit wrong when it comes to the beginning of San Francisco’s lgbt community. It’s started in the 1800’s during the gold rush time; when men from all over the country came to California for the gold rush in 1848 which brought over 300,000 men into the state. Many of the men settled in San Francisco in which it became the start of SF being considered the lgbt 🏳️🌈 capital. My question is this: Were these cities ranked the gayest or the most full of LGBTQ folks? Because equating gay with trans, for instance, isn't accurate... though if the data was cities with the highest LGBTQ+ folks, then that's all inclusive. I live in Seattle's gayborhood and was glad to see it on the list.
That 4.1% figure is actually the most accurate. Various different studies over the last 60 years or so have consistently come up with similar figures. That 4.1% actually represents about 10% of the male population and about 2.5% of the female population. Taking into account that females are about 52% of the population, then gay people as a whole represent about 4-5% of the population. The reason that is feels like there is a bigger percentage of 'gays" than 4.1% is that 10% of MEN ARE gay. TEN PERCENT.. That's a lot.
Hi Nick! I was thinking it would be California? Some of the other States that were mentioned I didn't think they would be that highly in numbers. Thanks for sharing! Very interesting!
So I clicked to watch cause I saw the iconic Topeka, KS house but it was the pic used for Portland. I dont find that right. A picture from Topeka, KS is used to show for Portland.
I personally think all humans are inherently mixed with alien dna and we are all alittle gaylien. The more capable of humans tend to be less stable. So it is a weird myriad of hyper hypo and I think it is misunderstood larger spheres if influence in my opinion. I just think everyone needs to be nicer to each other and more aware. Like as long as you aren't hurting anyone who cares who you love etc.
I'm surprised Washington DC didn't make the list. As far as the overall percentage of gay folks in the population - I'm sticking with the Kinsey figure of 10%. It would make sense that that millennials are identifying at a rate of 8.2%. As the societal climate improves with each successive generation, the numbers should be trending upward until the Kinsey 10% is reached. We'll see.

San Francisco is welcoming to all except for anyone who makes less than 100K a year. I live just an hour North of San Francisco and despite having a progressive point of view, I actually hate San Francisco. I don't know why people are willing to spend so much money to live there when that City sucks so bad. It is impossible to park, traffic sucks although not always, the view of the bay is entirely blocked by Towers upon Towers upon Towers. San Francisco has some nice venues to visit, but I would never live there even if I could afford it. Oh yeah and if you do find parking, a lot of places require you to park in expensive parking garage at charges you like $25 a night. Not even in San Jose which is an even larger City do they have parking garages that cost so much. And one other thing I forgot to mention was that the pedestrians in San Francisco completely abused The Pedestrian right-of-way and they are constantly crossing the street when it isn't even their turn to cross and the car's turn to move. It's so fucking messed up
Grew up near Cleveland OH and Lakewood on the west side is known for 🏳️🌈. There's a prominent Catholic all boy high school over there that has sadly had its share of "backdoor" jokes and the like.
Grew up in Rocky River next to Lakewood. They always joked, if you found a quarter kick it over to River to pick it up! OmG I just saw Jill's comment lol and that was said in 60's and 70's And who wore white socks in Cleveland?
Interesting, I have been to them all and they are all great. SLC was still a tad too mormy for me though. I lived in San Francisco for a good portion of my adult life and as a straight woman, I LOVED it.
I didn't spend much time in SF in days gone by... I spent a couple weeks in the Haight circa 1973, and I visited a few times after, but as a straight male, I very much appreciated the straight women of SF.
I expected to see Philadelphia on the list. I also expected to see San Francisco drop considerably due to it becoming another silicon mecca and outrageously expensive.
Recently? Man back in 2005, after Katrina in New Orleans, Fema got us a place for a few months in Atlanta and I've never seen so many gays around town in my life... More than New Orleans! Must be a lot of down low folks in atl.
just saw your video...very educational and interesting...I live in Canada and i would be curious if there is a similar video here or if you would be interested in doing one...In Canada a cutoff city population would be about 500,000...so there's a few cities of note...Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver...any notes appreciated
My grandmother (born 1904) stated that the homosexuals ruined the word gay for her- it's how she felt for years- happy, lighthearted and carefree. Then after the 1960's and early 70's she couldn't say I feel gay today because people would think she was on the hunt for a female lover.
DON'T forget that Columbus Ohio has the highest gay population in the Midwest. It has the second biggest HOT MIX festival in the Nation second to sexy San Francisco and other cities. Because equating gay with trans, for instance, isn't accurate... though if the data was cities with the highest LGBTQ+ folks, then that's all inclusive. I live in Seattle's gayborhood and was glad to see it on the list.
Hello Erica
I would love to attend a gay pride parade in one of these cities 🏳️🌈

That 4.1% figure is actually the most accurate. Various different studies over the last 60 years or so have consistently come up with similar figures. That 4.1% actually represents about 10% of the male population and about 2.5% of the female population. Taking into account that females are about 52% of the population, then gay people as a whole represent about 4-5% of the population. The reason that is feels like there is a bigger percentage of 'gays" than 4.1% is that 10% of MEN ARE gay. TEN PERCENT.. That's a lot.
The video at 11:17 that is supposed to be about San Fran is actually downtown Boston (Trinity Church - you can see the sign right there) ;-)
Hi Nick!
I was thinking it would be California?
Some of the other States that were mentioned I didn't think they would be that highly in numbers.
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting!
It's per capita and there's lots of people there :)
We'll see.
How are you doing handsome man❤️
So many people in the closet too 😂 40% of the guys I meet on Grindr have a wife and kids and are sneaking out.
60%
Very interesting. And fun to watch.=)
Great video! Nick, your singing is improving. (I hope my standup routine is.)
Now, Karen Mappy: What is she? Metrosexual? LGBTQ-M? (M for "Mappy"?) And all along, I thought her motto was, "My strength is of the strength of ten because my heart is pure."
her motto is ME. and my singing is up and down depending on my mood frank :)
Thanks for making this informative video! Now I know which cities to avoid going to
I’m surprised ATL & DC are not on this list
No ATL?! ODD. Midtown/Morningside and East Atlanta were mad gay in '08 when i lleft
St. Petersburg, FL used to be primarily a retirement city. Idk what happened.
Much as I enjoy watching your videos, seems like I always look forward to your singing!🤗What a frustrated singer you are!🤣. But hey, pls don’t despair because for me your singing is like the ‘icing on the cake’! New subscriber here! 🥂🇨🇦
Belle - who is frustrated? Not me ❤️
Surprised Milwaukee Wisconsin isn’t on here
Jeffrey Dahmer ate them all
Thank you for that end statement
:)
What happened in Denver transpired within the last twenty or thirty years. I started noticing in the 90s that the parade kept getting larger and larger.
It's massive now!
There's something about cold bushy areas, lol
It's so fucking messed up
Sly88Frye it’s the energy. Something about the city draws people. Sort of like why so many people live in NYC.
i hate the cost of living in SF for sure. I have friends who left because of it.
I question your sources if this is purely city limits. Both Atlanta and Minneapolis are in the top 4 in terms of percentage for city population.
This is as a percentage of households and gay population
This was cool. Thank you for making this video. 😊
I'm VERY Surprised That You Ain't Got Atlanta, GA Or Columbus, OH On Here...
Hello 👋
I'm pretty sure Washington DC, Atlanta, and Chicago should be in the top 10.
Not Chicago
Grew up near Cleveland OH and Lakewood on the west side is known for 🏳️🌈. There's a prominent Catholic all boy high school over there that has sadly had its share of "backdoor" jokes and the like.
Well u know what they say, drop a dollar in Lakewood better kick it too cleveland before u pick it up.
@@jhill8036 😂 Im dead
Grew up in Rocky River next to Lakewood. They always joked, if you found a quarter kick it over to River to pick it up!
OmG I just saw Jill's comment lol and that was said in 60's and 70's
And who wore white socks in Cleveland?
U forgot Long Beach- Santa Ana floral park-Laguna Beach. Just say all of Cali!
Do you have a problem with morman's shannon? Tread carefully as your comment is discriminatory.
@@andrewreiss2811 I sure do. Your "cult" stole my niece Have a great day!.
I expected to see Philadelphia on the list. I also expected to see San Francisco drop considerably due to it becoming another silicon mecca and outrageously expensive.
Next video: The most gun cities in America?
4:46 A gay would not be caught dead living in flyover states unless they are born there lolol
B.S. Northern MN are littered with f@#$
Boy George’s song though 😂😂😂
Lol!!!
I want to move to San Fran but I’ve been hearing things that were not so great. Should I do it? I’m moving in four months.
Gender neutral gingerbread person? Gimme a break.
They had to do it for people kind.
@@itsokaytobeclownpilled2519 lol
There are those who identify as cats, unicorns, so they should be gingerbread entities.
they look good though!
Nick Johnson - I don’t care the gender, creature or whatever, if they taste good, who cares!
I believe that San Francisco is still #1., but lots in NYC, and recently, Atlanta.
Recently? Man back in 2005, after Katrina in New Orleans, Fema got us a place for a few months in Atlanta and I've never seen so many gays around town in my life... More than New Orleans! Must be a lot of down low folks in atl.
I can't believe, Northampton, and Provincetown both in Massachusetts was not on your list. Say WHAT?
He did say that he was only looking at big cities
Wilton manors, Provincetown, Palm springs, Chicago should also be on the list
Been waiting for this video
where do the Numbers came from ?
are there people Walking through the cities and ask everyone If they're gay ? 😂
I'm shocked NYC and Honolulu didn't make it to the list.
NYC has a lot obviously
NYC has a huge population thats y.... their proportion didnt match up but by #'s it is huge
YES! How could you miss NYC...not that there's anything wrong with that.
I was surprised Madison WI did not make the list. But at only 230,000 in population I guess it's not considered big enough for the top 10.
NYC is in the list
I loved this narration
I'm bi and moved to San Antonio 3 years ago. I need gay friends to hang out with.
I be ur friend homie 😆.
@@chantlmcclary6419 Great. I'm in San Antonio Texas bro. And you? I want to go outside and enjoy life.
Luis I would love to be friends with you
@@lovemypups3077 How can be ge in touch?
I’m adding a like and comment so I can help this video Reach Around the world
Ok
palm springs ca has waaaaay more gays than any of those cities on this list for sure!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That technically would be impossible, only because it's a much much smaller city, therefore a smaller population in general.
@@dherrer6294 per capita bozo
just saw your video...very educational and interesting...I live in Canada and i would be curious if there is a similar video here or if you would be interested in doing one...In Canada a cutoff city population would be about 500,000...so there's a few cities of note...Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver...any notes appreciated
How are you doing handsome man❤️
Yeah cause most gay in CONNECTICUT’s are married in the closet🤔🤔🤔
What Atlanta, Georgia didn't make the list, wow.
Desmond Williams media hype most transplants
same thing i said
Why Atlanta?
Lesbians are out here in ATL.
I'm Australian and I was surprised that Los Angeles CA wasn't top on this list, btw gay is fabulous 🏳️🌈
My grandmother (born 1904) stated that the homosexuals ruined the word gay for her- it's how she felt for years- happy, lighthearted and carefree. Then after the 1960's and early 70's she couldn't say I feel gay today because people would think she was on the hunt for a female lover.
Patrick I would love to be friends with you dear
🤣😂
Gay.....I do give them credit for contributions and fighters for equality.
I thought West Hollywood would be above Los Angeles or was it counted with Los Angeles too?
At 11:36 : You misplaced Birmingham inside of Mississippi.
Right
Lol I do that all the time get those two backwards
@@NickJohnson Don't worry Nick...you're not the only one. I get Alabama and Mississippi confused all the time.
DON'T forget that Columbus Ohio has the highest gay population in the Midwest. It has the second biggest HOT MIX festival in the Nation second to sexy San Francisco and other cities. Nina West is the Patron Saint of Hot Mix Fantasy Queens representative of Gay Columbus. She is the Goddess RuPaul's favorite.
Wow! I thought for sure Chicago would be high on this list! Halstead Street? ✌🌈😁
BTW......LOVE Karma Chameleon!!
It's like my favorite song growing up
