I go back and forth between thinking this album and Formulas as Morbid Angel's best albums. Some fans are adamant about the first three albums being their best work but I gotta say, Formulas and Gateways were Morbid Angel at their most creative.
Yup F and G are their best.
100 percent agree. So tired of people being stuck on Covenant and Altars. Yes they're great but Formulas and Gateways are so mind destroyingly heavy.

@@hereforthefreewater Gateways is my least favourite MA album. Just sounds slow and boring with triggered drums. Heretic is the most evolved / fastest version of the band, and EASILY the best Steve Tucker album.

This song is so fucking heavy, love the slow death metal style not like doom or autopsy... these riffs have heavy attitude, the drumming imo is my favorite by Peter Sandoval next to terroriser, there's good amount of groove to this song and still stays death metal as fuck, the riffs are exactly how I feel when I'm stoned!!!

I do love early Morbid. 1st three are so good I was there digging in when they were released.... But Formulas Fatal to the Flesh and Gateways to Annihilation are on another level.
For me this and "At one with nothing " from the same album are the pure,true,proper,the best death metal songs ever.

@@Psyxic_Crimes I like David too but he had too much of a different vision and direction for Morbid. I didn't mind Illud outside of 3 or 4 tracks but in all it was a disappointment considering Dave had been away for the last 3 studio albums it would have been a better reception and reunion if they came out with a similar sound to their earlier style albums.
To each his own then. At least its not Trey on vocals. He's a badass on guitar, and should stick that.
@@Psyxic_Crimes Just curious have heard any of the music by Genitorturers, that's the group Dave joined after Illud came out. Their sound is a direct rip off of White Zombie, which I do like white zombie but again that is seemingly the style that Dave is interested in making nowadays. Again nothing against it but Dave trying to get to get Morbid away from the pure death metal sound was stupid IMO.
