I'm totally agree with you about this art school. Yes you can learn anything online specially on TH-cam but, the amount of information and content available is more then I can bare. Forget about the distraction you get. Yeah, you can learn online and become great artist but, you have to be discipline.
True, honesty the amount of information available online is quite overwhelming especially when one is trying to find a chronological flow of learning.
FZD didn't close down, the landlord just requested an insane amount of money for the place they were renting for the school so they just don't take anymore students for the moment
Yep I am aware haha, I meant the physical school building itself no longer exists and the land is getting redeveloped. They could definitely open up again elsewhere.
It's always interesting to hear you talk about your works! As someone who doesn't come from a visual arts background hehe, when I look at your pieces I find I can imagine so clearly what it would feel like to be *in* the space - the coziness, the fascinating props like eye candy, how the worlds feel so lived in, what kind of characters might walk through the door. Your art is such a wealth of inspiration. Beautiful stuff, as always 🥰

From the perspective of someone who went to a 4 year art college instead of an intensive one like FZD, I feel like my pros and cons would still align really closely with yours. While I’m on breaks, I’m usually practicing the fundamentals I didn’t get enough time to learn fully or going back into projects that I had to turn in without being 100% happy with. I think that’s just art school in general, you learn the bones of what makes good art and then it’s up to you to make sure it sticks and run with those skills to become a professional 😅
Oh really? Thanks for sharing. I would’ve thought a 4 year course would allow more time for things to sink in but I guess you would still be constantly absorbing new content.
@@niatora It’s probably content that’s way more spread out than FZD taught it, but they definitely still bombard you with assignments to where it’s hard to really process what they’re trying to teach. You’re more worried about losing your grades than improving your skills sometimes, it’s a tough balance!
@@arthoe123yeah totally get that, but sadly as an academic establishment sometimes schools are forced to create ways of assessment. In the same boat though, tryna revise all the stuff I learnt previously! Best of luck to you on your art journey :)
It is kind of strange that FZD closed down. I get that Feng is at a different place then 15 years ago and has no time to teach himself but it still feels strange

enjoyed watching the video! must have been such an amazing time learning directly from a master like feng and the other teachers at fzd! it was a dream of mine to go there too but could not afford it, i did manage to learn enough myself to make it in the industry in the end tho :) also, your work is great and so is your hair ! haha

Glad you followed through with this review! It’d be interesting to see what your peers’ portfolios look like. You’ve got a distinct RuneScape 2023 style in your fantasy worlds that I dig. It touches nostalgia nicely. In unlearning the academic aspects, do you feel that FZD gave you tools to efficiently find your own style or does it focus on churning out a style that’s established and hirable?
You continuing your tattoo pursuit next? Sounds like you’ve got a few irons in the fire. Would love to see the dev vlog. If you pursue social media and TH-cam, always happy to nerd out about how to make a career online. There’s a ton of potential in content and you’re already ahead of most in your narrative ability, especially in the awkward position of talking to a camera in an empty room to yourself lol. I fucking hate talking to a camera 😅

Also from what I know these days, FZD has shutdown during 2023 and the closest to it is now Mages Institute.
I've done some research and there are FZD teachers teaching there as well and some other notable people too! *wink* *wink*
If you're totally cool with sharing, what's your personal experience at Mages and how does it compare to FZD?
I've been wanting to do an intensive concept art study for 1 year and sadly FZD vanished so I'm looking for the next best thing :) (even better if it's online since I live so far away at NZ! :c )
Hi! The Mages curriculum is designed to have the same fundamental values as FZD with updated design process and workflow. Kingston is leading both concept art and game art programs, you can check out the curriculum in depth on the website mages.edu.sg/program/art/concept-art-diploma/ :)

Maybe a touchy subject but as an international student myself (if I were to attend FZD school) it would be really helpful to get a cost breakdown in terms of tuition, rent, and other living expenses. These all look really cool, even the ones you don't like have a lot of cool elements in them!! If you redo the bowyer's cabin, you shouldn't leave your bows strung as it ruins them. (Wood and sinew bows, modern materials are usually fine)
Also, not everyone can afford motivational screaming from Filthy Frank..... I have to go watch his Kancho video now, kills me every time, also it's free thus affordable. :')

Thanks for watching! Some I modelled some are downloaded or modified. We just use 3D as a perspective base to draw over :)

Your videos are always very informative! Do you know what's going on with the FZD TH-cam channel? They haven't uploaded since 2022 and Feng isnt very active on any of his socials, the website also hasn't shown any updates, the school is still functioning right?
