I HATE how so many sewing machines have slotted screws everywhere

@@sewway I my experience allen socket screws are better than slotted screws or cross head screws. You need a quality set of drivers and cheap soft L-keys and and screws should be avoided. Actually I avoid l-keys in general, personally I like the Wera hex plus allen screwdrivers, they have a modified profile that puts more of the driver surface in contact with the inside of the socket.
Torx screws are the best but I haven't seen small setscrews in those only the larger ones. Some pfaff machines use almost all torx inside except for the setscrews which are still slotted. In addition to their resistance to stripping what I really like about torx is there is no metric or standard, all torx screws regardless of type use a common set of drivers.
Cross head screws are just a hot mess, there is phillips, JIS, DIN and ISO standards all slightly different and e.g using a phillips driver on an ISO standard cross head will chew up the head (phillips is ment to cam outy when over tightened, JIS is designed to NOT cam out ever). At least going the other way (ISO in a Phillips) while less than ideal is still much better. It's always safe to assume if you have somthing made in Asia or Europe and it has cross head screws it's probably JIS or ISO. Technicly DIN-7985 and JIS are retired and ISO 7045 is supposed to be a backwards compatible replacement of both. ISO 7945 is "good enough" in JIS but it doesn't have the totally slop free fitment than a JIS driver has in a JIS screw head. Further confusing the issue is that a lot of drivers sold as "phillips" these days are actually ISO-7045 and it can be difficult to impossible to find out exactkly which standard they really are. The cross head screw rabbit hole goes pretty deep which is why I prefer to just completely avoid it if I can.
