tip 5 (unmentioned): have no social life... like me :)
That should be the easiest one to accomplish 😃
i feel seeeeeen😩
Loll this is the first thing I tell people when they ask how I read so much
💀💀 balle perdue pour moi
Real
another tip for me that worked is:
think about when you're most likely to read (after waking up, in bed at night, etc.) and consciously cut out a time frame where you read. for me that is before bed. i get ready for bed, get cozy, catch up with messages etc and then consciously put my phone down and start reading a book.
if you're a mood reader that might not work, but for people wanting to start or get back into it it can be helpful to "force" themselves in the beginning, until you realize how fun reading is :)
Yesss! I do this as well .. even if it’s quite late at night I try and read at least a chapter!
For me im reading a book series that had a tv show made inspired by them so i listen to music from the show that give the vibe
will do!! i hope this works for me
I could listen to you talk about books all day long.
Also totally agree with anyone can be a reader. I used to never read because my brain couldn’t always focus on what’s on the page, but that can not only change with age but with finding something that actually interests you! Same goes for don’t be afraid to DNF. I always go back and forth with debating whether or not to DNF a book and if I can’t decide….it usually means I don’t want to finish it lol.
Tip 4 (DNF) is key for me. I don't tolerate books that thake longer than 20% to get good.
THIS! It’s taken me a while to get comfortable with doing this but it’s so liberating to be able to DNF a book I don’t want to read so I can read something better!
I’ve never understood the “stigma” around audiobooks with people saying it “doesn’t count”. The way I look at it, you’re still absorbing and digesting the story so therefore you’re reading it. Also when I read my voice reads it aloud in my head if that makes sense so audiobooks basically just do that for you. I don’t know if I’m making sense 😂 I personally can’t focus on audiobooks so they don’t work for me but I love that so many people are able to read when otherwise they wouldn’t be able to because of them i.e. people with certain disabilities, people who have a lack of time to read etc.
I’ve been reading over 100 books a year now for 4 years and all of the tips you’ve given are exactly the tips I would give and have used! ❤
Edit: Chronic pain/people who have any illness/disability that causes you to need to be in bed a lot , a kindle with a popsocket on it is a game changer, I can read while lying down comfortably! Also download the kindle app onto your phone, I don’t always carry my kindle so it really helps me to just pick up a chapter or two while I’m waiting for something if I can just take my phone out and read 😊
Another thing I do to help read more is I have a little timeframe where I read everyday for example, at around noon I'll grab my book and read 50 pages and before bed read 50 pages and it takes me under an hour to do so. It helps me get through books pretty quickly with reading at least 100pgs per day. I also find that I'm able to read an ebook on my kindle at the same time as a physical book (I have a rly hard time reading 2 physical books at the same time) and I just add my ebook reading time to my regular physical book time and read 50ish pages of that too so I can read even more books 💜
I never like to fall asleep with your videos because I actually like to listen to you and what you have to say, but this video, the sounds and the mic scratching were super tingly, I literally had to fight the sleep away 🫶🏼
Here's what I tell people I know who talk about wishing they "had time to read" but they can't find the time: if you just replace 30 minutes of scrolling social media a day (which we all spend way too much time doing if we're being real) with reading that equals approximately 13 average sized books a year. Breaking it down like that really makes it more digestible for some people.
Yessss Libby through my Public library has changed my life forever
The audible kindle combo is the only way I can read enjoyably as someone with ADHD. I have to set audible to 1.5x speed to hold my attention too
You inspired me to get a kindle and kindle unlimited at the beginning of the year and I’ve already found a book series I love! I’m trying to get into reading as a lil goal for 2024! 💖💖
🎧🎧This video inspired me to tackle my goal of reading more this year!! You’re amazing ♥️
Your reading/book content is one of the only times I’ve felt motivated and inspired to read a book. I’m not much of a reader but I want to get into reading because of you/your vids!! 🤍
Last year i really started reading audiobooks. I ignited my love for reading even more and changed it completely. Ever since i got sick, I can't read as much but i still can listen to audiobooks❤. Always love your book videos ❤.
My only downfall for audiobooks is that you have to like the book and the narrator. Some narrators are amazing but others can completely ruin a book for me.
yesss! some audiobook narrations are gorgeous and showstopping and others are terrible. it really depends!
I love the tip about diversifying what you read. I used to get stuck in one genre and books kind of felt all the same. Your book ASMR is sooo satisfying as a fellow reader
i also think reading multiple books at the same time has built up my ability to read more books. i seemingly never get bored when i have multiple stories on the go
Up close, slow whispers with gentle mic brushing is my FAVORITE omg I’m melting listening to this on my lunch at work rn
*editing to add to my comment & not spam the comment section:* 🎧 I completely agree on trying new formats and genres & that everyone can be a reader. AND DON’T BE AFRAID TO DNF! 👏🏼 Yes. I used to be like “no this is criminal I absolutely cannot *not* finish this book”-yes, I can. And you can. There are too many sick ass books that exist (and that are yet to exist) to read to waste your time reading one you don’t like enough to continue.
Audiobooks have been a game changer for me. I was able to read 2 books in one week using the Libby app. I put them on while I’m driving. It’s perfect because it makes the drive go by faster plus I don’t get distracted from the book because I’m not tempted to look at my phone. I love this because when I commute to school I don’t have to carry the extra weight of a book with me either.
this video is very much needed bc i want to be able to read more yk oh and bc your videos are always entertaining x
Nothing better than a good ol mic brushing to help me go to sleep!
love this!!🎧i love listening to audiobooks when doing chores & commuting 😍
I love the feel of a book, the smell and sound and experience of a book, but I have to admit carrying around my entire amazon library of 1500 books that I can read anywhere and put in my pocket, with its own lighting no less is hard to beat.
I would definitely recommend to limit your screen time. It can easily take over the time you actually could read. Shift priorities🤖🎧
I got a kindle for Christmas and its upped my reading so much but before that i used apps on my iPad. The kindle app (which you can still use if you don’t have kindle unlimited. There’s a bunch of titles if you have prime). Libby and Hoopla are also great. I prefer hoopla because they also have sooooo many titles and you can read them immediately but Libby does have more popular titles (like Sarah j Maas and forth wing) but you have to wait in line to borrow them. Still both great to use interchangeable!
loved the video!! you are so inspiring❤️🎧 gonna read now:))
I will read and have the audio book play so almost read along and it's helped me regain focus in order to read on my own haha
It’s borrow box in the UK that links to your library card 🙌
🎧 🥰 loved these tips! I really love switching between kindle and physical books and when I really love a book I end up buying it in both formats 😂
Thank you sooo muchhh Haley for all the tips and tricks on how to read more from you!🥰♥️. This ASMR video really gives me great inspiration and motivation for me to read more💗🩷 and the binaural whisper ramble + gentle mic scartching makes the video really calming✨️ and very relaxing✨️. I love today's asmr video Haley🫶💗🩷. Ilysm 😘💘💘💘 🎧🎧🎧
Thank you for this 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Have you ever had a book hangover? And if so, how did you get over it?
its the year of dnf girlies!!!
No way you actually did a video about this didn’t expect that 😭 thanks xx 💋
My library uses both Libby and Hoopla and you can get both audiobooks and ebooks! 😊
I noticed two things you do that I’m too rigid (I guess is the word?) to try - 1. you will sometimes read multiple books at once. 2. You aren’t afraid to not read every book in a series or read all of the books in the series. Would you say these two things help you read more/faster? Or just a preference?
oh those are great ideas, i should have considered! i personally love reading 2-3 books at once in different tones/genres so if im not in the mood for romance one day i can swap and read my thriller instead (or whatever!)
as for skipping books, only if the series are able to be read as standalones- then yes! definitely. i love jumping around depending on my mood.
i think that both definitely help me read more, but they are more complicated strategies so they may not work for everyone.
I always have multiple books going on at the same time. To me it’s the same as having multiple tv shows.
🎧🎧🎧So true about switching around genres. I was reading too many thrillers before and then decided to read ACOTAR, which made me enjoy reading so much more
I miss listening to audiobooks. I listened to the whole twilight series on audiobook when I was a kid. it's a core memory
Hi Haley, just wanted to drop you a quick book rec! Since we all know how much you love the Folk of the Air trilogy, I wanted to ask if you had read The Darkest Part of the Forest, also by Holly Black. It's one of my favorites from her, and unpopular opinion, I may have enjoyed it just a little more than Folk of the Air. It's a standalone set in the same world as the trilogy, with an even smaller romantic subplot. However, I would highly recommend reading it if you haven't already!
Love her recs❤❤❤
🎧🎧🎧 i'm excited to read more this year, thank you for the tips!!
Today I started reading these hollow vows by Lexi Ryan and I'm already one hunderd pages in. I'm probably going to read more today. This book just has me really invested!
Thank you for the tips - I'm aiming to read one book a week this year, so I need all the help I can get.
On track at the moment, but it's early days.
Wow!
Australia’s alternative to Libby is BORROW BOX!! I use it alllll the time, I’m not sure if it’s just Australia or not tho 👀
It really annoys me that in the UK you cannot connect libby to your kindle so therefore you cannot read any ebooks borrowed from the library on your kindle. I hate reading on my phone so I stick to audiobooks from there!
It’s the same here in Canada, which is why I have a Kobo instead which works with library books
My husband(30) hadn't read a book since high school and has always hated reading and school work in general (pretty sure he has dyslexia). Last year he read 15 books by listening to audiobooks at work. I will fight anyone who says audiobooks aren't reading.
If you are a person who suvers a lot w migraines then audio books are also rly good bc reading often gives me headaches 🥲🥲 but I never tried a audio book
I bought the 100 book series last week and ive never been a reader but im already on the second book and cant keep away 😂
I’ve had some libraries that use Hoopla and some that use Cloud Library instead of Libby but Libby is the best
personally i just won’t read for 2 months and then suddenly read 4 books in a week and then repeat the cycle
I need to start DNFing without guilt. Ive noticed that refusing to let myself DNF usually leads to me having reading slumps
I love Ever and aka Scribd , Hoopla, and Kindle unlimited is amazing for E books and audiobooks!!!!!
Do you read multiple books at the same time and switch back and forth or just stick to one at a time?
Yes, Libby is game changing 🫶🏻
i literally live on libby
12:36 omg I completely agree! I’m new to daily reading so I tried murder mystery (the mother in law by Sally Hempworth) and I’m flying through it. 💗
love love love all the tips you gave! i could hear you talk (especially about books) for hours on end 🎧🩷
Tingles and tips thanks :))
GIRRRRLLL the dark hair 😮💨😮💨💓💓
Can we get an updated kindle tour please?
🎶Having fun isnt hard when youve got a library card! 🎵
I love It 😊💗
going to try my best to read while listening to this and not fall asleep. wish me luck
Hi Haley Jean ❤❤❤
Ouuuu dis good, I need disss
omg girl did you dye your hair darker ??
“Audiobooks don’t count as reading” doesn’t exist in 2024 to me lol I was an audiobook op growing up cause I’d fall asleep but since I have a to stare at a computer and can’t physically read audiobooks are the only way I can read cause I don’t want to stare at my kindle when I’ve been staring at a screen for 8 hours straight
yess exactly!! being able to read without straining your eyes is the best LOL

Libby is the best!! I also just joined Books-a-trillion and it’s actually amazing…a one time $50 fee for unlimited, permanent ebook downloads. I’ve already added like 75 books lol.
