This is the first time I have ever seen Chen hua. Heard a lot about him in the 60s' when I was in Malaysia. His voice in unrivaled. I can't imagine having this opportunity to listen/watch his video in the U.K. Thanks to you. You make me a very happy man. Keep posting.
Hi, after viewing the full version of this title in the Cantonese opera by their diva Hong Si Ni, this recorded portion of the story brings out the excellent performance and singing of Chen Hua and Hong Mei. I have been watching this recording and many others shared by Chenzlin. Thank you for the great job!
I don't think the three stars ever made a full recording of these opera. Btw, I think this performance was taped probably in the early 80s after China opened up to the world. By then, Chen Hua and Hong Mei were slightly over their prime. Their vocals were best during the 50s and 60s, but then during the Cultural Revolution years (1966-1976), I believe all opera performances were outlawed and many of these great actors suffered badly under the communist during those turbulent 10 years. Sad.
I was fortunate to see him live in the mid-80 when he came with the Canton Hainanese opera troupe to perform in Singapore's National Theatre. I think most overseas Hainanese only heard of him through his limited recordings. I remembered that evening when he first appeared on stage, there were great excitements among the full house audience.
I am just as addicted as any of you, fans of Chen Hua and Hong Mei. I can't thank you enough chenzlin for your contributions in uploading such great classics. And a BIG thank you to Deng Xiao Ping for opening China to the world as otherwise Chinese operas would not have had the opportunity to be revived.
Yes indeed. Before opening to the world, China was like North Korea today, nothing but worshipping their "Great Leaders". Thanks to TH-cam that these great classics can be revived.

Not surprised by that 'side-effect', for what you watched is a classics of classics.
Also, I think the UN should declare the vocals of Chen Hua & Hong Mei a UN World cultural heritage :)

Ya, thankfully we now can post these great recordings on TH-cam and the like, otherwise many of these treasures would never see the light of the day.
