    The new Jaguar logo is absolute dog poo. I can’t believe someone paid money for that. No effort has been put into that. What they had was iconic. Not for any historical reason, for a visually recognisable reasons. They’ve created a new font, not a new version of a brand. Should have done it in Comic Sans.

    I'm so glad S&S get what I've been trying to say about the Jag rebrand this whole time. Jag wouldn't be rebranding if their business strategy was sound and making them loads of money. The fact of the matter is that they weren't doing well and that is why they're deciding to move upmarket and stop losing at the German Big 3's own game.
    The impassioned "Jag enthusiast" in question in most of the "debate" has been either a middle aged bloke who got his X-Type off of its 3rd owner for £1500 on Gumtree, an older gentleman who did buy his XJ new... 15 years ago, or someone who has never owned a Jag in the first place. None of those people have legs to stand on because none of them were at the face of it, mattering to Jag at all except maybe their parts and servicing department. I'm yet to see someone who bought a F-Pace or an I-Pace in the last 2 years have anything to say about this and besides I'd FAR rather see a """"woke"""" Jag build EVs that look cool and do alright off of that than see them slowly fade into the dustbin of history providing a middling range mostly consisting of forgettable soft roaders which is the only other way they'd realistically stay afloat.
    I should add that I also don't have a horse in the race either, but I do trust that this will probably work out. The market they're going for with the marketing of what I can only describe as "Selfridges People" are the market that Jags used to be sold to. People who are monied but try and appear all progressive about it and are VERY MUCH driven by "vibes" and "design" above all else. What also helps is that their German rivals for the most part have utterly bottled their EV attempts with one or two models being exceptions.

    Try something radical. Probably the right approach. But in practice that's a grim font "JaGuar" lol. The video is generic "bold" and "brave" from about 2005. An EV jag will have no tech advantage over anything else and little heritage/history to differentiate it from Chinese Dishwasher companies that will soon be selling EVs. I'm all for radical approaches but this is mostly crap

    Everything Richard said about the Jaguar rebrand is spot on. It’s just a teaser and a logo - wait for the cars. So much of the criticism has been dog whistling for homophobes and racists. They’d probably haven’t yet gotten over the previous rebrand from SS cars either.

    Richard talks absolute sense about Jaguar. They have a massive image problem. My father in law who could afford one & went on a tour of Brown’s lane raved about it. I asked why h hasn’t got one & he described them as too flash. (Admittedly he’s a Volvo 240 guy). My wife says, whenever I bring them up, they’re an old man’s car. My personal perception is I’d love the idea of an XJR but would probably buy a BMW over one or a Porsche over an F-type because I’d assume they’d be more reliable etc. I don’t particularly like the logo but the ad I have no particular feelings on but that’s fine they’re not aiming at me. Arguably they should just stick a Range Rover badge on the card as it seems you could sell a turd with a RR badge

    RE Jag, yes doing something radical is cool and probably needed, but doing it in such an absurd stereotypical 'woke' (I note you avoided the term :D) vibe way which is so at odds with the Jag stereotype (Clarkson's Jaaaag etc) was I think a bad call - even young people are turning against this stuff now.

    • @Munkenba
      @Munkenba 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nobody uses the term "woke" unless they want to tell everyone how many hours they burn on braindead podcasts/facebook groups, it isn't a remotely sophisticated or specific lens of analysis. Presumably you come to Smith & Sniff for more than a tabloid understanding of the topic but if you don't, I'm sure Piers Morgan will cover it soon, wait there.

    Richard you're entirely wrong.
    I've been buying Jag's since I was 20. Owned an E-type, XKR, XJ40, XF, X-type...I'm in my late 30's now.
    I'm actually their core - repeat audience. I actually bought Jag's when they were around.
    In every single decade since they've existed Jag have done something remarkable, even if you can't appreciate it.
    I won't buy an EV, and I understand the dog whistle of the teaser. You can pretend you don't, but we all know they're trying to shake off old white men.
    Thing is...gen Z will never buy a Jag. Ever. I would've, repeatedly, but now I won't.
    Trying to set a tone that's young because your core buying audience is old, is fucking stupid.
    It's like Metallica saying oh no...all our fans like metal, it's too niche, let's make a K pop record because it's popular right now. No K pop fan is going to buy it, and when they've finished pissing about they realise all the core fans are gone.

As a consumer of Jags old and new, I am concerned for their future as starting again as EV only is very risky in the current marketplace, but I do wish them well and will judge them on the quality of the cars they produce.
