    Excellent, I'm glad Aubrey is active again! More people push this forward is better. When we can reverse aging to be young again, we don't need to see ourself, family and friends suffer from all kinds of age related diseases anymore and enjoy a healthy old age.

    Ever since the Nobel prizes were awarded to Japanese and British researchers for reprogramming of adult skin cells back into stem cells, I realized that there's no "clock". If there's no expiration date then this opens up the possibility of slowing down or maybe reversing aging. People used to live up to their 40s but nowadays doubling that is common - likely due to improved sanitary living conditions in modern homes.

    • @chanplaypool5703
      @chanplaypool5703 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anti aging is a complex topic and this has many approaches similar to diet fads. In order to avoid fads, I will state my anti aging principle in general terms: Do everything to minimize damages such that repair can happen at a faster rate. When this happens, one grows younger.

    Excellent topic. Longevity has to be considered in the context of dramatically reduced population growth or even shrinkage (e.g., Japan and now China), automation/AI, the sustainable energy revolution, and even Mars colonization, or F.U.D will block the funding and exploration of the necessary work. Also, popularization of the L.E.V. will trigger more and more people to pursue healthier lives now --- likely reducing the health care costs of aging much quicker than people realize. Let's get 'er done! ;)

    • @trojanthedog
      @trojanthedog ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well spoken, Ken. This is part of a bigger situation. Keeping boomers alive, active and healthy can help mitigate much of population decline that's coming. Later everyone will factor a much extended lifespan into the goal setting.

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ken, thanks. I am with you, though we know (pretty much, though the details change) what is required for a healthy life but people still make unhealthy lifestyle choices. Even though this will impact there last decades in life it does not seem a sufficient incentive to improve the lifestyle. Hopefully expectations of LEV will add the needed extra incentive.

    • @tomu4725
      @tomu4725 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's dangerous about that? With LEV it'll take far longer for the population to decline in the future, at some point itll be darn close to a crawl. Maybe people will have a mental crisis over what to do with their lives, but I think more and more people are enjoying life without having children.

    • @ModernHealthspan

    We absolutely Do NOT have to worry about overpopulation. What Aubrery didn't comment on is, along with the amazing biomedical advances, it also takes a dedicated healthy life style with 5 pillars. Those are, 1. a healthy diet (there is no consensus on what that is), 2. continuous movement and exercise, 3. good sleep, 4. the capability to mitigate or reduce stress and 5. not continuously poison ourselves with a toxic environment. Not more than one or two in a hundred people come anywhere close to that. Worse, 9 out of 10 won't even quit smoking when they're told they will die with the second heart attack if the don't stop. A rare few will actually do the work - and they will reap the rewards!

    I'm very excited about this research. But I do worry greatly about the income inequality that we have now. So many "first world" places have sectors where people suffer " 3rd world" conditions. I fear that many rich people will have these treatments while everyone else dies off in a Hobsian scramble ... fighting over breadcrumbs

    A big worry, is that whenever it comes along, it won't be on time for people that the 'Lucky' ones care about. If you are a child today, and make it to this future, will your parents or your grandparents who you care about make it?? Also life will still be fragile, how will people cope with the death of a partner, a child etc if for example you live for an indefinite amount of time??

    Being convinced of the primacy of the problem of aging and death, we should, if we grant our conduct to its certainty, drop everything to devote ourselves to anti-aging and anti-death propaganda.
    Move heaven and earth, move everything in the world, starting a movement, looking for money, creating vocations, what do I know... It's worth the effort, isn't it? It is even the only game that has ever been worth stirring.

    I wonder what impact would a dramatically expanded lifespan have on the youth ie those below 30. Birth rates would probably drop even more reaching the point at which being young will be as rare as being 100 today. Pretty much a reversed population pyramid. Something tells me this will prove alienating to the youth. Imagine a world in which everyone is fit and young looking but you're the only one genuinely young. How do you relate to someone who looks 20 but is actually 200 as a true 20 year old?That future sounds scary for youth. The future may look good for the olds but the young ironically not so much. Imagine being taken seriously in a society in which youth is irrelevant as a work advantage. What's the point of drafting new players in the NFL if your old ones are just as fit? Sounds like an interesting sci fi story premise.
