Jacob Collier: Summer Rain guitar transcription playalong

This is a full play-along video to teach you how to play Jacob Collier's new song, "Summer Rain" from Djesse vol.4, featuring my transcription complete with tabs, neck diagrams and fretboard view. This performance is from Union Chapel in London on August 31, 2023. It features Madison Cunningham on vocals and Chris Thile on mandolin.
This concert appearance was the first time that Jacob, Chris and Madison had ever performed it live as a trio in front of an audience. That's why Madison is reading the lyrics from her phone. If he releases an official music video, like he has done with "Little Blue" (Mahogany Sessions) and "Witness Me" (Roof of the O2), I will follow up with a full, in-depth tutorial of that official final version. My transcription is based on this live performance, not the album version, since the guitar is not prominently featured on the recording.

Given that Jacob's guitar only has five strings, he is in DAEAD tuning. The rest of the world can use DAEGAD. Check out my Jacob Collier Chord Voicings tutorial (link in description) for more info on how to translate what he does with his 5 string to your 6 string. 👍

I just released a cover of Summer Rain on my channel, and the main guitar part is entirely based on what I learned from this video. Couldn't have made it without your expertise! Nice work! One question, what transcription software do you use to sync up the tabs and the video/audio?

Thanks so much! I use guitar pro 8. You have to import your audio, set where your bar lines are and then I make a screen recording of the scrolling playback. 👍

Thanks for your feedback! I just checked and you are correct! 👍 Adding that h/o was one of the last things I did, so I've fixed the entire bar. Funny thing is, with Djesse vol. 4 being released last night, I listened through the new "Summer Rain" and was preparing to see what elements to incorporate from the studio version before officially licensing and releasing the transcription. I've grown really attached to the live arrangement but I'll see what else there is to add to it.
