I found that playing as woodie, if you are clear cutting a forest as the werebeaver form, and a poison birchnut tree spawns, you can chop them down pretty easy before they have a chance to spawn in the little nut things or whip you too many times if you immediately make a B-line for their trunk and start chomping. Minimal damage and the usual reward. But, if multiple spawn in close proximity, it's usually best to run and come back later.
While I was playing with my friends. I once found a tree gaudian before winter. Used pinecones to calm him down. Coming winter the deerclops popped up and some hounds with him. The hounds ended up killing me. Deerclops killed all the hounds. I then had this great idea with my friend and told him to bring out the tree gaurdian, because I wanted to test something out. While the tree gaurdian was fighting it out with the deerclops, I decided to haunt the tree gaudian. Fun note, apparently haunting a tree gaudian levels him up, so it was a maxed out tree gaurdian fighting it out against deerclops. When deerclops killed the gaurdian we got 6+ living logs and also clould easily end the deerclops. All it costed was my life.

Poisoned Birchnuts are so fun playing as woodie, all you need is 3 bites and it will go down, you can chop it before it can react, the poisoned tree even makes a despair face.
As a Maxwell main, I normally have at least one Shadow helper active at almost all times (barring when I'm looking for a fight). This typically includes the logger. As a result, I never really have to worry about tracking living logs down, as my logger ends up spawning so many treeguards! The best part is that I normally am not assisting in chopping, so the treeguard is only aggroed on my shadow puppet. This allows me to almost completely ignore them if I'm not wanting to take it on at the moment. It's great!
another way that could potentially help spawn the treeguard faster is if you main Maxwell and use your shadow loggers.. they always spawn unwarranted treeguards whenever i use them..

Piggys can punch the poison trees directly, so you just have to order them to do so while you take care of the little birch and get the seed before they eat them... I find that if you’re Wendy, Poison Birchnuts are a great source of Twigs and Nuts. Just let Abigail handle the Birchnutters and maybe chop down the Trees themselves if you feel like it.
The first time I encountered a poison birchnut tree was on my first world with my sister. Poison Birch trees do not become pacified in regular dont starve. Instead they become regular burchnut trees that can be chopped for the same loot they drop.
In my early days I tend to get about 5 pigs to help me chop down a forest. Any time I have done this the Treeguards spawns. I also tend to run away and let the pigs kill him, or the pigmen TRY to kill him, I normally end up with a lot of pig skin/meat

in the recent game of DST my friends and I just started.. we where on day 4 when we managed to spawn 4 Treeguards all at once-all in the same forest and all beside eachother. We managed to kit them away to the rock desert and burn them all!
Here is a small tip for anyone playing Wendy the Poison Burch Nut Trees minions can be stun locked by the ghost and then you have a lot of saporlings to plant for a close by tree farm
Is there a way to "capture" treeguards? Like have them agro on you, then lead them to a pen made of stone, or wood, or marble, and then pan flute them into losing agro. Then just have a bunch of them trapped in a pen for your needs. So like when the badger and cyclops comes around, you can lead them to the pen. Is this possible, or even worth it? Currently, for me, I'm on day 300, and I have about 20 treeguards walking around, so it's difficult to chop anything, and when I need badger to clear forests for me, they destroy him after only a few trees.
You can pen them in with just simple wood fences. Also, be sure to remember to use bosses to clear them out and or agro them, walk them far enough way, plant pinecones or wait for night for them to de-agro.
That's just how it is, some days I'll chop the whole entire forest and not even one single treeguard shows up, and the next world over, I look at one tree funny and bam treeguard shows up and loraxe's me into the undead plane of existence
I always get treeguards during that time of the game where you have no weapons/tools/food What do they call that again? The start. (Random tip for when you get a treeguard early game, lead it to a swamp or pig village. Tree guards de-agro you if another creature engages them.)
Playing this with my friend, I'd use birchnuts as a big part of our food supply in the crockpot and these things would decimate me lmao kinda funny tho, we yelled HEEEELLLPPP and frailed around trying to survive
me and my friend were just exploring in the world and I was wortox, he was maxwell, since he had 2 choppers, he summoned a tree guard and we killed it but dang that man is strong, he never hit my friend tho, I think he hit me once but I was a-ok, after the fight he told me "I was on 1 hit ko" idk if that means treeguard does more then 75 damage or he was just low hp.

Same and I tried to kill it but it was before I knew about kiting so I died lol
My first treeguard spawned on day 4 on my first save file
Yup, pretty much.
Great vid as always beard!
:D
Your videos have helped me so much! Thanks!
Glad I could help! Keep on keeping on!
I always get treeguards during that time of the game where you have no weapons/tools/food
What do they call that again?
The start.
(Random tip for when you get a treeguard early game, lead it to a swamp or pig village. Tree guards de-agro you if another creature engages them.)
me: chops one tree*
tree guardian: and i took that personally
I am in love with your channel!!! Thanks for making me a better player! Love from Mexico 💖
You are very welcome! I am glad we could help!
Playing this with my friend, I'd use birchnuts as a big part of our food supply in the crockpot and these things would decimate me lmao
kinda funny tho, we yelled HEEEELLLPPP and frailed around trying to survive
Yah I always get that tree spawn in the desert and think, the hell are tree guards doing here.
me and my friend were just exploring in the world and I was wortox, he was maxwell, since he had 2 choppers, he summoned a tree guard and we killed it but dang that man is strong, he never hit my friend tho, I think he hit me once but I was a-ok, after the fight he told me "I was on 1 hit ko" idk if that means treeguard does more then 75 damage or he was just low hp.
You can try to recruit 3 pigs to help you chop down the poison birchnut tree. Cutting that damn tree becomes super easy
Me and my friend based in the Oasis biome at day 8, and the first thing that happened when i chopped ONE of the trees there, TWO POISONED BIRCHNUT TREES SPAWNED IMMEDIATELY. Do the Oasis trees have a higher chance of spawning birchnut trees?
