Beautifully said about Jennifer Brooks - I still go back to her channel and watch old videos too 💔 I'm reading Far From the Madding Crowd and I'm loving it! I vaguely remember reading Tess and wasn't that keen... but this one might even be a 5* read for me!
@@sesame135 I am so glad that her videos are still there for us to go back and watch, she seemed like such a beautiful human and it was so fun to listen to her talk about books. 💜 I am so glad to hear u like far from the madding crowd more than Tess! I’m hoping I feel the same way! Haha
I miss Jennifer so much I watched her all time. I just couldint believe it when her mom posted that video. Definitely will be reading a Wilkie Collin’s this month.
I read Jane Eyre in middle school for a book report and it ended up being my favorite book for years. Now The Count Of Monte Cristo is my favorite classic, followed by The Woman In White by Wilkie Collins. (I’m currently reading Anna Karenina and enjoying it)
I have read all the books you mentioned. I loved them all. I have a love and hate reading relationship with Charles Dickens and I happily say that Dombey And Son is my all time favorite from him and is in my top 5 Victorian classic novels. 😊
I just rewatched some of Jennifer and Alice's video's. I just finished The Sign of Four and am in the middle of No Name. I want to get to Silas Marner and East Lynne.
Great video! Your explanation about your relationship with Dickens is exactly like mine. I want to like his writing and have several of his books, but I’m not convinced that I can like it. I love your Jennifer Brooks comments. Yes! So sad and I have rewatched some of her content as well. My favorite Victorian books are probably Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. Mostly for the atmosphere. I’m also wanting to pick up Wilkie Collins’ The Woman in White and some Anthony Trollope (for the religious tone). I loved Madame Bovary so I’m hoping to enjoy The Doctor’s Wife too. Happy Victober!
@@hollyc4624 happy Victober to you as well!! The Brontes are always fabulous and yes, LOVE the atmosphere I’m almost done with the woman in white now and I have been really enjoying it so I would totally recommend! And good luck to us both on our dickens journey ! Haha ⭐️
Looks like a good list, Mckenzie! I'm hoping October will be a productive month for me. I'm looking to finish a writing project this month, so that's pretty awesome. Latin studies are still going well, though I need to find a better way for memorizing the vocab (any possible tips you may have would be appreciated). That's my little update. Hope to see more vids soon!
Ooh Wuthering Heights is my top favorite... I've reread that book more than any other ever, I think! But another atmospheric gem is The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm a sucker for a good moor, apparently lol.
looking forward to Jane Eyre which i expect to be my new all time fav!!!! Honestly not sure if Jane Austen is part of Victorian period -_- but also getting to Persuasion this Victober!!!!
@@JordynWise-f8j I love and support all of your reading plans haha I believe Jane Austen is regency but honestly, tomato tomahto lol Persuasion is such a gem ⭐️ I hope you love everything you read
Get hyped bro 🙌 I love the Brontës. Since you like Madame Bovary, I'll recommend Like Death by Guy de Maupassant. He was a student of Flaubert's and you can really see it in this short novel. I loved North and South; I really should read more Gaskell. I CERTAINLY need to start reading Eliot and Collins. I miss Jennifer too ❤
I'm just going with Silas Marner, because I already started three books that are everything but Victorian. I think I've only read about fifteen Victorian books, but my favorite is Wuthering Heights. I love unrelenting misery in my stories 🥲.
LOVE The Woman In White! Moonstone actually bored me so I put it down and didn’t go back to it (by Wilkie Collins). The Law And The Lady wasn’t bad though (also by him). But by far The Woman In White is his best novel by a mile in my opinion.
My favourite Victorian novel is 'Jane Eyre' - l've just watched an older version (1969) of 'An Ideal Husband' with Jeremy Brett which was great fun, it's my favourite Oscar play.
I am almost half way in The Mill of the Floss and enjoying it so far. I really want to get to Mary Barton by Gaskell and The Return of the Native by Hardy. I also would love to listen to wuthering heights and north and south but idk if I can get all that in!
I’m only reading one or two books for Victober - rereading Wuthering Heights and possibly picking up The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. My favourite Victorian novels are Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure. I have a difficult relationship with Dickens too but Dombey and Sons is one of his better books.
