It’s still not clear if boos are the ghosts of dead people or if they’re just « born » as ghosts. Luigi’s mansion 2 says that all ghosts come from this placed called the Paranormal Dimension, which King Boo rules over. Although that game came years after SMW, so it’s safe to assume that in SMW, the boos were supposed to be the ghosts of enemies who died because of an airship crashing.
Little did Mario know, every Goomba and Koopa he stomped on would haunt him. Their overwhelming sense of hatred and sadness compelled them to follow the one who murdered them.

At least Mario knows how it feels to be around ghosts like Luigi & Knuckles does. Luigi's obviously in the Luigi's Mansion series & Knuckles was in the 2nd Zone act of Sandopolis & the Sonic Adventure 2 levels where he needs to find 3 keys & deal with the King Boom Boo.
That Big Boo looks very scary. If I woke up in the middle of the night and saw that Big Boo and this music started playing. My bed would quickly become a bath of piss.
Nintendo should make a new ghost house track for MK8, very dark with few lights here and there, big Boos slowly appearing and disappearing everywhere and, of course, with music kickin in. O.O
