Hi Paul! Thanks for showcasing the latest Penpot updates. We’re excited about the release of the new plugins system! To gather feedback and encourage contributions, we’ve launched a plugins contest. If you have plugin skills, don’t miss out: entries are open until December 15th.
Hi Paul, I'm a passionate Penpot enthusiast and have even created a few basic tutorials in my native language for it. It’s exciting to see influencers like yourself bringing well-deserved attention to Penpot-it’s fantastic to witness its growing recognition! One feature I find myself missing in Penpot is a variables system similar to what Figma offers. I truly hope this functionality is introduced in the future, as it would significantly enhance the platform's versatility. Thank you for creating this introduction video-it’s a great way to help more people discover and appreciate Penpot.
I agree, I'd love to see that introduced and also look at collaborating with framework devs like Core Framework to introduce more workflow options for designers and developers.
@@WPTuts Actually the variable system is currently under development in collaboration with Tokens Studio. I've joined the group of beta testers a few months ago already and have played with it, it is very promising and should be available to all users in the near future !
What I like the most about Penpot is the fact that it serves both worlds, the designer and the developer. Having a hybrid software like Penpot and getting used to it worth every minute of your time. Of course, it's like with every new piece of software, you should play around with it, get used to it and use it with your next project. Thanks, Paul, for another jewel out of your great video tutorials.
I agree - it's great to have a tool like this available and for free. I love to see alternatives to the 'big names' who can bring more options to everyone, regardless of their budget.
@@WPTuts I am a friend of self-hosting and open source software in general. My list of favourite software is almost 30 entries long, so there are a bunch of great tools. Not all of them have to do with web dev though.
This is awesome! Great to see FOSS competition for Figma. If they ever go down a bad route, we have a really good looking alternative. Thanks for sharing this!
I don’t think you gave Penpot enough love they deserve in this video. You mentioned plugins being space in availability, but do keep in mind that functionality just released this month, part of the reason for the contest. Also I haven’t done it a lot, but every figma file I have dragged into the penpot interface has opened just fine for me to use. What are your key features for sticking with figma, since you mentioned there still some things that can’t be done in penpot?
I don’t think I was unfair on PenPot at all. I said in the video that while there were few plugins right now that they are running a competition to get people onboard to create more and grow the platform. As for what do I think is missing in comparison to Figma, it generally depends what you’re trying to do. But the one big difference is the community and resources available which PP currently doesn’t have. I don’t see that as a negative per se, but it is an important consideration for user adoption. All being said, I think it’s come a long way since my last look and I have confidence that it will continue grow. 👍
@@WPTuts Thanks for making this video, you were actually the one who made me discover Penpot 2 years or so ago in a video where you presented it as well as Lunacy. Since then I switched completely from Figma to Penpot for all of my projects, and with the huge improvements that were made to Penpot this year it really became a solid alternative that deserves more recognition and visibility !
After hitting the file limit in Figma, I tried out Penpot and it worked out really well. Short learning curve and I can manage without some of the plugins I’m used to having in Figma. I think this tool will eventually blow up and become a serious viable alternative.
Nice, the most important reason not to use penpot for me right now, is the lack of third party support, like plugins (coreframework). BTW how do you set up Webstudio builder local or on a server. I tried to do it, but couldn't get it to work..
@@webdesignburgdorf3028ACSS is a very amazing alternative, and it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t have a figma integration to support variables from one tool. Like coreframework has.
If Adobe had actually bought Figma they would probably sue the living heck out of Penpot for being so inspired by Figma. A good thing they have not I guess 😂

No problem and good lucj with the new addition - I look forward to seeing how this grows and expands over the coming months. :)

Can't say enough good about penpot or the brilliant people behind it!
Great to hear that Jason :)
It blows me away all the amazing open source tools available. Thanks for sharing and highlighting.

There is a file limit in Figma?
@@Line49Designon the free version, yes.
Nice find Paul..Will try it today.
Let me know how you like it. :)
Penpot is great! Thanks
Personally i dont feel limited by the free tier in Figma yet. But should i ever, then this seems like a great alternative
Waiting for your video on SCF "PRO"! By the way, loved this one!
@@akshaysrivastavaofficial you mean my thoughts about it?
@@WPTuts LOL, your use of it as an everyday tool! :D
@ I won’t be using it as I don’t support or condone what MM and Automattic are doing with ACF.
@@WPTuts I know. I was just kidding. In any case, WP is ruining its ecosystem's future for sure!

Core Framework would be phantastic, as would be ACSS!

Definitely good for us, the consumer. :)
Limited .. nooooo
Limited, in what way?
