  • Thank you all in advance for watching my video. This year I was able to fulfill my wishes in completing puja (prayers) to Lord Ganesh, Maa Lakshmi, Maa Saraswati, Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and Mother Durga. Thank you to my family, friends, and viewers for the endless support and the kind words. It is because of you all that I am able to do what I do. I hope to continue to bring many people together through my videos, through my pujas, and many more celebratory times. Jai Shri Ram!
    With lots of love,
    Matthew

    The most striking bit about a Caribbean Hindu puja as opposed to what they might do in south India is the flag raising. I follow a puja procedure laid out by the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham (India), and there’s no explicit yes or no to using flags in a puja. But I also do have a red flag for Maa Durga.

    Jhandi word derived from Sanskrit ?

    • @matthewsguyanesecooking4601

      Jhandi is derived from jhanda meaning flag. This is a puja (Hindu prayer service) technically. However in Guyana it was locally termed Jhandi in reference to the flags we raise at the end of the service.

    Who is kalsa? I’ve never heard of that god or goddess before. Not Hindu btw

    • @matthewsguyanesecooking4601
      @matthewsguyanesecooking4601  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kalsa is not a God or Goddess. "Kalsa puja" is just a term used when referring to the kalsa (decorated vessel), parai (the small saucer on top) and the diya (the earthen lamp that we light on top of it). There are many differing beliefs and meanings that come when doing kalsa puja. The diya on top that is lit is a representation of Mother Lakshmi and for us when we do kalsa puja it is a representation of Varun Dev who is the God of the ocean and sea (hence why the kalsa is filled with water).

    • @KitKat-yj8hr
      @KitKat-yj8hr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 thank you for the in depth response. So just to confirm you can use the kalsa for any god or goddess worship. My question now is if you are already doing a puja for goddess Lakshmi, do you also use the kalsa for her as well, or would it be then used to worship a different god/dess? I was told the kalsa is used for more personal prayers not family is that true?

      When did I say something like this? Not that it is any of your business what anyone chooses to eat or not eat. I do not eat beef, I cook it for friends and members of my family who do eat beef. And I do eat pork once in a while. By posting these videos, it is not for me to show that I am this "perfect" Hindu, but to showcase my culture and love for my religion. Not everyone in my family is a Hindu and I also need to cater to a wider audience of people (not everyone who watches this channel is a Hindu). Please be aware of what you are saying before you comment.

      @@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 No need to be defensive. I was simply making a statement based on one of your earlier videos. Not passing judgment as we are all human and not perfect. Just keep in mind that when you put yourself on a public medium such as TH-cam you will be looked at under a different lens and be called out if someone flags an inconsistency. Guyanese and West Indians in general can be negative with their own community just don't take it personal if some says something you may not like or agree with.
