    Not trying to start something, but I know a question like this can easily ignite, but I'm curious why archery has a mens and womens division. These women are more than capable to compete with the men and vice versa, and I think it would create a much more dynamic competition

    • @barebowprincess259
      @barebowprincess259 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Men and women do compete together, but realistically at the higher levels of barebow there is a notable difference in scores. It does take a certain amount of strength, bone structure, and endurance to draw and hold a recurve bow steady. I would like to point you to USA 2020 indoor finals which had no women, Vegas 2020 top barebow flight only had 2 women, or pull up World Archery Indoor World series and compare the top women's and men's barebow scores. If we want to encourage young women to participate more in archery they need female role models and an opportunity to feel successful, which is hard to find if the podiums are dominated by men.

    • @viceywicey
      @viceywicey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Men tend to have higher draw weights than women on average. Higher draw weights means more energy into the arrow, and higher arrow speeds, which decreases the effect wind conditions have on the arrow. If we assume that all other things being equal (the form remains exactly the same between each shot), a male archer will have a higher degree of precision when the wind is factored into the shot than a female archer. The draw weight range for women is 40-48 pounds and for men it is 45-55 pounds.

    • @peterxyz3541
      @peterxyz3541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you use statistics, average out the top 100 men archery in the world or America & average out the top 100 women in the world or just America, there’s still a consistent difference between men & women. Higher pound draw ability offer a tiny advantage, in theory. At the elite level where 1 point spread is enough to win, that 50lb men draw vs 45lb women draw is an “advantage”.
      For the rest of us common mortals, the lowest national ranked -anyone- can kick our butts! 😂
      Your asked the question others have asked.

      I'll be honest with you, it is actually suppose to be okay. Archery is one of, if not, the most gender neutral sport. People are just stoopid cuz they think this sport requires strength from the draw weight of the bow. There's this thing called "adjusting". Women are known to be smarter and more adjusting than men so yeah, they could've

    This is archery the way it was meant to be. "Recurve" is ok, but all the tripod stabilizers, sights, and nick-nack-patty-whacks are getting to be a bit much.
    Plus, when the crowd moans if an archer gets an "8"... It's time to strip the bow of paraphernalia. Let's be honest, it's not a rifle.

      And let’s just burn all compound bows while we’re at it...I get it, you like to see archery done in a more pure form. There’s nothing wrong with that. But to say that barebow is the way archery is “meant to be” is just wrong. I shoot Olympic Recurve and can tell you that our accessories help us, but by no means make us shoot like a rifle or have perfect precision. They only help to raise the level of competition. To think archery should only be as basic as possible is just ridiculous

      @@cameronsenay882 My First bow was a longbow. My Second bow was a Compound. My Third bow was an 'olympic Style', complete with clickers, sights, stabilizer, and all the gunk. My Current bow is a recurve with *a string* . Much Better Now.
      And yes, the junk hanging off bows these days is not Archery its purist form. Far from it. It doesn't make anyone more competitive. It can't, because everyone has the same junk hanging off their bows too. Crossbow anyone? That's not more competitive, right?
      *It's the Archer who is the competitor, not the equipment.*
      And yes, barebow is the way archery was meant to be. The first selfbow was a bow and string. All these millennia later: barebow is a bow and string. So yes, it is an empirical reality that barebow is the true archery the way it was envisioned and implemented for centuries. (Only the materials have changed. Which is fine by me. I have wood AND magnesium bows. But it's Archery: no laser sights, no crossbows, no form-compensating dampers or stabilizers. And that's how true archery was, and thankfully, that's what it continues to be thanks to barebow and selfbow practitioners.
      [I still watch 'olympic style' recurve. But it sure would be more interesting if they stripped-off those gizmos. But then the Accessory Manufacturers would throw a tantrum] ;)

    • @cameronsenay882
      @cameronsenay882 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@onebylandtwoifbysearunifby5475 That’s all well and good but approaching archery with accessories as pieces of gunk is a logical fallacy. They do raise a level of competition. Otherwise Barebow scores and Olympic recurve scores would be far more similar on a top level. The technological advances have raised the capability to perform better alongside the human element. Again, they aren’t like rifles (although crossbows might as well be, and frankly I don’t consider that a form of archery). Think what you want, but claiming that additional parts on a bow is too “unpure” is just silly. There’s a reason the Olympics aren’t shot with stickbows. It wouldn’t be competitive or really that entertaining. All sports are going to modernize over time. And truly if you want archery in its “purest” form, you should despise the modern equipment barebow shooters use today.

      @@HephyOnYT 70m is one of my permanent targets. It just takes practice man, if you dont put the time in you wont hit it. I can't hit it every time but can and have multiple times. Im sure if would be incredibly easier to do that with all the training wheels people use now. Also in a team competition the barebow scores generally dictate which team wins. The other competitors hit 9s-10s all day with all the enhancements they have on the bow while the barebow a 7 8 9 10 is all a good hit and the scores vary widely thus making it the more integral part of a team. So having a better archer with a barebow means more then getting a better modernized archer since no matter the skill at competition level the scores dont vary all that much comparatively.

    What does barebow mean exactly? at 9:12 that looks like a sight just above her right thumb.. and the other competitor at 9:20 I don't see any sight, but on her bowstring it looks like she can guage by that orange wrap near the nock. Does this mean you're allowed to choose one point of sight, but not two?

    • @barebowprincess259
      @barebowprincess259 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is not a sight. What you are looking at is the back side of a plunger. It is not even in the sight window and can't be used for aiming as it's on the wrong side of the bow. You aim by looking down the arrow. Barebow has a plunger & rest. No sights, stabilizers, clickers or draw checks of any kind.

      The reason why it's not, and why weights and that are allowed, is ostensibly to allow people to shoot with less expensive bows. You can make a bow that's heavily weighted and the tiller is specifically set for string walking. It will be just an engineered as a modern bow, but it will look traditional. And, really, it'll all be an expensive illusion. This is more inclusive, allowing archers to shoot well with anything from a $200 bow to a $1500 bow.
