    Beautiful voices aside for a moment, I can never get over how full-sounding they make the arrangements with just that one bouzouki. Ethereal talent.

    Flipping great musicians, mild and gentle fellows, When I was a young lad I went to see those most brilliant Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and band and other wild rocking bands, after those gigs/ concerts I would be float on clean air for weeks and months with not could worry or trouble on me, The music of Phil Lynott and Rory music was all the fuel that I needed to live, God blessed Phil & Rory

      I think their ones are Indian; saw a post that they buy them from music shops in Southall, London (home to the punjabi/sikh diaspora). They are a very common sight in religious contexts in india, from sufi muslim shrines to sikh gurdwaras.

      @@prangbro i’ve heard from some Irish musicians that they trace the traditional music back to the Indian Subcontinent. I know enough about History to not take it as gospel, however, the thought of a common origin is both interesting and can be heard, at least to my ears, even without the use of this instrument:)

    • @prangbro
      @prangbro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@michaelduff4474 well the Irish and other Celtic languages (Welsh being the one I know most) do apparently share some striking similarities with Sanskrit; but then so most western European, Indo-European languages. It's also true that the language of the Roma is directly related to North Indian languages, but not the Irish travellers (who carried so much of the Irish musical tradition and stopped parts from dying out). I reckon there's something in it, but at the same time it can never be more than speculation really. I've heard similar things about the relationship between North African music and Irish music, which is certainly convincing when you hear some Irish-language songs and things like keening for the dead.
