I am an Orthodox Christian from India. Last year I visted Met. Antony Blooms tomb at Brompton Cemetery. The cemetery being vast, it was almost impossible for me to find the tomb. I prayed and made the sign of the cross and requested God to help me. Immediately, two aged men passed by and I enquired about the tomb of a Russian Bishop. They said they knew a tomb with Russian inscriptions, but did not know whose tomb it was. Thankfully the tomb they guided me to was the tomb of Met. Antony Bloom.
I saw this interview on Roy Bonisteel's show Man Alive way back in 1973. It blew me away completely and ultimately led me to learn more about Eastern Orthodoxy and become Orthodox . I have never regretted that. I have told others about the effect of his words on me, and have often wished I could see that show again . Thank you so much for posting this.

Wow! What a great interview. I'm a brand new Orthodox Christian, and this is the first time I've had the privilege to hear Metropolitan Anthony. What a man of God. Hearing him helps to strengthen my faith in Christ and His Holy Church.
*A few touches to the interview.* Metropolitan Anthony passionately loved his homeland Russia, but he lived almost all his life in France and England. By education, Metropolitan Anthony was a doctor, he graduated from the Sorbonne University. He was fluent in Russian, English, French, German. Metropolitan Anthony was unmercenary and gave away everything that was given to him. Often he ate only what grateful parishioners brought him. He was a man of a deep sense of humor and knew how to laugh at himself. He was a modest watchman in the temple and cleaned it himself. Metropolitan Anthony didn't write a single book of his own. All books are based on recordings of sermons by his volunteer assistants. All his life people came to him for help and he did not refuse anyone, taking them for many hours. Even non-religious adults, when they first met him, often began to sob with feelings. Metropolitan Anthony could become the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1990. There is also a very famous BBC interview with Marghanita Laski, on the basis of which the book was published. I think that until now his personality has not been appreciated today.

The icon at the beginning is the one used for confession, I saw him on TV as a child in the 1960's . I always remembered him saying that he no one enters his room behind the Iconostasis . So when I finally went to the Church in the 1980's I was always aware that he would retreat at the end of the Liturgy and greetings into solitude. He was also the Church Warden and received £800 a year to live on, not much even in those days! He brought many to Christianity, and think still does! xxx

Mega dittos, especially on your thoughts. I am a Roman Catholic, since birth. But, I always find a filial love towards Metropolitan Anthony Bloom, who is clearly a Saint that has walked on earth. What a depth of profundity, humility, and pastoral Christian mansuetude this Holy Man possesses! Be it this video or his two-part exegesis on "The Prodigal Son" you can see his measured, thoughtful, noetic and deep-plumbing words of theological wisdom, literally carrying you away, no matter, how many times you watch them. This cannot be the words of an ordinary man. Which is what makes me bear this filial attachment to him, no matter what.
Suffering serves the purpose of GOD, Who helps us to give up our pride, to deny ourselves, to take the Cross and to follow the Lord Jesus Christ ! It is what helps us to separate from our ego ! To help us get rid of our passions !!!!! We cannot love and forgive perfect if we still have passions !!!!!!! The suffering is the best way to get rid of our passions and to get the TRUE LOVE AND TRUE FORGIVENESS !!!!!!!

It feels as if the interviewer was try to trip up and trap Met. Bloom the whole time, but it is clear the Holy Spirit was giving Met. Bloom the words because the interviewer could not argue you with or attempt to discredit anything that was said. Just as when Christ spoke to the pharisees, their mouths were wired shut and they were made to look utterly foolish in the presence of Truth Himself. Memory eternal Met. Bloom, I pray to meet you one day if I am worthy after my passing, to thank you for the wisdom you imparted onto me through your video series.

Interesting point:" Pure Love is God" so you are missing out the Divinity which connects us both. Further and perhaps a note on the different forms of "Redemption:" while I was called to Lourdes in France to help sick people (who obviously "suffered"), She i.e. the Mother of God:our Lady of Heaven, who always leads one to Her Holy Son Jesus, in the earlier part of my visit by a "unique type of vision thing" showed me or certainly illustrated to me there definitely was and is the higher Realm of Heaven- this was done by a sort of "spiritual revelation vision" which absolutely indicated without a word the Truth of what I just text there, honestly! Further there does seem to be varieties of variables concerning : "suffering" and "love"! It is not about a different group getting it right or wrong! It is about understanding that God asks us to Love Him and one another, and thus in so doing the "process" itself, and God, certainly teaches us both "suffering "as well as "love!"
