The wood used in lumberjack sports all gets recycled and use for heating/fuel purposes. In the grand scheme of things, the amount used is extremely small worldwide. Keep in mind that appropriate forest management is a priority for all competitors. A tree cannot live forever, but a forest can.
Actually, trees don't produce most of the oxygen we breathe. Photosynthetic organisms in the ocean produce about 75% of the oxygen we breathe. Terrestrial plants account for the rest. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Also using wood for pleasure is not all that bad. My guitar is made out of wood and it gives me much pleasure. :)
Lol it's such a funny sport! I don't mean that in a critical way, I think it's really cool, I just never would have thought that something like this exists! Haha awesome, thanks for the vid.
With an association I have planted many trees yes... And Yes I use wood, for my needs, not for my pleasure. Trees make oxygen, They are the lungs of the planet. Respect the nature and it will respect you.
Interesting I must say that I prefer the classic finnish technique hakkaleinnen over the canadian. nevertheless it's nice to see roger is still in the game and going strong. The axes used in the video also seem a bit dull is this because of the camera or is it to further enhance the experience as a viewer? Furthermore when can one see Wilson Oakes in one of these tournaments he imay
well im glad you don t completly diagree..i mean i dont agree with wasting ..but if we need it, then i think its all good...your right about the wood chopping cometition...i mean look at all the wood they are wasting while there are so many people who wish they could afford some lumber to build something with..i hear ya
There is a difference between use some wood for our need and cut up some wood for pleasure (endless debate, kill a duck to eat or for the pleasure of killing...)

logging, forestry, forest management and lumberjack sports have been part of our North American heritage for over 200 years. Enjoy the competitions.

Where I'm from, most of the wood I've dealt with is beech, oak or maple. How much difference does it make, swinging at (guessing) white pine?
There’s nothing worse than stringy wood affecting the performance of your faithful chopper.
They call me "Splitfoot"
haha.

Lumberjack sports have been around for several hundred years and millions of people watch live and filmed events annually.
A great show in St. Stephen New Brunswick and the most commented piece of video is about a guy with missing teeth.
Wilson Oakes is probably going to dominate the entire lumberjack area in another 10 years when he is 25 it will be interesting to see!
Standing on log you are cutting seems like a good way to twist n ankle

@tigerlax20 Just another fan of lumberjack sports.
Make fun of it if you want to, but you can't do what they do. I challenge you to go out and just split a piece of wood on your first try.
