Wolfdogs Rolling in the Snow!

  • Why does your dog roll in something stinky and gross, like a dead animal or poop? It's because of your dog's wolfy ancestors! Wolves roll in scents to share information with the pack. Rolling in canine poop is a great way to communicate to the pack that there's a stranger around their territory and to be on the look out. On the other hand, rolling in a carcass tells the pack that there's a yummy treat nearby. Our wolfdogs do this instinctual behaviour too, and it is a great form of natural enrichment for them. There's nothing better than rolling around with your legs in the air!

They are beautiful animals, wish they could be left alone in the wild. My dog rolled around like that when she was a puppy, once it was really gross. Keep up the great work, you're all heroes.

Thanks for the comment! All of our wolfdogs at the Sanctuary were bred in captivity and came to us as rescues so they wouldn't survive in the wild. We greatly appreciate your support!
