Slight couple of points... the Fly is composite over the neck and up the back of the body, but not the front (rather than literally all over). Hence there's natural or thru finishes on some on the front, but never the back, that's always painted on a Fly. Also Nitefly and Fly trems look the same from the outside, but Flies have flat springs in compression with the tension wheel etc, but Niteflies are more "normal" round the back with regular trem springs in tension. That little black button is the stereo/mono switch depending what cable you're using, so not on/off, but kills the piezo signal if you send it to the sleeve of a mono jack. Great video though! 👍
Man, I used to have one and played the thing to death and ended up selling it. I’m currently looking to get another one. They are ridiculously good guitars!
I get what you’re saying about the overtone resonance completely. No other guitar has this phenomenon than a Parker. I think the combination of the basswood neck and carbon glass epoxy along with stainless steel frets is the key.
I've never seen one on sale, but if I see one I will snatch it. Amazing instrument, perfectly crafted and easy to mod (which is an issue with other models)
@@EricBourassa Not really. My guitar teacher has a bunch of Parkers, including a Parker Supreme (or a Mojo, I can't remember) and I've picked up a Fly Deluxe (SUPER light btw) but couldn't play it. The good thing is that the Nitefly is one of my teacher's personal collection guitar, so I know it's awesome for sure hahahaha, as soon as I get the guitar I'll tell you how it's for me (if u want obviously)
@@frankifran5335 definitely! Keep me posted. I did fail to mention in the video that the nitefly is also super lightweight like the Fly. You’re going to love it
@@EricBourassa I hope to get it as soon as possible, but i'll probably get it after summer, but I'm trying to get a Parker PM-10 so I can talk you about that one too!
Ouch! That's a pricey Nitefly. Fair play to you for buying it though. Very nice! FYI the Fly is not totally covered in Carbon Composite. The Face and sides of the Guitar body are exposed/painted wood. There is a grub screw on the bottom edge of the trem body (Adjacent to the High E string slot) that you can tighten to grip the Trem Arm. Just be careful not to crack the Bushing - they are a bit of a weak point. As you mentioned, your NF is fitted with non-standard pups. That's probably how the electrics got screwed up. If it bothers you, fit your preferred set of HSS pups. I think a Dimarzo AT1 in the Bridge and a couple of (Bridge) Cruisers in the Middle & Neck would be an epic combo. It works magic for Andy Timmons! Oh and it's Pie-Zo BTW ;-)
I get what you're saying. I have a Yamaha super strat that i completely re-modded, unfinished body, new trem and pickups...and some notes, when you do vibrato, will go into harmonic territory easily, which is now one of my main criteria to choose a new guitar. My Prs Custom 24 does the same, but with every notes.
Always been a fan of those guitars since CKY. Great review! Wanna modify 1. If you get a chance check my patented fretboard invention. The only limitation is full bends unless you do partial grooves or just use it as a backup guitar/ sound fx. The FretCorner plucks the string to add extra notes to pulloffs and new pitch modulation. Keep at it. Maybe you review it if your into the concept. 🎸🎶
Thanks for the video! I have a 1998 in great condition but during a repair several years ago, the repairman LOST two of the little stainless steel bb’s in the piezo and replaced with lead bbs on the high e string. Tbh it still sounds amazing but would love to get those originals back. Any idea where/how to find these??
Okay I think harmonic overtones happen when a string vibrates normally pinch harmonics are what you do with the guitar pick like ZZ Top natural harmonics are are played with a finger barely touching the string over certain areas of the fretboard like the 12th fret for instance. Thanks let me know if I'm wrong.
Those don't look like original pickups. And the bridge pickup appears to be a single coil P90? I have one of these in SSS configuration with Dimarzio's.
The one I had (NFV2) was a great guitar, but ultimately wasn't for me. I loved everything about the design and carbon elements, but I couldn't get on with the SS frets and flatter board. I bought it for 600 and sold for 700 shortly afterward because I needed the cash. Even though it's not a guitar I would use as a primary, I still wish I'd kept it just because everything on it was so cool and thoughtfully designed.
Wow I'm seeing them 2k-4k on reverb. Who knew. So if you were to have invested in them a few yrs ago, be a great investment. What would be a good investment guitar today I wonder?
8:05 It's Italian, so it's pronounced "PYET-soh", two syllables, and that soft "t". People say "PIE-zo" like applie pie or "pee-AY-zoh" and that makes my skin crawl, but no... Italian. Latin-based. A lot of musical terms are Italian (glissando, legato, solo, mezzo soprano, etc) so it makes sense this is also.
@@saiyamang5397 no of course not. What I’m saying is I’d rather spend $1,400 on a nitefly or $3,000 on a fly OR nothing. I personally wouldn’t spend $700 on a p38. I would just not buy anything at all. But that’s me. I’m used to top of the line instruments now and buying a lesser version of a guitar usually is not very satisfying for me
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I find the tones about equal in Niteflys and Flys (at least when the pickups are good- I didn't like the aftermarket bridge and neck pickups that came with this Nitefly). In my Parker Fly videos (th-cam.com/video/iOImCGZqeXs/w-d-xo.html), I think you'll hear they sound quite a bit better than this Nitefly. That's been my experience.
As a Nitefly nut, it pains me that they are now so expensive. But I already have my stable so I'm happy they are being recognized.
And they are hard to find too! Glad you already have your stable. Would hate for anybody to be trying to build a Parker collection right now lol
🙂

doing a vibrato on those frets is just amazingly smooth and Really allows for nuance in your expression

The phrase I have heard for the harmonic overtones in certain spots is "pinch harmonics".
