    I'd recommend isolating each bed with walls that have fortifications carved in. That way, if you're dealing with a werebeast outbreak, you can put them in the beds and wall them off, at least until the following moon. It keeps them quarantined and protects the innocent.

    THANT YOU! You just saved my miner.
    I pulled a coddle and had him dig a channle over the living courters, causing a massive cave-in.
    He requiered extensive surgery, pools of blood are every, but he survived and is already back on his feet.
    I was vary fortunet to have a surgen migrate in two minutes prior to the accident.
    The video was vary helpfull, now I got to get back to walling off the cave-in zone.

      Perhaps the proto-fortress I'm building for the next video can evolve into a let's play of sorts. It revolves around a neat concept that I'm considering making the norm in my forts.

      @@Tekkud Not to rush you, but I'm excited for that new video. Any idea when it'll release? Also I notice the hospital isn't on the ground floor. Is it a tower you're building or some kind of fortress in the trees type concept.

    I like to see such game mechanics videos! You probably didn't say about how the medical skills influence on a patient.
    In a next video you might say about how many plant tiles you need to grow in order to avoid overproduction (my forts had thousands entities of plump helmet and quarry bushes which slowed my FPS).
    What I've already found out by experiments:
    - any plant planted by a legendary farmer grows to a 3 units-stack (in average).
    - 12.9, 6, 3, 3, 5, 7.8 - it's how many stacks in a year do one tile of certain underground plant give (ph, pt, sp, cw, qb, dc respectively).
    You just need to know how many times in a year do dwarves drink, eat, sleep and change clothes.
    All the information above might be useful in calculations of farm plots sizes and food production planning in general.

    • @M.Makart
      @M.Makart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two more inconveniences of overproduction:
      - almost all the drinks and food are made of one source. And dwarves don't like monotonous food.
      - many food hauling jobs.

    • @Tekkud
      @Tekkud  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's not a bad idea. I have been thinking of the next "advanced basic" topic, and farming could be it. I spent most of an afternoon dialing in my production and setting up overstock sinks, so surely it's worth sharing.

    2:15 To save you a wiki trip: a traction bench is made in the mechanic's shop, with R, from 1 rope, 1 mechanism, and 1 table. The quality of the components doesn't impact the result, only the skill of the mechanic. And it's a good enough way to use crappy tables.
    3:25 Speaking of thread... hospitals are the only place where dwarves will use hair. Hair results from butchering animals with fur (cows, yaks, horses, mules, reindeer, the occasional Forgotten Beast, etc), and is _technically_ a form of thread, although it doesn't have an entry in the stockpile, and can't be woven or used in any other way. You only have 3 options: let it pile in butcheries forever, atom smash it periodically, or create a dump zone in the hospital & dump it there so dwarven suturers will (sometimes) pick it up and use it for sutures. Options 2 and 3 can be used in parallel :)
    3:45 The '1 bar = 150 units' also applies to metal bars, which is how melting metal objects results in fractional bar outputs. This knowledge won't impact you in any way, and is basically useless trivia.

    Hospital tip: The amount of beds you need are equivalent to the amount of dwarfs you expect to get injured. I know that sounds obvious, but think about it. You have one or two beds for "accidents", then one bed per dwarf in the military. You wouldn't need more than that, because if you're in a scenario where all your squads are down and more dwarfs are getting injured, then the fortress is probably lost.
    Another tip is to place all of your beds in little "cubbies" in the wall with a door blocking them off from the main room. See the diagram below
    #######
    ###O###
    ###┼###
    This is a precaution against lycanthropy. Dwarfs who survive a were-ostrich attack can be locked in the room, preventing further infection.

    I've heard that tables and traction benches should be next to beds, so that when a resting injured dwarf is moved for surgery, they aren't roughed up too much. But I have no idea if that is true.

    • @Tekkud
      @Tekkud  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched a dwarf toss her baby into a shallow pool of magma when startled. Though I can't speak for the likelihood of it, I'm sure having a dwarf carry another any distance has a non-zero chance of getting 'roughed up'.
