Watched your video as I just got one of these radios. Ours is set up different as the “light” button doesn’t flip the screen. It’s actually one of the Bluetooth buttons. Also abc seems to not do anything including locking. But overall thanks for the video in demonstrating some of the functions it’s capable of.
Always good to see a well informed firefighter(?) And a department making an effort to inform their crew to the fullest extent. Great video, and one sexy radio!
You can probably purchase one of this used aftermarket; however, Motorola and authorized dealers will not sell this unless you are a government agency with an FCC LICENSE. This is not a Walmart radio. This is a big boy. This radio has several ways it is connected to the network. LTE, repeaters, and wifi. In a nutshell, distance proximity is not an issue. The average amateur couldn't afford two of these to talk to each other; one unit by itself is almost 8K with accessories and programming you’re probably looking at close to $10,000
I just got an APX8000 a few days ago and love it. MACE, Board AES, ADP, FPP, All Band, (slight bragging), all the goodies. Its not an XE which would be cool but thats okay. Quite the step up from my XTS5000.
It's not unheard of for these to be used by radio amateurs. Going through a dealer isn't a necessity - there are hundreds in private hands that are regularly bought and sold via eBay or other sites. Nor is the radio amateur user.of an APX8000 beholden to Motorola Solutions to program her or his radio. If you do some digging around online, you can get assistance with programming your HT, or have options enabled that allow you to program it via the keypad.
They need to address how hard it is talk with SCBA on and be understood. Also, the 2 "mics" are to talk in front one. The back mic senses surrounding noise and cancels it out so it doesn't drown out what you are saying
There are other versions of the APX8000 almost identical to this version that are used by the police (black case) or the military (with a FDE/coyote brown case and a display designed to work with NVGs). Different features or accessories are used depending upon the mission of whomever is using it but it's essentially the same radio

ABC is 100% programmable. Often we use it to designate Scan vs. Non Scan
