    i just set the drag fairly tight before i cast it and take it from there. great smooth reel that retrieves effortly . not a salt water reel unless you like taking reels apart and cleaning them up

    Ur the first person in my life that i have seen using reverse function on a reel.... before you I always thought y the hell would they even give u this function when u have a nice drag system...oh well.. learned something today....I am still not convinced with the use of it... specially here in Canada when u hook a big ass Pike/Muskie, I don't think they gives u enough time to play with ur reel like that. Thank you for the nice review.

    Was looking for a review because i want to pick this up for my maine trip at the end of the month to add to my arsenal since i have nothing but casting rods and this was the first that popped up lol. Gonna through it on a daiwa aird x.. Good little budget combo and it looks sexy 🤷‍♂️

    this reel is the cheapest and smoothest spinner i own. i baby this reel because it's really a fresh water reel and i'm using it in salt. just as smooth while fishing as it was when i cranked it in the store.

    planing on pairing the 2500 with the 7 foot light micro Shakespeare trout rod you recommended. what do you say?

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Undercover I’ve never used a trout rod or a light micro. I’m assuming that that means a very fast, light powered rod. I’m that case, I think the 2500 might be unbalanced. Maybe a smaller size like the 2000 or even 1 size lower.

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Undercover I also prefer. 7’6” length. I feel it delivers a longer cast on lighter baits.

    That was a really interesting video. I’ve never seen someone fish the way you do with a spinning rod. My question on that is, do you think you could back real quickly enough while a 5lb smallie or 7lb largemouth is violently making runs or head shakes unexpectedly? Also, typically the way drag works is you set it to where you can control the fish, but break you off either. Obviously you don’t know the size of the fish, so from your approximate setting, once the fish is hooked, it shouldn’t be many clicks plus or minus to adjust. Going from a completely locked drag at 22 max lbs is going to take a lot of turns to get it down to say 6lbs. I’d like to see review from someone who uses the drag on this spinning reel tge traditional way, but this was a very cool video! Thanks!

    • @gregdeguerre8804
      @gregdeguerre8804 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Typically you set the drag before you are out on the water fishing. Set it just below the breaking point of the line you have on that reel. Then if you catch a 10 lb fish on 8lb line it won’t break you off when it does a run.
      But ya I wouldn’t be messing around with unlocking the anti reverse a risking a tangle.
      Looks like a decent reel for the price though. But I’m not sure why they decided to make the gold colour SO yellowish. The others above and below it aren’t. Actually I would love all their reels to be black and red or the silver/chrome and red. Love the fuego and procyon. But what can you do.
      Just my 2 cents

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really dont like drag when fighting a fish. I wish baitcasters had reverse too. you're in complete control when you back reel with any size fish/

      @MaineManBassing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Don K more control over the fight. Don’t have to take hand off handle. I do it basically with every big bass. I’m not a fan of using drag during fight. Only when I’m about to be them.

    Do you think that the Daiwa Revros Lt 3000 paired with ugly stik light rod 6' 6' moderate fast is a good pairing? I am looking for something to cast far and use roster tails and spoons for trout.

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont know. I don’t fish for trout or use rooster tails/ spoons. So it’s hard for me to say. 2500 is perfect for 7’ spinning rod. Also the hyper speed is fast. It’s too fast for top water but great for worms and drop shots.

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably too big for a light rod. I have the 2500 on a 7’ med heavy and that is perfect for my rod.

    • @TNAROHfan
      @TNAROHfan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't feel that ugly stik light action rods are actually light action, they are much stiffer and slower than rated. I use ugly stiks for catfish almost exclusively because they are economical and I find that I can downsize and have a more comfortable, lighter rod, like the salmon/steelhead one for instance, and still haul in good sized cats, instead of big bulky "catfish" rods that are like fishing with a tree limb. They are durable and have power, but I've never seen an ugly stik I would call any degree of fast compared to other rods.

  • @bg8224
    @bg8224 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The reason you must turn the drag so far before it starts engaging is because this little beast has 22lbs max drag! I bought this reel for salmon fishing and I switched up to light line for trout the other day and was having the same problem.

    • @MaineManBassing
      @MaineManBassing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah. I don't really use drag that much. I usually have just enough to set the hook, so my line won't snap, then I back reel.

      Alix Ramos depends on what lures you’re throwing. I like 7’3” to 7’6” medium or medium heavy with fast tip. But it really depends on what you’re using it for.
