Matt's face in this was the perfect personification of "I'm gonna let them run off the cliff, why bother stopping them".
"Let them run off a cliff and turn into a goldfish"

"Were basically gods"
He's just enjoying the show like the rest of us...🤣
He let this go on for five minutes. And even in the beginning, Marisha was like "wait, do we even roll for Scry?" But everyone else was so loud and in their own world that they just kept going.
the hilarious thing is that laura heard her and said "yea you do have to roll first"... this was the TOKEN scryer in campaign 2 btw
You can SEE on Matt's face the moment where he went "y'know what, I'm just gonna let these idiots flap in the wind" 😂
Yeah, but I also think there’s a point around 1:43 that he’s looking down at something thinking, “You DON’T roll for scry, right?”.
The whole time he's watching he's just soaking it all in. This is how he gets his kicks, watching his players fumble aimlessly.
Funnier part is they were trying to scry two of their previous campaign characters which they got amulets against scrying at the last part of the campaign and it was suggested by Liam who literally made the wizard character with the amulet being in his backstory.
Not scrying on them would be metagaming though, which is a big no-no 😂
@@AwesomeNuke not scrying them would be metagaming but it wouldn't be not trying to roll a d20 to see if they succeed 🤣
@@Kangstor But they only had those because of Trent and the Sovnovem, and they were taken care of. So they might not had those attuned anymore.
@@matt-thorn so you are telling me Caleb and Beau would go undercover mission on Ludinus who is probably as dangerous if not more than Trent without attuning to amulets that prevent scrying and from what Ludinus' reaction he knew they were involved in some way so would probably scry on them anyway?
@@Kangstor while this is a salient point, I can fully see both Beau and Caleb taking that risk of dropping the amulet in favor of a stronger offensive artifact on the grounds that if you snoop well enough, in theory you don't need to worry about being scried on.
Matt's face at 1:30 is a mixture of disbelief that this is actually happening and amusement and trying to cover it all up. Each flashing briefly upon his face before he tries to suppress it, and it just turns into a giddy half grin.
I love how marisha caught it early. Was gonna ask, looked at Matt, assumed he was checking, and let this shenanigans carry on xD
As a dm, it is the law that if your players just start rolling dice you don't stop them and only once they finally finished you inform them "I never told you to roll anything".
Or "you didn't actually need to roll, it was just supposed to happen, but who am I to ruin the fun..."
1:31 Matt's face when Sam rolls a 20! 😂😍
yessss! Matt finally got them back for trolling every name he invents lolol
Do you think it bothers him that much...that he would scry about it?
Please animate this 🙏
For all the Mike Hunts in Exandria.
Matts journey (bless this man for his patience) and Travis screaming "8 years" 😅
I love how they just instinctively celebrate the Nat 20 even though they have no idea what they’re rolling for.
Its the sucking in of his lips at around 1:45 where he is clearly trying to hold in a laugh that gets me every time.
This is one of my biggest laughs of the campaign. Matt's patience waiting before saying anything was chef's kiss... so much random chaos leading up to his drop.
The fact that he even acknowledged their apology and still let it go on was astounding 😂
"It's okay.
After all, I know how this mess ends."
This fail is up there with Jester calling upon the Traveler to scry upon... the Traveler...
Of course Ashley referred to Beau as "the hot one"...
Also: I want that d20!
No one loves Beau more than Ashley Johnson
Matt heavy on the, "wait! Let's watch this unfold." Lord Matt you were deep in with that!
It was all the sweeter because since Sam rolled a 20, he didn't have to look into the calculations of what he was supposed to add, so Ashley's whole arc could happen still lmaoooo
Just brilliant improv by Matt here. Letting this moment ruminate while saying nothing. Knowing that the players would engage with him at some point and it would be magical. That’s wisdom right there.
You can SEE him excitedly waiting for them to interact with him!!
Bless him, I've never met anyone with more patience than Matt!
Mat just sitting there waiting the whole time as the two players who have rarely used Scrying before just try and figure it out instead of just reading the actual spell. lol
I mean... Reading the spell explains the spell... Usually... Sometimes... There are exceptions...
That poor CR editor who had to do all those keyframes on sam's face
The way that Marisha Ray went from DnD 0 knowledge to being the main one to know how scry worked (even if they did doubt themselves a bit) is amazing and fun to see the learning in real time over 3 season (for her and the rest of the cast).
I'm glad she stuck with it. I hated the way she was bullied and I wouldn't have blamed her for calling it quits. We would have missed out on so much just because of some no name jerks. I wonder how many people stop having fun just because of some jerks gatekeeping or hating on them. Be Marisha and ignore the haters. Be yourself, enjoy yourself and/or become yourself.
Matt was like "this will be a valuable lesson about not rolling random things without asking the gm"
Matt, and Tal, just patiently waiting whilst the kids mess around 🤣🤣
Actually it was Matt and Marisha! She was like that’s not a thing? 😅
And this is AFTER busting them on casting Sending for the 20th time or so when it's been well established that that spell no longer functions but they continue to try anyway because they no longer pay any attention to the DM...
@@mattbriddell9246 Sending has worked a few times in the aftermath of the solstice, though. It worked back in Uthodurn (either directed towards Chetney or FCG. I don't really recall) and in Jrusar directed towards Zhudanna. They just keep ignoring the fact that proximity is key to even having a chance of it working.
@@emmabeckett6451 It was also Tal, he noticed well before Marisha. Soon as people started asking for dice, he smirks, then starts looking back and forth like "Are they really? Yup. Is Matt..yup. Who is going to say something?"
I like how right at the beginning "SCRY" set off TH-cam's glowing "Subscribe" button feature.
It's so inconsistent when saying the right word, but apparently saying "scry" works.
The beginning of that episode was already quite chaotic, and then that sequence was just chef's kiss, a delight. Thanks for the upload.
Table:You just let us hang ourselves!
Matt: Yeah
😅😅😅
Matt saying "that was for me" made me SO HAPPY 😂😂😂
I’ve seen this clip dozens of times and it is still hilarious
This is the scrying equivalent of letting the rogue lock the door with their thieves' tools because they didn't just try the knob and the door was already unlocked.
Sometimes as a DM, you just gotta let the players have their zoomies and when they come back to you, bring them up to speed on what actually happens LOL
The look on Matt's face. You can tell he's just enjoying the scene and waiting for his chance to break it to them that their rolls are pointless.
Sometimes Liam laughs so hard MY abs get a workout
One of the best journeys I've been on.
Matt's happy face and eyes when Sam rolls the nat 20
And people say this shit is scripted.😂
This clip does not get old lmao
The way Liam, Sam, and Tal just completely lose it is so freaking funny! And Matt just patiently waiting in amusement while these children just carry themselves off on straight up mob mentality feeding off of each others' false knowledge that you do indeed roll for scry 😂😂This show is incredible
Proof that this isnt a scripted game
THIS is my FAVORITE crit role moment, EVER!!😂😂
Sure add guidance 🤣
Well they were having fun - bless them
Matt has taken a page out of Zac Oyama’s book. Less is more. This clip is full comedic genius at work😂
love this episode. the fuckery was off the charts XD
As a DM with certain players that expect me to know what their spells do and never bother to read them or keep them on hand… this hits lol.
Dude, with moments like those, I question ANYONE who still thinks that shit is scripted! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think this is the funniest moment in critical role history, lost my shit when I saw it for the first time
For me it was Keyfish. I had JUST taken a sip of wine before and nearly died as I was trying to choke and laugh and breathe at the same time.
For all the times Sam has destroyed Matt with his T-shirts, Matt was more than happy to let this happen 😂
Anyone know what kind of dice tray is sitting in front of Laura?. I think is so cool.
To be fair they did roll for scry in vox machina
IDK about selling CR "inspired" merch... seems shady...
Why dont they ever..learn..their..speeeeeells!?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
Is that the hardest Liam's ever laughed in CR?
Hilarious! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Matt Mercer has time
It'll be interesting to see if they ever get this far into animating the campaign. Sam weirdo FCG character will be an interesting one to see come to animated life. And I wonder if they could somehow find a way to work this moment into the show, with a situation where maybe some NPC will just let them assume they have to do something they don't really have to, for laughs.
I've WATCHED Ashley play this game for hundreds of hours, and she still barely seems to grasp how the game is played.
Remember when Sam was still in the show?...
So any apologies or compassion to follow up on this horribly aged comment?
@@jaseeliegames I was expressing how I missed Sam's antics in the show and felt a void without him there. I never insulted him nor shown any malicious intent.
If guilt-tripping in your pass time then you do you, your just not gonna get it here.
