    I think the day Britain lost India it was the beginning of a very sad death for Britain, I hope the Raj and India is immortalized in our small islands history as it truly was the crown jewel of the Empire.

      Its true. India was the richest country in the world for thousands of years . And conquering india was the biggest achievement for us . India was called as "Jewel of the Crown " most important colony of Britain

      @Braeden it also marked the fall of British Empire and in subsequent years many colonies gained independence. India started and China ended the empire once and for all. Sun has set and lost long ago. Now it is bygone.

      @@mrcool2107 Have some shame in saying conquering India was the biggest achievement for all of us when all of your ancestors were busy looting and exploiting the whole country for your own benefits. Even you people won the 2 world wars because of Indian soldiers. Your people have killed and genocide the natives in New Zealand, US, Australia and Canada. Tried the same dirty trick but failed miserably. India was plundered but we also assured to hit back against Britain which marked the fall of British empire. Today the happiest part we Indians have more homes than the natives in UK. What all money you country looted from India is coming back in the form of outsourcing. Indian origin PM is ruling the nation. All this happened in just 75 years. This is how Indians achieved in recent times. Time for you people to retrospect.

      @@neptune8thplanet the British Empire became a complete joke after giving India in. We tried to partake as a 3rd party in some treaties with Americans and Soviets, only to be laughed at. The Dutch put a better fight than us at keeping our colonies. In the 60s, we handled colonies out in the crudemost way possible, with many of the worst events of the 20th century taking place thereafter. We Rhodies and South Africans? COMPLETELY ABANDONED, and that predates the 1930s, tbh, but still, sons of massacred Boers such as my great grandpa were fighting WW1, side to side with the original perpetrators of the Afrikaner genocide! Same thing in ww2!Britain was broke the 1910s, continued broke after the Great War, and would become even more poorer after ww2! All colonies post the greatest war made the British Empire possibly the biggest Rump State mankind has ever seen.

      @thehorselesshussar9813 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      There were no shackles, the Indians had as much right and freedoms as any of the other dominions, they had their own parliament, their own government seats, their own independent policy and army. Britain never forced India into anything it did not want. They'd learnt that mistake from America. It was hard, and it was a clash of religion, ideology and values. But Britain did good in India and brought law, justice, and peace to a long fractured and violent place.

      @@thehorselesshussar9813 That's not what happened. The sole purpose of colonial rule was to extract resources from India for the betterment of the British Empire. Over 200 years, resources amounting to $45T were extracted from the country. Poverty was rampant in the British Raj, with almost no GDP growth. The "parliament and government seats" were basically British monitored institutions . As for "Independent Policy", the Policy was made by the government under the control of the British. That's not "independent" in any way, because if it was, India would've broken away at the first chance it got. The "Army" may have consisted of Indians (who did fight some heroic battles), but it was merely an extension of the British Army.
      Apart from the drain of wealth, an estimated 60-165 million Indians died as a result of colonial policies in India (across 200 years). The British treating Indians "equally" is a big joke. There were restaurants which had signs saying "Indians and Dogs not allowed."
      The British bringing about law and justice to Indians is a good as saying the Nazis saved Europe from doom. Indians suffered mere exploitation and oppression at the hands of the colonial authorities. India did not see peace after independence either.
      As for India being a "fractured" place, the subcontinent was stable under former empires such as the Guptas and Mauryas. India was unstable after the decline of the Mughals, which lead to a power vacuum in the region eventually filled by the British. In China, many civil wars have taken place but there has always been some victorious party filling the power gap. In the case of India, had the British not arrived, the Marathas would've eventually unified the subcontinent.
      I'm not saying that colonial rule was completely bad for Indians, there were quite a few positive things that the British did to India. The vast railway network in modern-day India can be attributed to the British, not to mention the unification of the subcontinent as a whole. Old and barbaric practises were stamped out and India was introduced to democracy and modern legislation as well. However, most Brits ONLY tend to look at these merits and not the effects of the Raj on ordinary Indians, who faced the bad consequences I've mentioned above.
