aespa Black Mamba MV - Reaction

This has been a hotly anticipated girl group debut. aespa is SM’s first first girl group since 2014.
There’s been so much buzz, theories, controversies, and coverage of this group, and that’s all before the Black Mamba MV had even landed.
We were curious to see Karina, Ningning, Giselle, and Winter in action and possibly even get to see their avatars too.

Kwanga is where the avatars (the æ-versions) live, from what I understand. The æ-versions of members and the normal versions of members connect via SYNK, which got destroyed or disturbed by the black mamba. The black mamba can be thought of like a computer virus. I think that the plot, for now, may be about trying to defeat the black mamba and fix the SYNK, but that is just a guess.
At the end, SM teased Boa's new comeback. Seems like SM is starting to tease MVs through other MVs, like what they did with æspa through SuperM and NCT.

Ah that makes a lot of sense and explains why the avatars didn’t really show up a lot in the MV. We really need a second MV ASAP to deliver more of this storyline.
Oh wow SM is going all marvel. Kinda makes sense with the superm/marvel merch collab too. We saw the Aespa teaser in One, but didn’t realise it’s was Aespa until like a month later.

Personally, I don't really dig the avatar concept at the moment but am still curious about it and the song was ok.
I didn't watch the teasers so the song was quite surprising for me as I wasn't expecting this kind of vibe (I was maybe expecting a cute concept to be honest). The aesthetics and vibe reminded me of KDA (and a champion from the game LoL), both "Monster" from EXO and Red Velvet, and (G)Idle "Oh My God" ASMR part. But, overall it was still different and it nicely showcased the girls. They have good vocals and dance skills. I heard that they have quite a fair line distribution even if we saw more Karina and less Winter and Giselle (was expecting more rap as well and remembered her because of the French ballet name 😅).
As you said, this debut makes you want to listen to what they will have for the future. We'll see if SMent will stick with this concept. 🤞
This year new groups show great potential (also watched your STAYC reaction which I enjoyed but had nothing to say for once 😅 as I was also discovering them).

We’re not convinced by the avatar concept either. We kinda expected this MV would show how it was all going to work, so we’re surprised by their lack of presence in it. We need a 2nd MV to give more context and info! Black Mamba kinda felt like a longer teaser.
Haha we realised when editing that there’s so much happening in this MV that we were concentrating too hard on what was happening and barely spoke/made an expressions. 😂
Based on the debuts and the buzz around the groups Aespa and StayC both seem like groups to keep an eye on as 4th gen leaders. It’ll be interesting to see how both develop and grow!

I saw the video last night for the first time. The song is pleasant and the girls sing it well. I think I will pass on this group as I have enough K-Pop to listen too as I still listen to Western Artists too and time is limited due to work.

Completely getting the feeling of having a full slate. There's only so many hours in the day, lol. We're interested in seeing them perform and for a couple of more songs and MVs. Hard to tell with the debut song, but they seem to have potential.
