I'm loving this! I actually grow a few radish just to go to seed, I use radish pods in place of snow peas when they tucker out in July. Radish pods are amazing in stir fry and in salad! ❤

Last year I harvested five plants worth of broccoli seeds. I probably got over 5k worth of seeds. I'll be good to go for the rest of my life.😅 Love the videos keep them coming.

Edit: Should have watched the video 3 seconds longer! LOL. Sorry Luke! It's almost like you know what you're doing or something.
    🤣 🙏 Thank you.
You don't have to sacrifice the harvest... you just eat the immature seed pods rather than the root. I actually prefer them to the root. Plus they just keep producing all summer long and they're super easy to grab and toss in a salad. If you don't harvest them all... the ones that turn into seed, you can harvest for seed. I throw them in every bed because they do such a great job to camouflage other plants and deter pests. They also make a lovely delicate trailing flower in hanging baskets.

This would have been perfect this spring for me - all my root veggies bolted in a heat wave😅
But next year this is going to be amazing!

    Hi Luke
After cleaning radishes from the store a few of them had tiny leaves. I planted them in a pot. Got so many pods from just 4 radishes. Too green to harvest.

Radish pods and seed. I usually don’t like radishes, but I got some cherry belle for free and they’re currently growing in the garden. They haven’t even produced yet, but I’m excited to try to save seeds. Thanks for making everything look so doable to this newbie!

I saved the same kind of radish seeds last year and planted them in a different spot this year. This year I planted potatoes in the same spot the radishes grew last year and to my surprise I had radishes growing with my potatoes. I had know idea radishes could survive the winter. I live north of Green Bay in Wisconsin

I find it amazing how the pods pop open to spread the seeds. Poppy plants do the same thing. I left dome poppy pods on the counter. After a couple days the pods popped and spread the seeds all over the kitchen. Amazing!

    • @mlynnw7831
      @mlynnw7831 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When the seed pods get fluffy on the tip, remove the pod, grasp the fluff and pull it out, and dump the seeds out from the pods. There will be almost no chaff. (Luke probably has a faster way to save larger quantities.)

Why are the smaller pods better off in the compost pile? Is that because you already have lots? Or are they not as good?

Did you discard the small seed pods because the size is likely to mean the seeds will produce small/puny radishes, (kind of like how it’s best to avoid planting tiny garlic cloves), or is it because the effort vs the amount of seeds isn’t worth dealing with?

  • @tammybyrd1054

LOL love the joke, yes you need a rocking chair! lol I had never let radish go to seed so this year I did so I could try the pods. OMGOSH!!! They were awesome! I harvested a ton and snacked on them and used them in salads. I don't know that I could ever save seeds as I either eat the radish or the seed pods especially! lol I'll try.....lol i agree, a rocking chair, a table, some lemonade and my garden....that's all I need.

Oh I’m so excited for the salad video, I’ve saved all my seed heads from my spring salad. It would be so cool to use those seeds to plant my fall lettuce.
Also, I’ve gathered probably close to 3 cups worth of marigold seeds, but I can’t seem to get them to germinate. Could I be harvesting those seeds too early?

Way back in the 60s, we had to clean our weed. Saving seeds is a breeze! A tray and a card, I prefer the 7 of hearts, and you have your seeds ready to plant for next year!
