That thing is mechanically and visually one of the coolest fucking things i have ever seen, also it is scary that its just left rotting in the castle walls.
Seeing this breaks my heart. I wish I could experience this in person as a full-grown adult now. I super vaguely remember the show and being scared of the dragon. As I grew up, I was happy that Merlin's house stayed. I returned to Vegas years later only to find that the moat is completely gone. Vegas is a shell of its former self, but unfortunately, this will never come back because people like the way it is now for some reason.
It is a rather lackluster "battle", but I'm sure the kids loved this. Place me in the column of people who wish that Vegas had not de-themed. The resorts were more interesting when we had dragons, the Wizard of Oz, and Pirate battles.
@@69wagon1 That would be great. I heard something about it coming back as well, but then I heard later it was just a rumor. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Thanks for posting. I was looking down on the dragon track the other day with a tear in my eye. This video brought back some great memories from my first trips to Vegas as a kid.
You're very welcome Nicole. I'm glad this video brought back those good memories for you. Your comment made my night ! I very much appreciated the free outside shows the various resorts were doing back in the 90's, and it's sad to see them gone. It looks like the volcano at the Mirage and the fountains at the Bellagio are the last ones left. They recently shut down the Siren's at the Treasure Island which was a great show too, but not as Good as the original Buccaneer Bay pirate battle. That one was my all time favorite. It would be great to see the resorts bring them all back.
Hi Alexis You're very welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a video I will treasure always, and my 4 year old daughter who you hear on the video was amazed at all of Las Vegas.
The creppy part is my last trip to Vegas (Feb 2019) the gate for the dragon was opening in the wind and the dragon is still there! Kinda creppy in the dark.....
(3:41) "Get him out of here! Go back you silly (pooper?) head! Ha ha ha!" 🤣 Gotta love kids, man. I wonder where they are now. They need to see this. 😉
The youtube channel named Freddy Trap posted a video of how the dragon looks like right now behind the walls, pretty awesome! He also shows a part where you can see a little bit of Merlin. Thanks for this video! It’s really amazing to see it🤩
I wasn't born in this time. But I wonder if life was better. The commentary was adorable, honestly I feel as if humanity just isn't as amazing as it was before :(
Hi Alexandra. Thank you for your nice comment. That's my daughter Stephanie at age 3. This was her first trip to Vegas, and I have to say her reactions to the casino floor, all the lights inside and outside, plus all the free shows like the dragon, the volcano at the Mirage, and the pirate ships battle at Treasure Island are a cherished memory for sure.
I'm glad you posted this because I never saw it. For some reason the show was shut down almost immediately, I always wondered why. II remember seeing Excalibur and Luxor built and I used to go to Vegas all the time, but I missed this show!
QueenV, I'm glad you found the video and are able to see the show. It was a great memory for my family to make this video as well. You can hear my daughter making all the comments as it happened. She really loved the show and I treasure this memory with her.
According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excalibur_Hotel_and_Casino the show ran from 1993 to 2004. I seem to remember seeing it at least twice over a number of years when I was young. I wish they'd reboot it.
You're very welcome Vin. It's very nice knowing that so many are enjoying this old video we took in Vegas in the early 90's that has been kept all this time.
Ah... even though my dad took me around the strip on his days off back as a kid (he was a taxi driver here), this was one attraction I never got to see. I only remember Merlin coming out of the top of the tower to say things that were muffled by blaring music. I DO remember my dad saying that there was a dragon beneath the castle and I never believed him because I didnt get to see it lol this is proof it did! Also if anyone remembers (or it was a crazy dream) but wasn't the Caesar's Palace current Atlantis show something else before? I could have sworn it was a little mermaid themed show. I remember the decorative statues there having signs on them for people not to sit on because things would come out of them. Cant ask my dad anymore because unfortunately he passed, and mom doesn't seem to remember either. But walking on the strip with dad as a kid are some of my favorite memories and I still wish Vegas was as family friendly and thematic as it was back then :) I'm sure I would have appreciated living here more if it still had heart, even in the free attractions. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of history!
Hi Lydia, It's been many years since we saw the Atlantis show. I don't remember any of it. Anyway, you're very welcome, and I'm very glad you liked the video. Thank You for the nice comment.
I always wandered what that little house was for in the fountain. It sucks this was taken out as well as the pirate show at treasure Island and the volcano at the mirage.
It's more than likely due to the cost. Vegas has more ignorant corporate executives looking at the bottom line and they've removed just about all of the great outside shows they used to put on.
Back in the early 90's, Vegas was smart and used these great outside shows to draw the adults who normally would not come because there was nothing there for the kids. This move made Vegas flourish. Since they have removed these great attractions, look at them now. Struggling to stay afloat.

It is. It has none of this magic it used to. The volcano is the only early 90s attraction still there. :(
It never had “magic”… Vegas is to gamble drink and have sex with strangers. There’s a reason these shows are gone. Vegas is NOT family friendly lol
