      Thank you, Sarah. That’s because I was painting in the studio and didn’t have to hurry. On location, I paint much faster 😅

    Lina i have to tell you how much I liked the “ 8 Ways Guide” it was a pleasure to read and study it.
    . It looked fantastic on my computer screen - so filled with beautiful color.
    In addition, the content was fantastic - you are a good instructor. I really like your boats painting here.

    I notice how you started with the boats at the lower half of the sheet. Why not start at the top and work down? Does the gouache dry fast enough that it works to paint above a freshly painted object?

    • @LenaRivo
      @LenaRivo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think I just was eager to paint that light translucent shadow on the white boat in the foreground. If that white boat hadn’t been there or if it hadn’t been white I would have probably started with the blue fishing ship. Gouache dries very fast, so it allows you to paint over the previous layer almost immediately, however the key is not to water the paint down too much, otherwise the new layer can dissolve and blend with the previous layer of the paint. We want to avoid that.

    Absolutely stunning. Your ability to capture both the real hues and shades of the colors while simultenously giving it an impressionistic look is truly something to marvel. Unfortunately it seems like every time I try and see if your courses are available, I always seem to miss the mark, but all in due time. Keep up the fantastic work!

    Bravo, bravo Lena!! Have a question; In your course, you mention to put in the easy color first, meaning the ones that don’t have to be mixed or at least that much, and put large shapes in first as well. Noticed this was not the same order~ is this one of the cases where it might be subjective and not follow that guideline? There is so much wonderful detail here and liked how you managed the landscape in the distance. Many thanks!

      Tami Jacque Hi Tami, here the boats aren’t details. They are important shapes that’s why I treated the larger boats as separate shapes and I painted the smaller distant boats on top of the water layer. The “easiest” colors were of course on the blue boat. I could have started with it first and it wouldn’t have changed anything because the most important value and color relationships were between all the boats and the water, so I needed to paint all the boats first so that it became easier to find the right value and color for the water. I started with the boat in the foreground because I wanted to make sure to paint those light shadows on it as light as they appeared so that I could compare the shadows on all the other boats to them.

    beautiful work - I was taught to use Ox Gall liquid in place of water when I want to move the paint more smoothly/easily on the paper. Do you ever use it?

    • @LenaRivo
      @LenaRivo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Nadine! I haven’t tried adding ox gall to gouache. To me, the fast drying time is more an advantage rather than something I need to fight with :)

    I think your recent works are too detailed. I like works that are a little looser. However, I like your works as a whole.
