I'm a 11 handicap. Hadn't played in months. Went to the range this week and couldn't hardly get a ball off the ground or shank. This video fixed everything; totally made the whole swing easy and repeatable. Balls going straight and far now. Tank you so very much
I used to watch a lot of vids on youtube for golf but for me, these guys are by far the best and I don't really watch any others now. Thanks to you both for all your vids, you've really helped me get back on track after a few years away from the sport!
Guys: You always hide little gems in your videos for us. The 45° angle wrist preset is terrific, and the “extend the right arm on the way down” concept is making everything fall into place for my downswing. Your teaching has made me a much better ball-striker. THANK YOU and I.O.U. 😂
Truly benefited by your swing thought of Henrik Stenson's -right-hand slapping down on the golf ball in the down swing -- that has significantly increased club speed, increased distance -- and just makes for really solid contact. Thanks for great videos -- some of the very best on TH-cam Golf!
These guys are awesome! I’ve been struggling with consistency. Between high 70s mid 80s but horrendous hooks etc... this explanation on the takeaway took me to a 75, Missing one fairway, the previous time out, I missed every fairway! Thank you!
this is an outstanding video. keeping my face too closed in the takeaway was 100% limiting my ability to externally rotate my trail shoulder.. all bets were off by P2 basically, lol. must say i really appreciate how you two identify all the causal connections in the swing. seems like an obvious approach, but not many instructors can do it. really great teachers and that’s a fkn cool thing to be. so thank you.
Wow, bud thank you for the kind words! We're glad it helped. That overly shut face early like that causes so many golfers grief and most just aren't aware to look that early in the swing.
Great video! Since coming back to golf after more than a decade off, I have entirely refocused my practice towards using right side (hand / wrist / arm) thoughts only - life is so much easy now - my left hand is now just on for the ride If you add in right hand & arm only practice swings, while stopping to focus on the key checkpoint positions, you can literal fix your golf swing in minutes - and it is so easy and basic to do.
Awesome explanation. Can't wait to do the drills. I've always struggled with overcocking is overcocking the right wrist and losing the club in my left hand
Great advice. I didn’t have time to practice it so took it out on the course today. It worked on my iron shots straight away and I nearly aced the first hole I tried it on. What seemed good is that you get the shallowing on the down swing without all the artificial moves at the top of the backswing. If only all swing tips could work so fast. Thanks guys 😀👍
I think there are some pretty good golfers that are outliers to your preferred hinge pattern, but I really like your thorough and conscientious approach to delivering a stock "vanilla" method that will really work for most of us.
The tray thought helped me the most. As if you’re a waiter serving a tray of food on a table. So at the top of your swing you have a tray in your right hand. You gotta serve that tray on a table. If you come over the top you’re gonna throw the tray on the table.
At 10'0s, Gold. Force applied to grip causes loss of lag. You can't hold your wrist angles if you apply wrong force on downswing. Straighten the right elbow from the top is how force is applied without affecting wrist angles until well into downswing.Been looking for this nugget of info for ever. No more casting pulling down with hands. Thankyou...
Great advice for reflexion of the legs to start the downswing....this is my issue with thin shots...i believe i dont drop into the squat enough which gives me thinned strikes.....thx guys
I'm an AMG Academy Member. I realize this video was posted 3 years ago, but I hope you respond to comments. The coat hanger drill was good for getting the feel. But my problem is that the wrists over-hinge at the top due to the momentum of the club. I'm not even trying to hinge at all. I'm not even aware over-hinging during the swing. I'm even trying to stop my backswing at LOP position. But when I look at the recorded video, I can see my arms go up completely, and wrists over-hinging. As a result of that, my lead wrist gets into the cupped position. What are the swing thought, technique, or drills to stop the backswing where they need to?
Could you do a GEARS video of the right wrist angle in relation to the forearm throughout the swing? Can you overdo the right wrist extension as far as hinging it back toward your forearm? I realize you don’t want to cock them to a position past parallel but am wondering about hinging the back of the right hand toward the forearm. Thanks.
Great video. Each time I watch you guys I learn something new. On the takeaway, does wrist hinge start immediately or after a certain point in move away from ball?
Any guidance on how the right hand grip influences the initial move from the ball? Seems like a slightly weaker right hand position assists in permitting the flexion and radial deviation?
Our best advice would be to start at dead neutral, see how that works for you. Then try slightly weaker, then slightly stronger. See which of those make it easier and the most sense for you.
Dudes, this is SOLID GOLD! The 45° takeaway is exactly what I was working on today with an amazing Golfing Machine certified instructor. It gets your left wrist flat and gets you to ROTATE through the shot. Awesome video, guys. One your best ever.
Guys I love your videos. I’ve been working on this wrist position and getting good solid contact particularly with the irons. However I’ve lost some distance with this as it feels as though that angle is impeding my release. What am I missing?
Another great video that has helped clear some things for me. However, I'm still not sure how the wrists move after contact. Would love to see you cover that if you haven't already done so somewhere else.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing all this great info. Does other office staff ever know when you guys are filming, or do they keep passing by on purpose? PS: always feel like you guys are a bit too close and someday going to hit each other with those clubs! 😂

another helpful video. What is your swing thought for your release from the delivery position? Personally, I think of trail hip drive/rotation to drop the shaft to the delivery position and then the trail shoulder drop/rotation to sling the release from the delivery position, keeping the hands relatively quiet (to sling them like a rope, with the shaft feeling wrapped around my trunk). Thanks for the video.
Great drill guys! An instructor had told me to close the face using the reverse motorcycle move. And, if I hooked the ball to turn the face a little less. Guess he didn't have a clothes hanger handy.
Great details! Is there any type of "grip roll" in the backswing? Just to try to hit different shots would you roll the grip up or down or does that throw things out of whack? Do some pros do this on gears? Wouldn't you need a little grip roll up for a "full" backswing? If I do a neutral hinge(right wrist toward forearm) I can only go to about 3/4.
On the backswing there really isn't much variability unless it's for something like a super high flop shot or something of that nature. For full swings, it's more consistent in the backswing.
@@AthleticMotionGolf that's really eye opening for me. It looks like Rory rolls the club up(push draw) and Koepka rolls(pull fade) the grip down(in their backswing)? They are just hinging neutral?
Strange, exactly the thing I was working on yesterday, to get my right wrist sorted at the top of the backswing so that I could get my left wrist slightly bowed later at impact. But what about at P2, is it better to have the face more closed at P2 or to have it open/straight up? Some say it has to be in line with your spine? Im a little confused, or isnt it that important?
Very nice. My question is I find that the women really struggle to achieve these positions and especially break down at the top. What are ur suggestions to retrain this?
Great question, Quenton! We've been working with more and more top college women and LPGA golfers and in really basic terms - they are just so darn flexible with their range of motion at the top. We spend a lot of time on the sequence and dynamic shift which is typically a big missing piece for them. That helps a ton to tighten things up at the top.
Athletic Motion Golf yes super flex seems to be part of the issue and sequence timing too. I appears to me that part of or sometimes all of the left side posterior chain is weak or disorganized and often the right side does not play the support structure roll needed to achieve the correct sequence/ positions. Thoughts?
@@AthleticMotionGolf My problem is if I engage my arms the hit instinct takes over. Do you have a cure for that . Also are you doing the motorcycle twist with your hands as the club moves toward impact . Thanks for your info.!
@@msendowski Making full swings at an uncomfortably slow pace will help you get rid of that hit impulse. That twist should start up near the top. If you try to wait near impact, you'll always be late.
Extending your trail wrist will automatically take some of that ulnar deviation out (from address). Is there really even a need to think about vertically hinging wrists?

The Wally Armstrong “hanger” is a great training aid. Loaned mine to a friend years ago. Had to buy another last year. It really works.
Brilliantly simple... which we love!
