Growing up in domestic violence messes children's heads up so bad, that they have no idea how to live functioning adult lives, especially in a relationship, its sad that this occurs much more frequently than anyone know, its all so secretly covered up by everyone involved
I understand this man had been truly unprepared and not extremely knowledgeable in what he was doing, but at the end of the day,a family lost someone so important to them. And Chris Really suffered to do what he wanted in life. I can't imagine how he felt and what his family felt dealing with it all My heart goes out to them
its not about the bus, the wilderness...its about a sons pain...the pain from his family...ie...parents..it all starts at home people, family of origin....
Can’t believe I’ve never heard of this story before.....I watched the movie Into the Wild today on Netflix and as I dive more into the background of Christopher’s story, it breaks my heart even more. It’s very sad that he ended up dying in his search for happiness and inner peace...I can’t even begin to image how he felt as he took his last breath all alone and probably feeling guilty as he went. There was a note at the end of the movie that he supposedly wrote before dying that stated He lived a good life and I really hope that was his reality, because regardless of how selfish his actions may have looked, he wanted to live and appreciate the life he was given without any of society’s strings attached. Things I learned from this story is that sometimes the happiness we crave is in front of us, but it can be hard to find as we’re surrounded by hypocrisy....& most importantly, “Happiness is only real when it is shared.” Rest in Peace to a beautiful soul. You have inspired me and so many others ❤️❤️

If you are going into the wild, you better take more than child like innocents and sense of wonder. As Chris wrote at the end. 'NO GAME'. To go into the wild means to take responsibility to survive, not to commit suicide. Death is so romantic to the young and and leads them to see the world like they want it to be, not as it is.
After i heard about this story at the time i was going thru so much in my life trying to find who i am and my purpose i was stupid enough to do the same thing chris did, just go , just do it, what saved me is i told someone about it, this person knew how much i was engolfed in this story and knew i was days away to making this journy so she told my family and they had an intervention with me which made me change my mind..
This is all such pointless speculation. Carine says "blah, blah, blah..." based on some loosely tied together family dynamics? Nobody knows what Alex was thinking but him, and he ain't talkin'. I can tell you this - based on everything I've ever read about Alex, all this fan-fare, hoopla would have made him sick (and only reinforces why he wanted to leave society in the first place).

Chris, was running from himself. He said he desired truth. We all can admire his desire and ability to over come so may obstacles on the streets and in the wilderness. But regardless of our personal family experiences if not physically abusive we must learn to forgive. None of us live perfect lives or are perfect parents and must learn to forgive others so God can forgive us. I think it wasn't till the end on that plaque that he forgave his parents but before that it was Chris who was the abusive one and he realized that and forgave them.
Maybe it’s just me, but I fail to understand why people continually blame their upbringings for poor decisions. There are tons of people who’ve had bad upbringings who pull themselves out of it and succeed massively. But we seem to have a special focus on those that don’t.
He died because he ate poisonous potato seeds, which left him so weak he couldn't function. His sister says she "owes it to everyone to tell the truth". My guess is that she wrote the book because of the $$$$.
No, they did a test on his body and found that he hadn’t eaten anything poisonous and had just starved due to a lack of food. So the story of him eating poisonous potatoes is more fictional than truth.
He actually didn't burn his money or identification. I just recently watched a video where they interviewd the guy who has Chris's backpack. He said the authorities left it after they removed Chris from the bus. It wasn't until years later he found a secret compartment and in it was Chris's wallet. It had 3 $100 dollar bills and a few forms of id.
@@LoneVocalist yes! thank you. This entire story is a media creation because Krakauer decided to write a book. Otherwise, nobody would have ever heard about it. Pure hype, no real story
Dude took a walk in the woods and never came back. Not that big of a deal. Everybody should do it. This story is just about a family that decided to make money.
All those people paying tribute are lost as well. Lost souls who like Chris could not find it in their hearts to forgive others. I believe Chris realized that before he died that is why he left that short but to the point farewell to his family that he had a great life. That was his way of saying he forgave them and was sorry.
The way this interview was conducted, with the haunting music and darkening when the portion about the abuse comes in... Chris would probably hate this.
I hiked to the Magic Bus in 2005. It was an amazing experience, and life changing for me. I was surprised that the bus had electricity and satellite TV.
I have no doubt the father was a tough SOB. But I still feel for he and his wife for their loss. I think this new book is going to cause a permanent divide between the parents and these daughters.
What’s your point? He dug his own grave. “Tough SOB” is just an excuse for an abusive, heartless POS. He had a second family for crying out loud and you’re issuing sympathy? Gotta defend other white men, right?
Though his story is indeed tragic, I would hardly call him a modern day Daniel Boone! He was ill-prepared for the environment and its challenges, making him at least reckless if not irresponsible.
I just see a rebellious young boy who didn’t know what was doing I think he thought nature would be welcoming, but there’s a reason why humans left this kind of life, living and sustaining yourself in the middle of the nature is DIFFICULT
If Carine can smile and be both happy and be proud of as well as take comfort in. Is knowing that Chris has inspired a generation to follow their dreams including me
although I am sad for the family, I can't help but be mad at how I'll prepared Chris was. there are a lot of us who just wanted to up and do what he did,but after living and working in Alaska, you must be totally and completely outfitted and ready for surviving, especially of a winter. it is a beautiful, harsh and an unforgiving land. unfortunately he paid a high price, rest his soul.
Jon Krakauer already spoke about this in the book in chapter 12. Chris discovered the hidden family scandal on his first cross country trip before he graduated from Emory in Atlanta. All that did was put the icing on the cake that was already sweet enough. He was going to Alaska either way.
He wasn’t lost but he didn’t know where he was if that makes sense, there was an alternate route a few miles away that would’ve given him access across the river to the highway
First off whenever someone says they were abused but the parents say it's a lie I'm always inclined to believe the child. I know with the abuse I endured my mother seems pretty ambivalent about it and my father's deceased. But if I had a profile career I can't imagine that she would admit it. This was such a high-profile movie and book I'm sure it's the kind of attention his mother did not want especially being a bigomist. Secondly this young man I applaud his courage but I really feel he did things the wrong way. Having said that he did what he felt in his heart was right so I can't fault him. All he had to have done was brought a little more food or even maybe a map but this was his destiny. He never showed any kind of emotional attachment to anyone other than his sisters and now he is at peace. I hope you did not suffer and I hope that he is dancing with the angels in heaven. It's a very poignant and powerful movie and while I feel some of his messages wrong about getting rid of all material possessions to the point of putting yourself at risk or even causing your own death I do think people are far too materialistic and way too unkind to each other.
I can definitely understand why Christopher wanted to escape into the wild given the circumstances he grew up in as well as how he could relate to some of the booms he read. I am sure ge was a bright, kind, and genuine person. However, he greatly underestimated his ability to survive in the wild, refused help from others, and did not have the proper knowledge to live in the wild. In retrospect, his actions were stupid and his refusal to accept help, lack of knowledge, and romanticism of nature is what brought him to his demise. I do hope, however, that where his soul is... He is at peace.
I need to do what Chris did im 33 now and need this i can hunt trap and live outside i have family but no family of my own i love them but i need a adventure im to ready

He realised his father was a liar (NASA) and a devil worshipper and he wanted none of it. His father and step mother wanted him to just become like them, be selfish and exploit other so he did the opposite, he went into the wild so he wouldn't participate in that evil but was unprepared and ended up dying but at least he was at peace with God.
Did Christopher have a camera ? Curious as to where the photo's came from. He should've compared the roots and berries more carefully and he would've lived, more animals would've come around for him to hunt. It's an inspiration as well as a lesson of being careful. I admire what Chris tried to do and he did his best to learn and prepare, but didn't have the benefit that some of us who are raised hunting, fishing, gathering, preserving, meat and food. Yes he was unprepared in the knowledge it took to survive. He still gave it a shot though and I admire him for it. What has always stumped me about his story is he was a smart kid, so why didn't he realize this? You have to practice this stuff and screw up dozens of times before you can get it right. He had to have known that?
At a guess, he survived wilderness situations in the lower 48 which gave him a false sense of knowledge... there's a world of difference in the wilderness and back roads of the "lower 48" states and the back wilderness of Alaska. He *had* survived in tough conditions, hot and cold, so he thought he had it figured out. The Alaskan wilderness is something else altogether and his experiences simply didn't match that reality. I think that's how he got caught in it over his head.
He's hardly a folk hero. Just a naive young man that got in over his head out in the woods. More of a lesson on what not to be. Poor guy underestimated mother nature. Thought dropping off the grid in such an inhospitable environment would be easy. Hope nobody dies making a pilgrimage to see that school bus.
M he gave it a go and that’s more than most can say. Was he in over his head? Sure. But most people surf the internet and never try anything or seek to get anything.
Young people always pushed boundaries, explored the world inside and outside themselves. It’s beautiful. Unfortunately, Chris’s story turned tragic, but I don’t believe that the violence in the family made him reckless and thoughtless. If this was about wanting to abandon or punish his parents, he could have done it in many safer ways. I get the impression that he was truly adventurous and brave kid in the line of old romantic explorers (as there were many in the previous centuries) and let’s not reduce it to running away from abusive father story. As we speak, young Americans are doing the same in Africa and Asia, even during covid.
I came upon his photo in u-tube when his sister Carine was giving a talk, and I immediately made that association of how similar he looked like to Tony Peluso the guitarist who played the solo of that Carpenter's song which also has a similar trait listening to the lyrics.

@@pabloescobarschanclas But he took a chance and lived his dream!!! His dream of starving to death in a rusted out old bus in the middle of nowhere!!! Not everyone can say they've done that!!! Everybody is afraid to do that (and should be)!!! 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
A chance on what? He had no reason to go out there!
Reporter seems to have some difficulty telling the difference between being lost in the wilderness, and on a pilgrimage. Chris wasn't there by accident. He wasn't lost. He was unprepared. He was ill equipped. But he wasn't lost.
Growing up in domestic violence messes children's heads up so bad, that they have no idea how to live functioning adult lives, especially in a relationship, its sad that this occurs much more frequently than anyone know, its all so secretly covered up by everyone involved
My cousin Matt lived in the woods in Alaska and drowned a few years ago at age 35. He and Chris were very similar.
I understand this man had been truly unprepared and not extremely knowledgeable in what he was doing, but at the end of the day,a family lost someone so important to them. And Chris Really suffered to do what he wanted in life. I can't imagine how he felt and what his family felt dealing with it all
My heart goes out to them
I'd give anything to be with lovely Carine romantically. She is striking.
Still 100+ days in the Alaskan wilderness without much prep is impressive
He wasn't lost!!!! The river was flooded wtf?
he didn´t have a map tho, there was a near route a few miles up the river.
its not about the bus, the wilderness...its about a sons pain...the pain from his family...ie...parents..it all starts at home people, family of origin....
physical and emotional abuse goes in deep...look at the real story folks..
3:20 this man really said it hard without even realising!
Live before you die!
How many of us does actually live or do we just exist?
It’s a trip that his body was found two weeks after his death.
Unreal.
Made it all that time without anyone rolling up and then...
Seems like Chris lived in the moment a way we should all live.
This was posted on my little brothers B Day that we didn’t see for 22years.
I really wish Chris made ut over the river. he could still be on his adventures today.
He probably would’ve done something stupid again. Just this time more dangerous he probably would’ve went somewhere even harsher. Or just kept bumming around the US and Canada.
I don't get why people think he was selfish,,he did everything for himself and didn't ask for help from anyone
Didn't he hitchike and get help from multiple strangers on his adventures?
Though that won't make him selfish still but ye.
He should left a letter for his parents just before leaving , they searched him months
My Father was NEVER ABUSIVE to us kids growing up. But mom Totally Lost it when dad was diagnosed with CANCER. She got cold uncaring numb put up a Brick Wall & Became a Terribly Harsh Disciplinarian without telling us she LOVED US.

God Bless you 🙏🏾🩷 , may God protect over you . I’m sorry about your loss and that you had to experience this . 🩷
The things we do to our children. Peace and love to all.
This is one of the most traumatic stories I have ever been introduced.

@dave hathaway nice answer man .
No, they did a test on his body and found that he hadn’t eaten anything poisonous and had just starved due to a lack of food.
So the story of him eating poisonous potatoes is more fictional than truth.
You must work for her parents. You know nothing. Shame on you.
@@joshuapittman4663 no he was poisoned but it just crippled him, causing him to starve
@@twiggy1253 the autopsy showed no signs of poisoning, he just didn’t have enough food.
Chris may have burned his money but his sister is more than willing to cash in on him.
Let's not forget that krakaeour guy who's made a career of out the entitled hobo, then Hollywood and now his sister.
@@LoneVocalist yes! thank you. This entire story is a media creation because Krakauer decided to write a book. Otherwise, nobody would have ever heard about it. Pure hype, no real story
Chris was an inspiration to the young who wish to escape reality
Dude took a walk in the woods and never came back. Not that big of a deal. Everybody should do it. This story is just about a family that decided to make money.
All those people paying tribute are lost as well. Lost souls who like Chris could not find it in their hearts to forgive others. I believe Chris realized that before he died that is why he left that short but to the point farewell to his family that he had a great life. That was his way of saying he forgave them and was sorry.
It's sad so many hateful comments, that is what I find sad, I'm sure Chris would love you talking about his siblings this way.
rx7dude2006 it's amazing how much hate people have on here. People love making hateful comments while hiding behind a keyboard.
The way this interview was conducted, with the haunting music and darkening when the portion about the abuse comes in... Chris would probably hate this.
He didn't die from not being able to find food. He died from eating the wrong food
being stupid is probably what killed him.
Someone let soul to fly happily... god keep you.. rest in peace brother.. u lived 3days of meaningful life..
and after reading comments below i got to know the reason why u went "into the wild".. best choice ever... never come back to earth..
He was not 'stranded' and 'forced' to take refuge in an abandoned bus. He was on an adventure that went wrong.
I read the book watched the movie such a heart warming interesting story I can't get enough thank you so much for sharing his life ❤️🇨🇦
i'd stick to Disney if I were you.
I hiked to the Magic Bus in 2005. It was an amazing experience, and life changing for me. I was surprised that the bus had electricity and satellite TV.
I have no doubt the father was a tough SOB. But I still feel for he and his wife for their loss. I think this new book is going to cause a permanent divide between the parents and these daughters.
her...all the daughters have no link with the parents anymore.
I just see a rebellious young boy who didn’t know what was doing
I think he thought nature would be welcoming, but there’s a reason why humans left this kind of life, living and sustaining yourself in the middle of the nature is DIFFICULT
I’ve read his sister’s book and Krakauer’s book, multiple times. I’m so sorry about losing him but I admire what he did
If Carine can smile and be both happy and be proud of as well as take comfort in. Is knowing that Chris has inspired a generation to follow their dreams including me
She's smiling cuz every few years she brings story up to cash in..god bless her
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chris.
although I am sad for the family, I can't help but be mad at how I'll prepared Chris was. there are a lot of us who just wanted to up and do what he did,but after living and working in Alaska, you must be totally and completely outfitted and ready for surviving, especially of a winter. it is a beautiful, harsh and an unforgiving land. unfortunately he paid a high price, rest his soul.
ill prepared
what would you bring?
Respect for Mr. Chris.
Somehow i loose some fear of my daily life after hearing your story...
Alex was not forced to seek shelter into the magic bus. He was on a journey to experience the absolute of life.
Jon Krakauer already spoke about this in the book in chapter 12. Chris discovered the hidden family scandal on his first cross country trip before he graduated from Emory in Atlanta. All that did was put the icing on the cake that was already sweet enough. He was going to Alaska either way.
He never planned on dying.
Bro is really a life changer for me 🥊
he wasn't lost he couldn't get back across the river because of the winter snow melt
He wasn’t lost but he didn’t know where he was if that makes sense, there was an alternate route a few miles away that would’ve given him access across the river to the highway
He wasn't lost. He chose to retreat into the wild.
That’s pretty depressing to see how the bus is
I need to do what Chris did im 33 now and need this i can hunt trap and live outside i have family but no family of my own i love them but i need a adventure im to ready
There is a law... inflexible as cold steel--- "You're as sick as the secrets you keep".
Sounds like Carine wants healing. Bless you, girl.
I'm trying to understand, but when you been what he's been through you understand the stirring in his heart ❤️
My heart still breaks for this young man. He was very brave.
Jumping into the ocean with little knowledge of swimming and breathing is not brave.

“Live before you die” now I feel motivated to want to go to France Legion. If Uncle Sam didn't give me my dream so I find a way path. Now I feel wanted to quit my juvenile justice job and ghost my family. In the end, I die for Legion with a different name and not knowing my parent that I'm dead if I die there. He realised his father was a liar (NASA) and a devil worshipper and he wanted none of it. His father and step mother wanted him to just become like them, be selfish and exploit other so he did the opposite, he went into the wild so he wouldn't participate in that evil but was unprepared and ended up dying but at least he was at peace with God.
her book is a must read, the wild truth
His story is so sad😥 I don't know how his family deals with this❤
Chris' legacy lives on in Carine
Im researching for a report and came across this video and it is really heart warming.
Rest in Heaven, Chris (Alex)
I see that there is a variety of judgments on chris’s act, but from what I see chris lived 113 days, how many have we?
Chris broke into my grandfather's cabin and vandalized the rangers shack
Did rangers say it wasn’t him?
@@thomasalvarez6456 rangers refuse to say anything about anything period.
Did Christopher have a camera ? Curious as to where the photo's came from. Although a very sad story, the extremes that Christopher went to was as the Native Alaskan Soul's say Irresponsible and a Death Sentence brought upon by himself. "In the arm's of the Angel's Beautiful free spirit Christopher" Fly Free Now. Some Soul's wish they could just take off and do what Chris did, But think how hard it would be. Kindest thoughts to all, your families and Furbabies from Australia. 😢🕊🕯🥺
The fact that he was critised for being "unprepared" annoys me, I think Chris really wanted to LIVE, not survive, and in my opinion he did that
This!
He wanted to survive. He wanted food. In his last days it seems he may have regretted his decision.
but he didn’t live. He was starving and weak. y’all are as dumb as he was
@@exaggeratedswagger7485 He wasn't expecting that. He thought there'd be animals and he didn't want to be well prepared, he hated having money. Maybe it was a bit foolish but he lived as he wanted to and in that sense he is an inspiration. He made a mistake, anyone can. He should've compared the roots and berries more carefully and he would've lived, more animals would've come around for him to hunt. It's an inspiration as well as a lesson of being careful. It's not a fictional story, he had the flaws of a human being. In the end he is remembered for actually doing something daring that made him happy to experience...How many people will be remembered like him...
Still 113 days with little prep is impressive
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
"he was without a map and telling a soul. " He was free.
Imagine being heart broken for the better part of two years just to be one of “the sisters”
How many of us actually live😂 the way he said that was flawless
@@Cameron5043 yes I agree
"live a different life"" follows the footsteps of a dead man
Into the wild my favorite movie
He's hardly a folk hero. Just a naive young man that got in over his head out in the woods. More of a lesson on what not to be. Poor guy underestimated mother nature. Thought dropping off the grid in such an inhospitable environment would be easy. Hope nobody dies making a pilgrimage to see that school bus.
M he gave it a go and that’s more than most can say. Was he in over his head? Sure. But most people surf the internet and never try anything or seek to get anything.
Alaska is no place for idiots.
People have died trying to cross the river to get to the bus, not to mention many rescues.

Nice profile picture above
He touched alot of lives and it was a beautiful movie amazing photography very sad he made a mistake very human
Idk, this is his story according to those closer to him lol
I came upon his photo in u-tube when his sister Carine was giving a talk, and I immediately made that association of how similar he looked like to Tony Peluso the guitarist who played the solo of that Carpenter's song which also has a similar trait listening to the lyrics.
Hey "Dad," be a man and fess up to the error of your ways or forever remain the despicable human being you were and currently are. As for mum, you're in that minority group who stand by your man over your children. All these siblings can't be lying.
