  • I love landscape painting! Over the next few months I will be working on a series of landscape paintings so I thought it would be a great idea to do a practice piece!
I was sent a free box of Paul Rubens alkyd oil paints to try so this was an ideal opportunity to test them out.
If you'd like to try Paul Rubens alkyds here is a link: amzn.to/3RdsoNj
    Paints:
Paul Rubens alkyd oils - good value for money
    Palette:
Kitchen worktop protector (Glass Palette) - very cheap!
    Support:
    Newsprint paper - very cheap!
    Solvent:
    None
    Medium:
Linseed oil - not so cheap but you don't need to use much

Very nice result ... The green/yellow areas have a pastel look ... Also nice depth created with low perspective eye view

Thanks Nancy. The view is something I’d like to develop into an oil painting 😃

Alkyd....remembering I used it often. Anyway, I enjoyed watching the video. You know I like the way you paint and draw. Thanks again for sharing. I always get more motivated to go on with my drawings and paintings! Thanks for inspiring me! Greetings!

Thank you so much Jan 😀 I will stick to traditional oils but these were fun and cheap at the price for someone starting out. They sent me a free box to try and I will give them to my daughter to paint with

Beautiful painting. Looks like casein almost with the vibrancy. Not sure about the gritty texture though, I like my paints buttery smooth! Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you Keke. I didn’t like the gritty feel of the burnt sienna. The other colours seemed more buttery (except for the very liquidy lemon yellow)

Just a comment on possibly why it didn’t dry quickly. You added linseed oil as a medium, which slows down the drying time. If you’d used the alkyd neat it’d probably have dried much quicker. I used liquin as a medium with mine (I use the W&N Griffin Alkyds). Liquin improves the flow and speeds up the drying even more. You can end up with quite chalky paintings though that need to be oiled out as they seem to sink in way more than traditional oils. I’ve switched to mainly Michael Harding stuff which I’m loving, but still learning what I like most on my palette.

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are quite right Stu - liquin would have helped dry a lot quicker. I don't use liquin much at all unless I am in a hurry to finish a painting. Michael Harding paints are great

I'm just starting to paint. Is a bad oil paint? Should I return it and try some other brand? Please help me. And thank you in advance.

I read in the comments below that they are a strange combination of colours. Why they say so?
