What a charming and what an orderly Myanmar community is this China Town of Yangon! I admire the whole fish in the blackish culinary caging. In Thailand, I learned the charm of beach restaurants where whole fish platters are served with the head and eyeballs. These should be neatly severed from the body in case the diners are elderly or disabled with knives; But it is great to so share the spirit of the fish. In Thailand, I would not have survived without the help of the orderly Thai-Chinese community of whom there are many in Phetchaburi Province. My close friend and student teaching assistant Boat was proudly Thai-Chinese and affluent. The pharmacist who stabilized my small ailments caused by the jungle heat was Chinese and had been a pharmacist in San Francisco but was randomly ejected following 9/11 with countless other 'foreigners.' Senseless. In America, we have Thai Towns and China Towns; during my graduate studies at Portland State University, I ventured into Portland, Oregon's downtown proper out of the university park blocks(as I was wont to do more than people maybe thought) and I saw many sights, met many people, ate and drank much, and felt such spiritual rapture when I found the Great Lion of Portland's China Town; After visiting a Chinese tavern for a night cap, I took a taxi cab back to the university, and remembered this meaningful and spiritual China Town Lion and experience.
